Genkai : forty hours of super-intense training. When he asks what the secret technique it gets him is like, she snorts and replies there isn't one; it just frees up some time for her to enjoy a vacation.

Atsuko : a box of condoms, the run of the apartment, and a long list of things he better not try on Keiko if he wants to keep his junk in one piece.

-getting home to find Iruka and Anko glaring at each other as their surprise is spoiled. Kakashi is a man of opportunities, though, and he's not letting this one pass him by. (in the morning, his kids are traumatized, but that will teach them not to come hound him in his house for bills left unpaid.)

His second present is the accidental fire Zack certainly did not start in the labs, reporting his next examination for at least two weeks. His third present is freedom, in the form of a wig and colored contacts, which are totally ridiculous, silly, and demeaning, and a walk in the streets alongside people who only watch him out of attraction.

There's a fourth present in the form of a moustache that would, he's sure, remove even that, but there are limits to the blackmail materials he's willing to hand over to Zack Fair.

Heero's first favorite present is Duo's decision. "Today will be your birthday." Now there is a day in the year where his existence is celebrated. It's silly and pretty useless, but it's for him, and he discovers he likes the jolt of surprise he feels, every time it comes around again.

Heero's second favorite present is the dog who gives himself by following him home one day.

Heero's third favorite, but really the first, is the tenth anniversary of total peace, when he realizes this time around it really is going to stay. And every day afterwards.

Kurama gets two birthdays a year. His stepfather and other-Shuichi celebrate one, with nice new clothes, and aftershave (Stepfather is hopeful he'll ever get to need it; Shuichi is hopeful he'll get to steal it.) His friends celebrate the other, with wild fights and long runs in the forest, and meals of rice and inarizushi.

It takes him a long time to realize that his mother celebrates both, and the same way; a good meal, incense, and a prayer of thanks to the world for giving him to her.

Miriallia's first camera is small, sturdy and without many settings; her father didn't trust her with more. She's ten; she finds stalking her friends fun for a week or two, and then she forgets about it.

Miriallia's second camera is used for longer; she has Tolle, and she wants to make sure to keep him forever.

Miriallia's third camera is Dearka's present. This time, she uses the camera to catch the world, to share it and bare its truth, and she knows she will never put it down again.

Lacus already has everything she wants. Everything. The world is too kind to her. So for her birthday, she initiates a new tradition.

To her soulmate, her Kira-sama, she offers her love and devotion, and some new clothes, and classes at the nearest university so that he may finish his degree.

To her ex-fiance, her Athrun, she offers yet more love, and forgiveness, and a place to call home if he ever needs it. And she sings to Nicol's piano.

To Cagalli, the other half of her own other halves, she offers a place in her heart, so that she may be a sister to Lacus like she is a sister for Kira -- and if she wants it, a lover for Lacus like she is a lover for Athrun.

Neither of the boys mind, though they do blush a lot.
