HS - Garden pairing babbling

When I say the Karkat ships aren't fixed in this story, what I mean is "why do you keep throwing me bunnies for casual threesomes with just about everyone ever."

Though it'd be real funny, but also a bit sad, considering how much of a romantic he is, if he never really had one solid longterm partner in concupiscent romance -- he does have Gamzee as a lifetime partner, but apart from, um, that one time they accidentally a Dave sandwich, it's not like he ever thinks about Gamzee and sex in the same train of thought without wanting to down about a gallon of brain bleach. Hell, even the Dave sandwich thing had him all "augh! why do I know what my moirail's orgasm face looks like!!" afterwards in between two bouts of post-orgasmic blissful smugness.

And then Dave would of course have told Terezi, who of course started cackling about delicious red-eyed boys in the back of my head all hey why does Dave get to ride the Karkat train and I don't cause really last we dated we were still kind of too young for pails so yeeeah.

That wouldn't last either, though, considering Dave and Terezi are disgustingly in love/pity/partnersincrimeforever and inviting Karkat in would be mostly for the kink and because they were mildly sad for him feeling lonely and kinda down about that regular sex thing he had such a short glimpse of. XD

(I'm not sure I'm even going to use the Dave/Terezi/Karkat thing, though seriously it's one of my favorite threesomes ever in this fandom omgwhydoesn'teveryonewriteit. It'd just be a bit gratuitious and fanservicey and possibly not exactly necessary for the plot. The Dave sandwich, though, it's his fault for being so easy to hate and spadeflirting all over the place. XDDDDDD Totes an interpersonal plot thread that needs to be resolved! Yes. Totally.)

And now I'm trying to figure out longterm pairings for our dear Mr. Vantas, and he's all "Jade/Karkat is cool but so is John/Karkat SOLUTION IS OBVIOUS."

I'm thinking IF this happens it'll happen after at least three years, so maybe he'll be less "homg i know exactly how i'll recognize my ~~one~~ two true soulmates due to all the movies i've ever watched!!!" and more "... i like him/her/them and it's good for us like this and why am i feeling so guilty and embarrassed about it, it doesn't hurt anyone damn it".

Though there'll be jokes about how the only human he hasn't porked yet is Rose and they might want to get on with it. Their faaaaaaces.

Or maybe while writing Nepeta I'll finally figure out how it's supposed to work in the Karkat => Nepeta direction. Or maybe... idek.

Oh hey, another justification for why Dave/Karkat/Terezi could happen: it's not like Dave can fill a pail with her for the reproduction drones. 9__9

At some point Karkat and Sollux could totes try their hand at black-flirting, only they're too used to being friends for that, they get on each other's nerves pretty often but it never turns into true hate. Hm. Who else... meh. Why are you so pale on everyone, Karkat, it makes it really hard to make things turn either happysexy or hatesexy. :(

Now the reason why the John ships aren't fixed in this story is... well, it depends mostly on Karkat. I think John briefly dated Nepeta in the veil but it never did get very far. Superficially they get along well but there were very few deeper hooks, and in general he still looks to girls first, and there are ~REASONS~ why not Vriska.

Also I've scientifically determined that with humans he's heterosexual but trolls just don't... idk, smell human at all so there's no pheromones yelling NO NO THIS IS A DUDE STOP THE PANTS PARTY.

... only, oh, years and years of social conditioning and personal image, oh, and what he finds visually appealing which uh doesn't really include many manly things... so... still a crapton of issues with liking troll dudes, but anything with troll girls would already have to break through that "no base chemical reaction" barrier and my trolls are hermaphrotidic anyway and don't 100% mesh with human gender ideals in the first place woo alien shenanigans. It'd be hard but for the right person he might be able to compromise, though it'd be more "I love this person and want them to feel good and full-body physical contact is always awesome" than "ohmygod i need to be inside him/her nownownow oh hey I guess I like them tons too". So it wouldn't be instant attraction, it'd have to develop slow. I don't know, it's hard to summarize without making it sound like "I'm not gay i just love YOU" which is a trope that can be equally cute and disturbing... also it does make it so it just so happens two out of two human dudes like the dudes at least part-time, and one of the girls is a full-time lesbian, which is maybe a bit much in a four-people group.

Most of the time Karkat is pretty masculine in ways that jive with human ideas of such, but their social constructs don't match perfectly.

