I have such poor impulse control. But nevermind. It's suzukiblu/white_knuckle's fault. There I was, re-reading her old memes, and that one jumped at me and smacked me in the face.

Give me a pairing (or threesome if you insist) and a prompt (mood, place, object, etcetera). I'll write you something about their kid(s).

Fandoms: Naruto, GW, FF7, DBZ. Possible future kids in existing fic-verses allowed, except for Teamwork's first two Team 7 kids. 'cause, well, spoiler. No real objection to writing several times about the same kid either, so long as my imagination doesn't stall on it.

caveats:
-I make no promise to actually write them, though I do promise I'll try. My inspiration is a fickle, contrary thing in the first place and when I try to force it I get writer's block instead.
-I really suck at poetic/abstract prompts.
-If you give me a slash pairing but don't want/like mpreg, say so. It's not my default kid-giving choice, but still one of them.

"It's time to sleep!"

Those brats were jumping on the bed again. She scowled and went to their door and knocked, TAKTAKTAK.

"Hey! It's late. Stop it. I'm tired of having to tell the neighbors I'm sorry."

All movement ceased. A sheepish "Um, sorry?" rose from the bedroom. She huffed, blowing long blond bangs away from her nose. She didn't believe him one minute.

"Anyway, there's school tomorrow early, so cut it out, okay?"

The door cracked open. A blonde head popped out, still laughing.

Then a hand ruffled her hair. "We'll be here in a minute to say goodnight, Inoe-chan. Did you wash your teeth and everything?"

"Did YOU wash your teeth and everything?" Inoe countered, pushing her glasses up her nose so she could glower through them. "No? I thought not."

Grumbling under her breath, Inoe stomped back up the corridor. God, her parents were so irresponsible. She couldn't wait to graduate out of the Academy and into a team, so she could be around actually mature people.

Heero/Duo - Nightmares

The first scream had him rolling off his bed, a knife in hand. Disoriented, he scanned the dark room. No one here but him.

The bed was empty. Huh.

A second scream, and he was at the door, even before he recognized the voice. He crossed the corridor in three long steps, knife still in hand. He missed his guns. Guns weren't allowed out of the safe anymore, not since --

"Shh, shh, just a bad dream."

Heero came to a stop in the open doorway, shifting his hand and angling his wrist so his body would hide the blade. Duo was already there, sitting on the edge of the mattress, a hand covering a tiny forehead.

For a second it felt like he was looking at a stranger. Two strangers, in fact, but even when Duo looked up and quirked an eyebrow at him, familiar, the child stayed a newcomer, an acquaintance, someone he didn't really know.

It's only been two weeks, he told himself, and waited for instructions.

"Come in, Heero," Duo said. The child was crawling in his lap, mouth twisted and eyes full of tears.

Heero slipped the knife in the waistband of his boxers, over his hip, and walked in, sat on the edge of the mattress when Duo pointed at it with his chin.

"How did you know?" he asked.

Duo shrugged, rubbing his hand in circles on the child's back. "Didn't. Just guessed."

The child was babbling about wolves and bears and red and being eaten. It wasn't very coherent. Heero sat in silence and waited until the sobs died down.

"Anything I can do?"

Duo flicked him a smile in the dark. "Yeah. Here."

The child was tense all over again on his lap, curled up in himself and trembling. Heero's arms came up to keep him from rolling off his thighs instinctively, but from there on -- he glared at Duo, who only smirked at him and patted both their heads.

"I'm going to make hot chocolate. Be right back, okay?"

He was gone before Heero could protest. His hot chocolate wasn't great, he'd been teased often enough to know that, but still better than his post-nightmares comforting skills. He patted the child's back slowly, relaxing a little when the child cautiously leaned against him.

He didn't expect being hugged, suddenly, little fingers clinging in his t-shirt -- finding the butt of the knife.

"what's that?"

Heero knew the counsellor would howl knowing he'd had a weapon in the same room as a child. But that sudden glint of expectant tension, that interest edging past the nightmare's leftover fear... He didn't want to lie. He pulled out the blade, showed it, held securely out of reach.

"is it to kill the monsters?"

Monsters, like those who had killed his parents, hiding behind human faces. He was supposed to tell the child he was just dreaming, monsters didn't exist, he was safe because nothing bad in the world existed. Just his imagination.

Heero didn't kill anymore, hadn't since the war, had never wanted to kill again. He looked down at the child -- little head against his chest, body leaning into his own with growing trust, and...

"... Yeah. It is."

You're safe here, he thought, because I will not lie to you, the monsters do exist, but they'll never get through me.

When Duo came back, Ben was asleep again. They put him back in bed and drank hot chocolate as Heero looked for words to explain his new choice, but Duo didn't need words to get it, because he'd been there and waiting for Heero to catch up for two weeks already.

"Crowded as it is, it is extremely unlikely that there's somewhere a toddler can hide that we absolutely can't see," said Udon. "We'll just need to ask people to move their luggage a little." He was trying to reassure himself, Moegi could see.

