my brother's connection is shitty as hell, so he's trying to repair it. Meaning I might lose mine as a result. If you don't see me for a few centuries, that's why.

I'd type up the details of our grand internet provider adventures, but frankly, they don't make sense and haven't from the start. It's am epic tale of incompetence and misinformation.

I still hate wireless, btw. It should NOT be slow as hell and kick me every 30 minutes on average when i'm less than ten steps away from the source.

Wow, I'm using wireless, and I'm two floors down from the source and it's working fine.

However, when I was using another receiver it did kick me randomly. Maybe your problems lie there?

Is there a wall with a lot of electric wiring between the problem PCs and the router? That will mess up wireless something awful, and with Europe having 220 standard rather than 110 like we do here it will only be worse.

Also, wireless doesn't work too well with a lot of metal in the walls either, so if there's a plumbing "wet wall" between the PC and router that can also degrade the signal.

And to add to the list of things that make wireless sucky, corners scatter the signal.

I'm sitting less than 10 feet from our router, there's a wall and a closet between there and here, and my signal strength is only 48%. Fortunately a 802.11g signal at 48% is stable and sufficient for my internet usage. If I were an online gamer in some twitchfest MMORPG I might be in trouble.

If you are certain that the problem is in the house and not the service, maybe a wireless repeater would help. About the only way to be sure about that though is to either move your PC or move the router and see if you get a better connection as they get closer to each other. If they do, then a repeater would probably help.

Good luck with it.

Sorry you are having so much trouble with your internet. I know for a fact that it doesn't help to throw the computer across the room, off a balcony, shoot it, hit it with a hammer, or toss it in a lake. You lose more laptops that way. Hope everything gets fixed for you.

May the force be with you, and all that jazz.

Internet providers are the pits, nine out of ten times.

*shudders* I remember my saga (I refer it to a saga, only without the Nordic poetry) getting connected. It's always nice when finding out that the modem company I was referred to doesn't do what it is supposed to. Also nice hanging up in the middle of me talking without a word. Gotta love the recorded message. On the upside, the actual internet company, or at least the phone centre person was very helpful even though it wasn't her duty.

Good luck! :)