Well remember that the statistical average changes with the population. For example, the percentage of gay males in the US population is far lower than the percentage of gay males in say, the furry fandom (in the US, possibly also internationally). So, it would not surprise me at all to find that the population of gay or bisexual individuals in a small population of gamers turns out to be very, very different from the general world population.

Now I think you had a primer on troll romance a bit ago, I think I need to go read it again. XD

Well yeah, but John is the one who canonly turns down a guy (karkat, ironically) with a "Sorry, but I am not a homosexual." Granted he's thirteen at the time, and doesn't seem to be fully aware of bisexuality as a concept, even though Karkat pretty much got it through clearly that all trolls liked both, to the point they don't even have a word for someone who isn't. Also Karkat was proposing hateboyfriendship, which was a concept that pretty much boggled him... But still. There's some wiggle room, but then I go and make Dave also like guys part time (though I think he's closer to bisexual but hetero-romantic anyway).

Then again, AGAIN, they HAVE been socializing nonstop with trolls from age 13 to 16, which are pretty important years re: identifying wiht your peers, so it's not unimaginable that they absorbed some attitudes from each other, and that's why they're all a bit more alright with the idea of at least trying it out, even if it ends up not being their thing. HMMM. >___>

Yeah, it was a game construct so it doesn't work in a world where the game can't work. As an aside, that means there never were and never will be Ancestors or Dirk/Jane/Roxy/Jake. Even the players themselves are come-from-outside-this-reality anomalies. Which is why they get to keep their powers; they function on a slightly different set of rules than what's normally possible on Alternia. But since there's no game anymore, they're not gods anymore.

Somehow none of them are eager to test whether they could still survive an unjust or unheroic death. Good plan, guys. >__>

And the thing I come away with, after your long, thoughtful post on character dynamics, relationship development, and human sexuality as it relates to aliens of ambiguous gender is, of course Dave/Terezi/Karkat, DO WANT. *sigh*

I tell you what: give me a prompt with slightly more details than just the pairing, and I will try writing some for you. :-)

And now I have lost all of my bunnies, save that in this staggering amount of fics I have noticed a trend! It's mostly about Terezi being the domme and topping them into making out with each other. Which is a very sexy dynamic and I can understand how and why it's sexy but that means she participates less! ... but, insanely sexy. Question--is there a reason you're mainly considering flushed ships for Karkat? Because while there's a good question of whether he's really capable of that kind of hate, he does spadeflirt around a lot, especially with both John and Jade, and I'm pretty sure either of them might be willing to pretend it's totally black just to save Karkat the vapors over his own moral turpitude. :)

Also the idea of trolls pinging humans as kind of androgynous appeals to me greatly--both for kink purposes, and because it could potentially reinforce any racism in the greater society (assuming it struck other, less accepting humans as sort of weird/uncanny valley-ish).

I'm trying to have them all more mature so Karkat doesn't want to pretend he hates either of them XD he really doesn't anymore and there's no hiding it. It's not like they're all in a hurry to fill all of their quadrants either, they're still pretty young! and considering how incestuous that'd make the group, it means quite a few of them will probably fill some out-group anyway.

Yeah, a lot of humans are weirded out by trolls, since unlike the kids they didn't learn to see them as male/female first and then learned they had both in their pants, even if mentally they usually matched their appearance. It's yet another "trolls are freaky" thing. Then again the trolls think of humans as genitally mutilated and stuff. It's freaky on both sides.

It's basically a webcomic. Kind of. Almost. There's random animations and little flash games at random in the storyline, a lot of the plot is conveyed through color-coded chatlogs, and sometimes there's also music. The art eventually grows on you but apart from the vids by guest artists there is no denying it's kind of ugly. Funny, though. But the characters, ngh the characters. ;_____; and the alienness and the time-traveling mindfuckery... nghhhhgnghghgh.

The first arc is quite random and I found it tedious to get through, also as a friend said it seemed more gag-driven than character-driven, but once it takes off, bwee.

I agree that's parts of the beginning are tedious but overall I am enjoying it. I fully intend to gorge myself ( as much as the mother of a 2 year old is capable) until I have to wait for the next installment like everyone else.

Just so you know, because of you (and miko_no_da and Laylah and others to a lesser extent I guess) writing in a new (to me) fandom, I decided to google Homestuck a few weeks ago and see what the hell it was.

As soon as I realized it was a webcomic, I decided to check it out. Now I do nothing else. Nothing. Do you understand? I do nothing except read Homestuck and fanficition about Homestuck. And I cannot function unless I get solid amounts of it every day. I am deep into Act 6.
