NaNo... -__-;;

NaNoWriMo starts on Monday and I still don't know what story I want to poke at, or even if I really want to do it this year.

Anyway I don't have a new Ofic to prod, so it would either be more Mermaids in Space (... sorry, Mermaids... IN SPACE!!) or more Black Ops Werewolves.

Or maybe Teamwork. I dunno, it's all asleepy right now. *prods it with a stick*

I'm not feeling it. T__T The werewolves are love but I don't have a real plot. The mermaids have a plot but I don't have the love. Well, yes, i love them but. The werewolves don't have any interesting characters on other teams and local werepeople to interact with! The mermaids don't have any shiny mermaid and two-tail people to interact with! There's plot hooks enough, but for me who loves nothing more than character interaction, that makes things FLAAAT. It's like, okay, yay, my car has a motor, now it can roll forward without needing a slope and gravity to gang up on it. Neat. Now could I have some seats and a radio please? Also a wheel, a wheel would be nice. Cause otherwise I'm taking the bus.

*ponders Tyr/Liadan crossover interaction*

Also there's Real Life things coming up this month and I'm not sure how much I'll feel like writing. (it's nothing bad, job search stuff. I suppose everyone must go through that at some point. I'm just horrible at dealing with that kind of stress.) Or perhaps having something I must write would be a great distraction! No friggin clue.

As for Teamwork, I seriously doubt that it'll take me 50,000 words to get to the end of TW3. Though I suppose it would help if I could decide if the marriage is part of TW3 or its separate sequelthing! though at this point the sequels are all such an interconnected mess I suspect it's all mostly academic. Okay, no, TW 3 was the tournament, tournament'll be over by then, therefore since TW 4 is something else! that means Teamwork:Marriage is an interlude instead! A hugeass interlude. In several parts. Plus outsider POV sidefics. ahaha o self wat. Okay, not an interlude. TW3.5? I mean, i've got the Suna trip down as TW2.5 already. ...Someone put me out of my misery. DX

Alas, I have no way to help you. Unless you want to bounce ideas off me, then I can be marginally more helpful than your average wall...

(To be perfectly frank, right now I like the werewolves better than the mermaids. I have no idea why -- maybe it's that I connect better with the characters in werewolves? Or maybe I'm just not in the mood for something as unfamiliar as mermaid's world? Yeah, I dunno. .__.)

As for putting you out of your misery, I'll be very happy to! Just as soon as you finish all the fics you have started.

*evil laughter*

Well, the creators of NaNo originally started it as a way to strong-arm creativity/inspiration out into the open. It might be good for you to try and force yourself to start writing and exploring an aspect of the story just to see if you stumble across anything that can be used as a plot. I mean hell, plot is mostly conflicts between characters anyway. It may start out totally character driven, and explode into something else completely when you least expect it to. :D

NaNo is just a really long, really terrifying leap of faith; you're not gonna get anywhere if you don't jump.

[identity profile] mika-kun.livejournal.com 2010-10-28 07:28 pm (UTC)(link)
My vote's for the werewolves, but really the whole point of NaNo is to force yourself to write even if you don't know what's going on, so picking anything should be fine as long as you stick with it.

It sounds like you're not really looking forward to NaNo, in which case, don't push yourself to do something you won't enjoy. It's always sounded to me like a month set aside to give impetus to people who keep finding excuses not to write the rest of the year. You're creative all the time, so no worries there.

I'm very fond of the mermaids, but I can see where you've sort of written yourself into a corner, and all the plot bits waiting in the wings are getting in the way of character development and non-scripted interaction (I guess? Maybe it's just my interpretation). Getting rid of particularly strangly elements might help, or just letting it sit for a while and coming back to it later with fresh eyes, so you can see what's going on when you're not so involved. (Actually, that applies to any story.)

Basically, do whatever you want to do. If you want to write, write. If you don't want to, don't. But don't feel you have to commit to anything, just because it's November.

