Sunlightverse - hrrm titles/aspects combos.

Okay, so. I got some of the titles for the prescratch Ancestors right, and some I got wrong but am too attached to -- Disciple being the Knight of Heart, for example, that fic's already written and i'm not rewriting it -- but at the same time I'd still like to have as many close to canon as possible, if only because it'll mean I don't have to make shit up and can use closer-to-canon personalities in the cases I didn't already have headcanons.

So.

Bard of Hope	guessed right!	X

Pyrope gets to be Rogue of Mind because knight was the only other thing badass enough for her, and Leijon already fic-canonized it as hers. (at first I had her as Bard because she seemed to like making a bit of a spectacle of her job, but... it fit better on Ampora.)
Makara gets Prince because I mostly saw him as powerful, and between Heir and Prince it's a bit of a toss-up, so better to go with canon.

The issue then arises between Captor, Nitram and Zahhak, because there's only mage, page and heir left over. My headcanon didn't jive much with a Heir Captor, but frankly I didn't have much of one in the first place. So if we go with canon as much as possible, Zahhak ends up page, and Nitram mage. IDK about Zahhak being a page when in the next life his power was still active, but maybe page is the class that takes the longest to activate in that you have to DIE FIRST or something.

But seriously, Nitram as a mage? I can't see it at all. But if we reshuffle so Zahhak is make, then Nitram ends up page, just like Tavros, and I don't feel that suits him either.

But if we make Captor the mage so Nitram can become Heir (doubles up on John but that seems a little less bad than doubling up on his own descendent) and Zahhak stay canon-Page then Captor's the one copying his descendent!

Aaa. I can't brain. Anyone got suggestions?

Also I don't know whether to keep my made-up names or edit all those I haven't written about yet. But wouldn't it make things confusing??? aaahh. People'd be like "canon names canon characters who the fuck is Kheper/Asleha/Nergal ." Whereas with all-OC names ... well I'd remember to add more elements to recognize them in the narrative, anyway? and people wouldn't expect to see the brand new prescratch trolls, either? because they're massively more the Alternian versions than the Beforus versions, anyway, and those are mostly headcanon for just about anyone and expected to be so. idek. aaa.

(also some of my names are prettier, okay XD i like Sherat better than Damara. :p)

It seems to me that you'll have to change at least one more title from canon to resolve this dilemma.

How about:

Summoner is Prince of Breath, because if using the status granted by his legendary aerial mutation to smash the established social order to itty-bitty little bits isn't "causing destruction through Breath", nothing is.

Grand Highblood gets Mage of Rage, because terrifying chucklevoodoos are terrifying. (And no one ever said that a Mage has to be physically weak.)

Psiionic and E%ecutor stay as in canon.

Um. Well. You're trying to keep this as close to canon as possible, but at a certain point here are going to be deviations. That said, names being the same as in canon will help most people not be confused. :( I like your names too for the record!

As far as the titles go... no idea. I'm still struggling to understand what each title means as far as how their aspects express themselves. :/

Side note: Kurloz creeps me out and makes me wonder who the hell brainwashed him. But at the same time, his sign language chat with Meulin was brain meltingly adorable. Which makes me wonder, are you are going with post scratch physical attributes or pre scratch disabilities?

Bodies are Alternian since that's the last iteration of the game. Else Karkat would be physically adult and Kheper wouldn't be.

The issue with going with canon is that I already started naming my trolls, damn it D: I am not going to rename them either because Kheper is not actually Kankri. But it'd be weird to pick and choose. argh.

The beforus Kankri crew all died at nineteen, I don't think even Signless died that early. He probably died at... twenty-five or thirty instead woo. >__>;;; he was probably the one who died youngest out of all the alternian ancestors, too.

Frankly, I like Kheper way, way better than Kankri. Depth of personality is what makes your characters so awesome, not names. So if you don't want to rename them then you shouldn't worry about it. Or the titles matching canon really. Just have fun with it. :)

If you're already changing canon titles and shit - Knight of Heart being too awesome to 'fix' - then you should just go ahead and change whatever you want. Put a note in saying that you started these before the canon names and titles came out, and that you give no fucks. I also give no fucks.

Also Prince of Breath is amazing and you should keep it.

I think you should go with whatever names you already had in mind. You've already named half of them, and unless you're going back to previous stories and editing them for canon-compliance, I think it'd be more consistent to keep giving them different names. And honestly, anyone reading Homestuck fanfiction, of all things, should be understanding when Andrew Hussie suddenly Josses half your headcanon with a single update.

Worst case scenario excuse: All the trolls were given different names pre- and post- scratch.

I have few feelings regarding titles because that sort of thing is almost a mathematical puzzle more than a creative one? But if you HAD to give two characters matching titles it might as well be the Gemini Twins...


Anyway these are my unsolicited opinions. :)

Hm. I think they merge with their alpha timeline selves. So it only matters for Dave, who gets to merge with Davesprite who was alive by the end.

I'm not going to take anything from current canon revelations unless it plugs a hole I needed plugged, though, it'd be way too complicated to keep canon compliant long-term. And the end of the game in this 'verse was a mysterious time which I am leaving nebulous on purpose. :X

I do recall canon saying that the Page role was an enormous amount of potential, and that if they managed to tap into it they'd be one of the most powerful plays in the game. So Darkleer keeping his Void abilities post-Scratch, even unwittingly, totally makes sense in that context.

Well, since you're using alternia/a2 as your base, it does make sense that everyone's names and personalities would be different. It also makes sense that their personalities in the sunlight world won't be exactly the same as their personality on alternia or beforus, since it's a mixture of those two different personalities. Nature vs nurture, and all that. But I'm guessing that they would respond to both names?

Hey, maybe it could be a thing in the mythology, like, to represent the multiple paths that you can travel along? And Aradia and Dave and presumably the other Time player as well have many different personalities that you can pray to/call upon because their shared domain is Time and therefore they have more possible paths to follow? I don't know....
