His three most beautiful birthday presents:

-Eikichi makes him a grandfather of a litter of seven kittens. The neighbor cat's owner is a little shrill about it; before he knows it, he ends up with the mother too. He spends the next half year trying to find homes for them that fit his standards, before deciding that none will ever do; besides, his sister has gotten bored of complaining about his horde of felines by now.

-A leather jacket -- he doesn't even want to know for how long his gang had to save for them to pool enough resources for it. He would leave it on the back of his chair at home and never risk it in a fight, except that he's pretty sure that's a lot like having a fast car and never taking it out of the garage. They'd be insulted. The jacket survives a surprising number of years, and when it dies, it is through shielding him from a possibly lethal burn, and he mourns it until his friends thump him for it.
