OMIGOD. (naruto anime)
Thu, Jan. 26th, 2006 16:19Okay so in my humble opinion, episode 168 sucked. It was a pure crack one-shot with the Ichiraku father and daughter. Also the art wasn't that great, and even seriously fugly in places. If you like random crack, you'll probably laugh at it; it seriously bored me. (at least naruto wasn't portrayed as the stupidest moron on earth. hn.)

But episode 169.
Oh my god episode 169.
IT FEELS CANON. I don't know exactly why -- and there are still some slight problems, but hey -- even the canon eps had these problems at some points. There are some funny WTF moment... and there are some moment that really make me go "oh wow, ANGST." Usually when a filler character has some angst, I'm all "yeah, yeah, that was sad" but I couldn't be really pulled in, because it felt like plot devices.
But so far, the main character angsting about her past is Anko.
Yeah, we're getting an Anko arc. And so far (reserving judgment) her flashbacks seem like they could actually be canon. Like Kishimoto had that backstory thought up and never found a place to mention it in the manga because the focus shifted away from her, so we're getting it in the fillers. AS IT SHOULD BE, DAMN IT. I don't care about random new characters, why don't we have an "how Asuma and Kurenai met" arc, or stuff about other Hyuugas or Inuzukas -- how did Kuromaru lose his ear and eye? Where is Kiba's father? More development about Genma, Hagane and Kotetsu, stuff like that. ;_; (...there better be a Kakashi Gaiden.)
Anyway back to my point. The flashbacks so far feel like they fit.
Also, we get to see Shino and Ino.
Also -- the mood isn't wavering between happy-random-crack and WangstyMcWangst. It has its funny Naruto moments (nothing that feels like bashing!!), and it has its Anko flashbacks -- and they're Not Fun. Not fun at all. ;_;

Anyway... The mood. I FEEL THE NARUTO MOOD AGAIN.
