-You take a fic or ficlet or multipart I've written, and choose whether you want a prequel or a sequel, and/or which character you want to concentrate on (not necessary but always appreciated) and/or a timeframe (i might tell you nothing interesting happens at that point, alas) and/or some aspect of the plot you were curious about idk etc.
-They shall be snippets or ficlets or otherwise roughly comment-sized, which means there's an even chance I'll come out of this post with yet another sprawling, all-devouring 'verse on my hands.
-I make no promise to actually write your prompt. I'll give it a fair try, is all I can offer.
-You can post up to five prompts. I might write one, I might write all five, I might write none.

This time on top of prequels and sequels you're also free to choose a scene and ask for a different POV on it in the same timeframe, or ask what Other Character was doing at the time. (I reserve the right to reject the prompt if the answer is "nothing that interesting.")

already writing a sequel that starts the morning after (no space for one in the middle) and I don't know where it ends, so I'm jumping ahead a bit.

"So Fire Lord Zuko, huh."

"Looks like," Zuko replied tiredly. He was supposed to have guards, apparently, but things were still chaotic enough in the palace that he wasn't surprised no one had noticed the Earth peasant perched on his window.

Hell, Jet being who he was, Zuko was confident he'd manage even after they fixed things. He chuckled to himself.

"What's funny?"

"Want to be in charge of my palace guards?" he threw over his shoulder, turning to look at Jet's face. Indeed, his expression was worth it; caught flatfooted between astonishment, cat-stepped-on offense, and suspicion.

"You're joking, aren't you."

"Yeah." Zuko's shoulders slumped; he turned away again. "Though it'd be... I wouldn't mind that." But it wasn't happening.

"Bodyguard you can talk to, huh? You have that friend with the crazy weaponry." Jet said crazy like one might say awe-inspiring or beautiful. Zuko wouldn't say he and Mai had hit it off, but they certainly seemed to approve of the little they'd seen of each other, which was terrifying enough.

"Did I mention she's my ex-girlfriend? Because... You know. That doesn't make things awkward or anything."

He expected a snort or a 'so what', he really did. Even if Jet had started to care even a little bit -- and it was always hard to tell with him -- he'd know as Zuko did that it wasn't happening, that whatever there was between the two of them. The three of them.

Instead Zuko got silence.

He didn't want to look at Jet's face. It'd hurt less that way. So when the voice came next from two steps behind his left shoulder, he jumped.

"...Yeah, that...Hrrn."

Jet didn't look angry or irritated or dismissive, didn't look mocking. He looked... thoughtful? Frowning a bit.

"...Jet?"

Abrupt, Jet shook his head, met Zuko's eyes with a frown still on his face. "Katara's been on my case for not sharing. So. Here I am, sharing. I don't like it much that your ex's gonna be around. Does she want to get back together?"

Zuko shrugged helplessly. "I have no idea. We -- we haven't talked. Beside, I..."

"You've got a girlfriend already."

He didn't even have to think before he kicked out, though he didn't even make contact with Jet's ankle; the asshole dodged. "Don't be a jerk, that's not all I have." Was it?

"Isn't it?"

"... You jerk."

"My middle name," Jet replied with a smirk. It faded fast, though. "You know why I'm here."

"Yeah." Zuko swallowed. His throat was tight. "I won't have you tomorrow."

"... Yeah." They stared at each other for a second or three. Jet gave a quick, twitchy shrug, like he didn't care, though his jaw was clenched tight, his shoulders up defensively, not loose and ready at all. It wasn't a 'sorry', but it was a 'I'm taking it kind of hard too'. "Got no place in a Fire palace for an Earth nobody. I'd fight at your side, but I won't give my blade to the Fire Lord. And what else can I be? Laundry boy? Pet peasant, to amuse the court with? Your mud-blooded consort? Please."

It was kind of funny, that this was the first time Jet had ever actually used a word to refer to the two of them as...something. He'd call Katara his lover, his girlfriend; Zuko he called 'that asshole Firebender I'm stuck with' or maybe 'the hissy one with the nice ass'.

"So." The grin Jet quirked him next was strange. "Wanna join the Freedom Fighters?"

Zuko chuckled soundlessly. Anything louder would hurt. "Maybe another day. Wanna stay the night?"

"See, if I were cruel, I'd say 'maybe another day', but you're a hot piece of ass and I really don't mind tapping that. The soul of tenderness and generosity, that's me."

Zuko didn't tell him Katara had come by, earlier, with the same speech or almost. Peasant Tribeswoman, she missed the ice, she missed her father, she believed in what Aang was doing and they both agreed he needed someone to travel with, hated court politics, made her feel small and choked-up and surrounded by toad-vipers. He just smiled the same strange smile right back and held out his hand.

They never did make it to the huge imperial bed with all the embroidered draperies. The carpet was so thick it made no difference.

Oh oh oh this hurts in all the right ways. You should write Avatar fic more often.
