recycled Naruto rant that makes me come off like an elitist, controlling bitch.

I don't begrudge people the right to enjoy fics using a looser sense of canon, they can be very fun as well; I just get a bit twitchy when that fanon is so accepted that it becomes strange to actually use stuff that's not totally raping canon. Also, I desperately needed something to rant about, so here. Whatever.

oh god i can't read NaruSasu fics anymore, I just can't find any new fics that don't make me barf. noooo. I don't want to lose all enjoyment of that pairing, damn it, they're the closest thing I've ever had to an OTP. T_T /whine

Yes, there's a good chunk of writers who need to know this, for all it seems like common sense if you've watched more than 3 episodes of the anime.

That said...

The folks who are replying saying that you shouldn't read any fic besides rec'd fic? That if you venture into the big scary world of fanfiction.net, you'll be immediately mugged and rolled by a couple thousand Doe-Eyed!Naruto or Cutter!Naruto fics? I don't think it's all that bad. Maybe it's just my good fortune, but I read Naruto fic pretty regularly, and I've yet to come across a Cutter!Naruto. Maybe I'm just lucky (and if that's it, thank god).

I dunno... maybe it's just me, but THAT attitude comes off as elitist.

Btw Asuka - I remember how you were saying you wanting Anonymous folk to have a name so ya could pick em apart, but damned if I can figure how to do that, since I dont have an LJ.

I've had the good luck of finding some great writers at ffnet (Maldoror, edenfalling and Rayemars come to mind), so actually I kind of like the site. But more often than not I have to go through favorites of favorites lists to find anything readable, and even those are starting to dry out. Maybe I'm too difficult, but I'd rather have stuff recced to me than have to dig through the "just in" naruto section. ~__~;

It's not elitist so much as clique-ish, though, because it limits the occasions of finding new and interesting stuff outside of a closed circle of writers. And in the long run, that's bad. But as for the fae-like!uke! and cutter!naruto, if I see one more of these i'll scream. I tried today, selected Naruto and Sasuke as characters to search for, and there wasn't anything readable on the first four pages that I hadn't already read before. so. =_=;

XD you don't HAVE to have a name. You could sign XXX, or J, or &+@ or whatever. Or you can just not sign at all, it's not absolutely necessary. I just like being able to recognize people. "Oh, yeah, her! she commented on this fic, and that rant and blahblah." But if you want to stay entirely anonymous, then it's alright too. So long as no one abuses the anonymous status, in which case i'll probably be forced to take it away... but so far everyone's been very nice about it. ^^

I've been in the mood to write some NaruSasu, if you wanted a particular kind of fic. It wouldn't be very long, and it might end up with about six pages of arguing (once Naruto gets started, Sasuke feels he has to finish it, and Naruto never lets him have the last word, and the next thing I know I've got dialogue consisting of nothing but "BASTARD!" "IDIOT!" "BASTARD BASTARD BASTARD!" "WASTE OF OXYGEN!" "BASTARD~!"), but it would be non-angsty and weeping uke-free! :D

(It's been done before, but I can't remember if I'd drawn a chibicomic of it or not. XD;; And I swear I can draw better breasts than that, under normal circumstances. Not sure exactly what counts as a normal circumstance, but I can!)

That was genius. All those things you wrote about are some of the many reasons I stopped looking for fics to read. And it's not only Naruto and Sasuke who get horribly punished. Kakashi and Jirayia get boxed in as well. Come on people, these characters are multi dimensional, not one sided perverts/molesters.

XD cerulean is very common in more "poetic" stories. hell, even some published authors use it.

I have to admit, I have an odd tendency to be drawn to 'reversed' pairings - NaruSasu rather than SasuNaru, SoraRiku rather than RikuSora (and DAMN is it hard to find that one ;_;) - just because there are slightly better odds of the characters being IC. And threesomes are a growing attraction with me. "NO! You CAN'T just drop Sakura/Kairi (or other character of your choice)! If you try, the other two will SMITE you! And she'd help!"

And... I confess, I haven't even TRIED looking at the Naruto FF.Net section. I just follow the favorites trail. :-P But I don't think FF.Net is all bad - you just need to develop a certain mental filtering system. "'True lo'... next. 'A mysterious girl'... next. 'OMG'... psh, NEXT. 'Years have passed since Sasuke vanished from Orochimaru's stronghold, but Naruto and Sakura aren't giving up yet!' Hmmm. Okay, I'm game... *click*"

As for Sasuke... I've come to the conclusion that I have a very odd interpretation of what's probably going to happen with him, so I'll just bow out of that side of the argument. And wait to see what Kishimoto has to say. :-P Or, maybe, one of these days I'll post that rant I was talking about... Heh. Naruto. Cute. Yeah, right. He's bratty and brash and loud and... ARGH. Kishimoto usually deliberately draws his characters as NOT being cute - that was actually one of the major character points about Sakura!

Even though you claim that you don't have the best handle on Naruto, I think this clearly says otherwise ^^ Honestly, that's the best dissection of Naruto's character I've ever read. And your bits of humor in there were lovely as well, haha. Thank you for reminding me of my utter love for the kid (in addition to his most previous "I won't give up on Sasuke" rant in the latest manga chapter, haha).

And I haven't found any good NaruSasu fics in such a loooong time ;__; You know what this means right? You're just going to have to write one b/c only you can meet your standards, hehehe. Ok, I'm just kidding because I know you've got a lot on your plate already, but...it was worth a shot, haha.

The good ones I've found are currently on hiatus or something, haha. Like

maldoror_gw's ANBU, hehe. I adore her GaaraLee but still...like you say, NaruSasu is my OTP.

And I find the best way to find quality fics is to read those recommended by good authors. After all, a good writer knows good writing. Sometimes if I'm really bored I go browsing the fics at aff.net or ff.net and I just want to cry at what NaruSasu has become in the fandom. But we should take a hint from Naruto and not give up! XD

Oops, long reply. Sorry! *hug* Keep the NaruSasu, Asuka! No one writes them the way you do and it'd be a blow to the fandom if you ever left ^___^

Maybe it's just me. But usually when I'm reading fic, I don't mind a little real life not put into it. Especially when it comes to the naruto world.

I mean, I don't midn a lot of it, but certain things like disease (whether sex based or not), and the such just leave me in a "dude, seriously, I wanted to get away from real life with reading this" state of mind.

But htat might be because the ones that do try to use real life issues in their fic tend to over dramatize it, and then it leaves me feelign un confortable...
