I still can't believe it
Thu, Jan. 16th, 2003 15:16I managed to delete a story yesterday evening. I searched in my computer for hours for a backup, but there wasn't. I had saved it on a diskette thingie, but it malfunctioned or was reformated or something, because it doesn't want to work, not on my computer, nor on my brother's computer.
It was an old story... well, not a story. A myriad of short stories about the G-boys in a fantasy setting. One of my first gundam stories. I know it was cliche but I liked my take on it. I hadn't worked on it for months, but yesterday I found it again, and I read some of the stories, and I toyed with the idea of writing on it again. I thought today I would read the others and try to imagine some more of the story.
And now it's gone.
I don't even feel sad, really. There's just this numb place in my inner landscape where the story used to be. It's as if knowing that the hard copy was deleted suddenly makes me aware that I would have had to read the fics again to remember right the details and the way I worded my sentences and stuff. Now I know I can't revive my memory with that, and that makes my memory of it incomplete, somehow... I'm not sure I'm making any sense.
And it was a french story, so no, I'm pretty sure no one will have gotten a sneak preview. I just hope some of my french friends still have it somewhere, but the last time I sent it to someone was months ago. I really, really hope.
I don't think I'll rewrite that story if no one can send it back to me.