They'd crossed the whole bus twice already. Parting the sea was easier than parting squished-together people, who grumbled every time they had to shift their bags or lean to the side to let someone through, and she didn't count the number of feet she'd trod on. Of course no adult person could really see what was going on at knee-height in that press, so for all they knew Sobami-chan was hiding somewhere under a seat.

"Alright," Moegi decided, drawing herself up. "Udon, search pattern seven!"

It was the one they'd perfected as genins. The one for small, quick target that tended to draw blood when caught.

In the end, they found Sobami exactly where they would have found Tora. On the roof, watching pigeons fly by.

Sephiroth/Zack, hair

He could understand the reasoning. Sephiroth was Sephiroth, and no army needed ten perfectly identical genius Generals at its head, or even five or three. For one thing they'd all have the same blind spots, the same fighting patterns. (not that it mattered immensely when he always won anyway, but, just in case. It was better to have variety.) For another no dragon needed five independently thinking heads; there was a reason Hydras were going extinct. But a pack of Nibel wolves would only do better with more excellent subordinates.

He could understand why they'd done it.

He watched experiments SXB-01 through 05 float in their tanks, eyes closed, still-plump bodies lax, and he wanted to kill them all anyway, Doctor Kanzaki for suggesting it, Shinra Senior for signing off on it, even Hojo for failing to protest loud enough about the bastardization of his greatest triumph.

One of them had First Class Kegarr's tight curls and coffee-skin, sickly under the green lamps. One of the two girls had Ulweiss's mouth, a quirk to it suggesting she'd have his smile too, the smile he'd worn even in death.

One had his mad head of spikes, except longer, three years of accelerated growth and never cut. Only it was silver.

They all had silver hair, somehow.

They'd stay in the pods another three months, the lab assistant was saying, until they reached a physical age of eight years old, or thereabout. They were being given language and the basic laws of the world already -- fire is hot, water is wet, gravity is a bitch, this is a kitty, don't pet the Malboro, Zack's mind translated from sciencese; next week they'd start in on what they would need to know as cadets of Shinra.

Shinra created you, Shinra is never wrong, Shinra is your god, Shinra is your life, you're grateful you can kill for Shinra, aren't you?

Zack ooh-ed and ahh-ed in all the right places, and started planning for a break out.

He hoped Sephiroth wouldn't attempt to stop him. Because perfect General or not, Zack hadn't spent so long as his right hand man -- as his best friend -- without learning how to break him.

Itachi's plan in life has been "Let Sasuke kill me, give Mangekyou so he can kill Madara" since the massacre. It's gained frills with time -- "drive Orochimaru out of Sasuke", for example, or "scare Danzou away from Sasuke" -- but apart from that, it stays the same; he's just walking along waiting for the time to implement it.

The missions he sabotages as often as he can get away with -- not often enough. Kisame watches him all the time.

Kisame is the one he likes most in Akatsuki, or dislikes the least, something in between. A competent, respectful partner who doesn't push with constant rivalry and doesn't cower or act paranoid. Sometimes he even manages to amuse him. Itachi sleeps with him mostly because why not. But it doesn't change the plan.

"Ah... Itachi-san? Did I ever tell you how my bloodline limit is different from baseline human in more than the obvious?" changes the plan.

"No matter. It's not like I'm going to keep it," he adds, and Itachi doesn't say anything because he doesn't know what to say. His family is dead, there's only Sasuke he can still claim as such : this has been true for so long that Kisame's "now there's more... now there isn't!" doesn't break through fast enough.

Madara noticing changes the plan. Because suddenly he's amused. Suddenly he's curious. Suddenly Kisame has no more choice, no more anything really.

Itachi isn't sure he feels very sorry for Kisame, dead in mind if not in body, who wasn't a nice man by any stretch of the word, but was still a competent partner the likes he rarely knew. But Itachi has seen the wall of eyes, dozens of little drawers with dozens of floating sharingans.

There's still a couple weeks before term when Itachi changes the plan. Kisame's body bleeds and bleeds when he cuts the child out. That's the only escape Itachi can provide him, who is much too big to be hidden in Itachi's shirt, under his large cloak. He lets Kisame to bleed himself out as he leaves the same way he came in, and large smears of red dry on his and the newborn's skin.

It's hours before he can clean and feed him. He swaddles him with the inside lining of his Akatsuki coat.

The baby's skin is a strange pinkish gray. But his eyes are normal human black, and he cries just like Sasuke used to, so long ago.

It's the first time in years Itachi doesn't have any idea what he's going to do. He just knows he's going to have to disappoint Sasuke.

Sometimes it feels like the massacre never happened, or his own betrayal (betrayals, really), or the war he fought on so many sides, or the reveal of so many dirty secrets hidden under Konoha's ordinary-village sleepiness.

