The genderbend AU fic meme is going awesomegood, by which I mean I WROTE 14 THINGS GUYS. which for me is astronomical. Sometimes I only manage three drabbles before I peter out. And I'm still going! ^o^ So far the only things I really fail at are the DCMK prompts. I don't know why, I have a really hard time figuring them out as genderbent. Maybe because I don't know them well enough, or maybe because they're all such stereotypical girls/boys, I don't know.

In real life news, urgh blood test. *curls arms defensively* I have to admit this time there's zero bruising, so she did it pretty well, but nrgh. It wasn't even that it hurt a lot, it's... I don't know, not the blood itself but maybe the expectation of pain, that you're going to have to sit here and not move and take it, I always get really dizzy and pale and nauseated. It's frustrating. I feel weak. I have well-hidden veins that roll under the needle so it's always a moment of "how am I going to get maimed this time around". It doesn't help that I'm probably going to have to do it bimonthly for a little while. ;__;

And now I have to pee in a bottle for the next 24 hours. this is VERY UNPRACTICAL, guys. D: Stupid hormone levels issues.

Heh XD; yeah, the situations would resonate very differently. I mean, girl!conan would still be taken in by girl!ran, but either boy or girl conan with boyran is a big no.

I don't know, I keep seeing them all so heteronormative and typical girl/boy in some ways, it's really hard to imagine them reversed. It's like, I don't know, they don't have enough character outside of "typical arrogant/bright young man" for me to really figure out who else they'd be. Not that I really think they don't have enough character development, but a lot of it is in very traditional/stylized/manga archetype ways. I don't know how to explain.

Okay, Kaito as a girl is easier to imagine. She'd totally crossdress to become Kid and it would be awesome, and apart from that and her being best friends with Aoko instead of will-they-won't-they sorta-romance she's free spirited enough. But for the other characters it's almost a matter of exchanging one set of gendered tropes for another supposedly equivalent-but-really-not tropes that might rewrite them into different people entirely... and then again i don't know why it's not working for me in this manga, because flipping over tropes is supposed to be fun! I can't even explain it properly. argh. *frustration!*

I like your thoughts on heiji being maybe raised/pressured into becoming a lady like her mom, and it just Not Happening because Heiji is ... just so Heiji. I agree.

I'm trying to think if girl Shinichi might have a harder time being a detective, but I'm not sure. I mean, Shinichi got noticed on that plane ride, and had to force his way into helping. Girl!Shinichi would probably do the same thing (She'd still be as logical, and being a girl herself she wouldn't be blinded by White Knight syndrome, so I don't see her as allowing them to dismiss her because she's a girl any more than he allowed them to dismiss him because he's a teenager), so I think that case would go more or less the same, which sets the tone for the her interactions with the police. Though her mother would have pushed harder for an acting career. Some tension maybe? Maybe not, the Kudou's are pretty lackadaisical parents. Or would that change if Shinichi was a girl? Well, if the parents were home then that'd change a whole lot of the plot. The Kudou's would have to hide and they'd take Shinichi with them (even if she didn't want to, they'd just have to pick her up and carry her).

Fuck, I really want to see girl!Heiji rebelling against her father because she wants to be a detective. I mean, he's not thrilled with the whole thing with boy!Heiji, girl!Heiji is going to add an extra layer to the argument. And girl!Heiji'd flip if she though her Dad thought her incapable because of her gender.

She might even be disappointed/resent her mother for being the good housewife. (Not a logical response, but according to my grandmother was pretty common when women were finally establishing their place in the work force and girls were thus starting to grow up with different goals than their mothers.) Unless her mother supported her decisions. Heiji's Mom strikes me as a bit of a hidden Mama Bear.