"TMW 5" you said?? :DDD So excited omg! (and scared, a little.) WEEEHHH~! I want to read about the marriage! I'm not enouraging you to write teamwork for Nano though. It's much better for quality when you are truly inspired instead of forced to write. >__>
(About naming the saga fics, I woudnt't mind 3.5 but you can also rename TMW III to IV, to create space.)
Werewolves and mermaids are nice too....and OC....Argh, I really don't know how to advise here. *useless*

I'll try to give my team7 AU story a sequel. They haven't even /kissed/ Sakura yet in 50K of space, stupid boys. U___U;

So my first reaction is just that I want to give you a hug. I mean, not just a hug but a HUG! Like, grab on to you and pet you until you stop struggling and have no choice but to melt into a puddle and just accept the hugging as the most important thing you have to worry about in all the world. Your only job would be to breathe.

But since I can't actually harass you in such a fashion, I suppose I'll have to be content with throwing a few words your way in the shape of opinion. So, between mermaids, wolves and shinobi mating customs-

-Sorry, totally just lost train of thought imagining baby Mer!Sasuke swimming after his big brother and I had a squee.-

-I think I'm most partial to wolves. Maybe you could try fracturing a fairytale or two for plot elements? Classic is classic for a reason after all and nobody says they have to be recognizable when you're done with them. Just stay away from tvtropes, lest you lose your will to live.

On the other hand, I have a terrible bias against all of them when Sephiroth is smirking down at me. So you see, I'm really no help at all. I shake a stick of dynamite at your misery though. A little kaboom goes a long way. u.u

She's going to hate you forever for that mental image, Charcoalcat. But I agree, it is *SQUEEE!!*

I feel for you. I wouldn't mind having bunnies thrown at me either, so equip them to some darts and send some my way, if you want. Who knows, maybe inspiring you will inspire me. I'd sign up for NaNoWriMo myself, but I tend to have these huge blank spots in the middle of all my fics that I have no idea how to fill. I'll get to the middle of a scene and come to a screeching halt 'cause I've got no clue how to finish it. Or the way I'd planned it comes out sounding stiff and dull. Whatever. It's irritating.

right now I'm trying to work out some kinks in a OP fic I want to write, but it's making strange faces at me. *cries*.

(and yes, I shamelessly borrowed the pic, but I thought it would rather appropriate for your situation.)

[identity profile] kohikari.livejournal.com 2010-10-28 09:35 pm (UTC)(link)
Why don't you dedicate this month to coming up with ideas for stories (both new ones and ones already in progress) and thinking about your various fandoms/worlds and getting RL things done? We could call it "National Novel Preparation Month" instead. NaNoPreMo? :D

(After all, if you give yourself time to get important RL things done and stew over your stories a bit, you'll be more ready to devote time to writing once things have straightened themselves out. Give yourself a writing break and come back twice as strong! ...Or something.)

[identity profile] andartha.livejournal.com 2010-10-28 09:35 pm (UTC)(link)
Hmmm...if you can, grab a hold of Avatar: The Last Aibender cartoon series (NOT the movie). Now there's a shiny new story with lots of potential for mayhem and fic-writing ^_~

Sorry, Lurker that found this from your awesome, awesome art on Deviantart (I lurk on Jo's livejournal as well).

You mentioned wanting character's to ping off of your werewolves...

*Coughs and looks over at her basket full of characters all bickering/fighting/molesting each other* Uh... feel free to look through, if you want. ADRIAN, NEVAN, STOP MOLESTING THE OTHERS, IT JUST MAKES THEM HIT BACK HARDER! AND KIT, STOP TRYING TO SET THE OTHERS ON FIRE TO GET THEM TO LEAVE YOU ALONE!

... Sorry, they're a little strange.

;_; I... I have nothing. I am useless. I am bereft of usefulness.

But, like. If you're not going to enjoy it, there's no reason to force yourself! Still, maybe once Nano starts and you begin, it'll begin to flow better? Sometimes when you feel the pressure, the ideas come a lot easier? :D

I HAVE FAITH IN YOU. You are amazing.

Also, I have an essay due in three hours. Brb researching for sources so I can begin writing it. >.>;;;

Sorry that you're not really feeling it this year.

I say instead of focusing on one story, you can just try for 50,000 words total, if you think you can be inspired/have the time to write. That way you can bounce around between your big fics and short random ones or whatever, and have more freedom rather than feeling tied down. *shrugs* I dunno.

