recycled Naruto rant that makes me come off like an elitist, controlling bitch.

I don't begrudge people the right to enjoy fics using a looser sense of canon, they can be very fun as well; I just get a bit twitchy when that fanon is so accepted that it becomes strange to actually use stuff that's not totally raping canon. Also, I desperately needed something to rant about, so here. Whatever.

oh god i can't read NaruSasu fics anymore, I just can't find any new fics that don't make me barf. noooo. I don't want to lose all enjoyment of that pairing, damn it, they're the closest thing I've ever had to an OTP. T_T /whine

Yes, there's a good chunk of writers who need to know this, for all it seems like common sense if you've watched more than 3 episodes of the anime.

That said...

The folks who are replying saying that you shouldn't read any fic besides rec'd fic? That if you venture into the big scary world of fanfiction.net, you'll be immediately mugged and rolled by a couple thousand Doe-Eyed!Naruto or Cutter!Naruto fics? I don't think it's all that bad. Maybe it's just my good fortune, but I read Naruto fic pretty regularly, and I've yet to come across a Cutter!Naruto. Maybe I'm just lucky (and if that's it, thank god).

I dunno... maybe it's just me, but THAT attitude comes off as elitist.

I've had the good luck of finding some great writers at ffnet (Maldoror, edenfalling and Rayemars come to mind), so actually I kind of like the site. But more often than not I have to go through favorites of favorites lists to find anything readable, and even those are starting to dry out. Maybe I'm too difficult, but I'd rather have stuff recced to me than have to dig through the "just in" naruto section. ~__~;

It's not elitist so much as clique-ish, though, because it limits the occasions of finding new and interesting stuff outside of a closed circle of writers. And in the long run, that's bad. But as for the fae-like!uke! and cutter!naruto, if I see one more of these i'll scream. I tried today, selected Naruto and Sasuke as characters to search for, and there wasn't anything readable on the first four pages that I hadn't already read before. so. =_=;


XD you don't HAVE to have a name. You could sign XXX, or J, or &+@ or whatever. Or you can just not sign at all, it's not absolutely necessary. I just like being able to recognize people. "Oh, yeah, her! she commented on this fic, and that rant and blahblah." But if you want to stay entirely anonymous, then it's alright too. So long as no one abuses the anonymous status, in which case i'll probably be forced to take it away... but so far everyone's been very nice about it. ^^