Sometimes the tragedies of his life almost seem like they happened to someone else, except he can still feel them under his skin.

When he sees her toddling up the aisle it's another moment like those, skin-deep ordinary but so much baggage welling up behind.

"Sasuke," says a low, calm voice he knows like his own. He was expecting it, though, and besides he's having a hard time tearing his eyes away from her, wobbling toward a bright display of pea cans.

She doesn't look like Mikoto much, or anyone else. Her hair is dark but still too short and fine to tell if it'll be black or brown, her eyes squinting against the bright ceiling lights, her features still soft, pudgy.

He could say "Itachi", like he doesn't care, or "Aniki" because he's an adult now and while they might be blood-related it still doesn't mean he has to be soft about it, but instead he says "Niisan" like he used to, and then he tenses up and his eyes harden, so Itachi won't think that meant anything.

"Didn't expect to see you here," he adds, even though he's been expecting to cross Itachi's path everyday for the last two years since he woke from his coma and they let him out of the hospital. They more or less divided Konoha in two, without ever talking about it, or about anything else, and as far as he knows Itachi has never crossed over into Sasuke's territory since then. Sometimes Sasuke wishes he would and sometimes he thinks he might kill him if he dares, and on some days he wishes both.

When he meets them, Itachi's eyes are pale green, the eyes of some poor Konoha chuunin who took a kunai to the brain and who didn't have any parents to complain about where his other bits ended up. It makes Sasuke want to claw out his own.

"Papapa!" the toddler says, tugging on Itachi's pant leg. Sasuke doesn't know who breaks eye contact to look down at her first. She's brandishing a can, too heavy for her; it makes her wobble. Sasuke watches his brother pluck it out of her hand deftly before she can drop it on her own head.

"Thank you, Taimi," he says, almost gravely. She beams at him, all gums and a couple of tiny white teeth. Itachi puts the can in his basket, not even really looking at what it is. Sasuke aches.

"Our old landlord sold the building," Itachi says, and it takes Sasuke a second to realize he's talking to him. "We're living on 7th street now."

"Oh."

A few seconds of silence, as they stare at each other. Sasuke is attempting to look as hard to read as Itachi does, but he's not sure he can.

Then Itachi takes his daughter's hand, and turns her to face him. "Taimi, this is Sasuke."

He can't speak. He can't. All around them it's an ordinary day with housewives walking by -- a couple who huff at them as they navigate past them in the aisle -- and it's brightly lit and there are jingles and people chatting calmly, but between him and Itachi is a bubble of silence and history, a hole, a chasm.

"Shash'e?"

"Sasuke," he corrects her, slowly, and then all in one go, because he's decided, "I'm your uncle."

Itachi smiles at him. Sasuke stuffs his hands in his pockets before he does something stupid with them, like punching him or wrapping them around his neck, or worse enfolding him in a hug and clinging.

"We're done here. Do you want to get coffee?"

"Sure," Sasuke says, and follows them to the checkout.

Kaiki's parents have secrets. Even from him.

By extension, Kaiki's parents being strange is his own secret. He learned to lie and redirect his friends' interest, and their parents'. Yes, my mother knows sword forms. Her dad thought it'd be good for her posture. (He really has no idea if she even had a dad. Presuming, there.) No, you cannot sleep over. My father is too tired. (He's fine. His eyes are bleeding again is all.) Really, you think they look like each other? Huh, I never noticed. (Perhaps they were cousins. Forbidden love.)

He has long since guessed they used to be ninjas, no matter how good they are at playing samurai.

His mother is more of a tomboy than his father. She used to have long hair, almost as long as Father's, but one day she cut it short on her nape and then it was all bristled spikes. No one in the village commented. Kaiki knows why they didn't, because when he closes his eyes halfway and watches her through his eyelashes, he sees the same long ponytail, though at the edges it's all blurred. Neither of his parents offered any explanation, even though he knows they know he can see it.

Sometimes it feels as if they are tied together more through guilt than through love, but the bond nevertheless is absolute. Everything else pales beside it, even him. Oh, they care about him, and in their own ways they show it -- Father will sit with him and listen and never judge one bit, Mother will go with him through sword katas until he has them down. They'll never say "not now, I don't feel like it."

He tries not to ask for their time too often.

The only question about their past he asks is at Obon, old enough to wonder more, young and stupid enough not to have learned to shut up. He's sitting by the river in the dark, watching his mother let candle after candle float away, each in their little colored lantern-boat. It's a samurai tradition. Most families only send off five or ten at most, though, but his mother sends off thirty, forty at least. He used to like it. It looks pretty.

He asks, is it really one light per soul? and his father's blind eyes turn to him, and he replies, One per family. He doesn't say that they already look suspicious with so many dead-lanterns and there's no need to make it worse. Kaiki hears anyway.

To him they are Mother, Father, to them he is Kaiki, Samurai in training, their son, and he knows they'll never tell him the names they used to answer to, before he came.
