Sasuke's emotional intensity is powerful like a firestorm, and to his flame, even Itachi feels hints of warmth. He is the only one who ever really made Itachi feel at all.
What Itachi loves second, almost just as much, is that he moves like a dancer, he moves like a killer. He is satisfied that it is Itachi's mission that made him that way, that crafted him out of that awkward, soft mold.
Itachi loves Sasuke like a blacksmith loves his most beloved blade, sharp and hard and deadly.

-Chouji isn't easy to scare off. She will throw in his face the most monstruous things she's done for love of Orochimaru, and he will just watch her calmly, steadily, and he won't even look afraid, won't even think of maybe walking away.

Inoshi loves Shikamaru because he loves Shikaku, and anything of Shikaku's he loves, even his harpy of a wife. And Shikamaru is Shikaku at his age, exactly -- and more intensely so.
But at least Shikamaru puts out.
One day Neji awakens at the hospital (that isn't new) and someone is laughing, light and clear and genuine (this is.) Someone greets him, not loudly, but there's a smile in that voice, and what a nice voice. Neji assumed that the low, growling, jeering howls of his enemies would be the last thing he ever heard, that the last thing he would feel would be the feet and fists and throwing stars all over his body.
He was wrong. Her hands are light and gentle and careful, mindful of the intensity of the damage, but not shying away. She talks easily, distracting him when he's bored, when the healing scars itch, but knows when to be quiet as well. She's soothing, and engaging, and competent, and smart without being at all pretentious about it. Refreshing. But he doesn't love her until the day she lets him offer -- understated, awkward -- comfort and encouragement, when he hears the false cheer in her voice becoming true once again, when he realizes, I did that. I can make her feel better, too. I have something to give.
When they take the bandages off his face, and he can open his eyes, he discovers that she isn't beautiful. She's pretty in a plain, ordinary way, and that is so much better than the sharp, cold, haughty beauty of the Hyuuga.
His teammates are rather surprised when he actually agrees the next time one of them half-heartedly suggests he might want to get his cuts and sprains checked out at the hospital.

I love this, truly. It gives us Team dynamics, individual dynamics, and is very real and human. Mostly, I love that "Sakura doesn't love Naruto ... because he loves them, but she does love him for what it says about him, because he is steadfast and true, and he gives of himself without counting." *SQUEE* It wouldn't be real, as you said, if she loved him because he loved her - she has to love him of herself, and here you wrote it out so real and lovely and plaintively, I feel the sad aspects of their relationship with one another, and the ANGST A LA SASUKE, just makes it more beautiful and painful and awesome! *could go on forever, really >.<*