Best wishes with job searching, I know that can be a pain! I hope you find something great.

[identity profile] midnigh-unicorn.livejournal.com 2010-10-29 03:18 am (UTC)(link)
Write about the stress of being an unemployed writer with hair pulling plot frustration, a love of characterization and the perhaps unrealized ability to make people laugh with natural wit?

I'll split my NaNo love between you and Saro since I'm not doing it 8D

[identity profile] suzukiblu.livejournal.com 2010-10-29 05:10 am (UTC)(link)
Awww, I was hoping you were going to do it. >: Asukaaa, don't you want to suffer with the rest of us? (read: me, me, doomed little me?) I AM WILLING TO BRIBE YOU. VERY WILLING.

But in all seriousness, I love your origific and I yearn for the day you finish one. The mermaids are probably my favorite, for all the prettypretty worldbuilding (and, I admit, I so ship the threeway), but the werewolves are a really close second for their character interaction, and both concepts are just win in my book.

If you're really uninspired, you should try working on your villains. I find this solves most of my disinterest problems when I get bogged down with plot, and usually totally rejuvenates my love for the good guys.

[identity profile] lisa-telramor.livejournal.com 2010-10-29 06:04 pm (UTC)(link)
I personally find villains one of the best parts of writing. I like the good characters naturally, but who would they be without the villains? Usually they'd be leading normal, boring little lives. Villains are the spice to fictional reality. :) Usually. I admit that some villains creep me out. Good luck with NaNo. I will be with you in the hell that is of our own creation.

[identity profile] phoenix-melody.livejournal.com 2010-10-29 05:22 am (UTC)(link)
If, by some miracle, I don't happen to be braindead from work, I would be willing to have ideas thrown at me! Even though I don't think I'm very helpful. >.>;

I've never been able to do NaNoWriMo, though I've tried many modified (read: easier) versions for the last six years or so. I was idly thinking about making another attempt this year, but between work and the realization that one of my originals is probably not salvageable at this point, I don't think it's going to happen. ._.

[identity profile] lisa-telramor.livejournal.com 2010-10-29 06:01 pm (UTC)(link)
Good luck with that. I feel crazy for deciding to do NaNo in the middle of the busiest time of my semester, but eh, I'm going to try. Try being the operative word.
I guess writing or not all comes down to what you feel you could handle, and what ideas are floating around. If you feel you could get 50,000 words out in a month regardless of external pressures, go for it. If you don't think your idea could hold up to it, don't. As far as whether it's interesting or not...does it matter? I start out writing things for myself. If you enjoy it, that is truly all that matters. If later you want to share it, you can always edit, ne?
Good luck with all the RL and plotbunny pressures. And I hope things work out regardless of what you choose to do. ^_^

(Anonymous) 2010-10-30 12:13 am (UTC)(link)
poor Asuka. *hugs*
maybe for NaNo you could put a bunch of different Ideas into hats, like a hat for setting, charas, etc. and write a random story?
IDK, I fail.

[identity profile] flourite-roses.livejournal.com 2010-10-30 02:03 pm (UTC)(link)
TW3.5! Or how about TW3.1, TW3.2, TW3.3, etc for all the random parts lol? Challenge yourself, write everything under ten short chapters!

You can technically write for Teamwork for NaNoWriMo and file the wedding/outside fics/TW3.5 under Teamwork too? It's kinda one huge storyline, afterall.

Job searches suck. D: I get antsy when I go for interviews, all the way until I get a reply. Good luck!!

Ah I feel your pain! I got suckered in to signing up despite being a notoriously slow writer. I'm figuring anything can help so I'll just toss this out there:

I see that you are enjoying Detective Conan, so why not have incidents in the werewolves areas that need to be investigated? and you can write in short instalments? or even mission based? slipping character development in along the way?

possible plot elements could be people going missing, a group of -not-elves spotted in a particular area, lol you could even have them checking out things that turn out to be nothing more than deer in the woods and that jazz. after all, not every tip yields expected results!

I hope that helped. Good luck!!!!
