tyr story - two chibi pics + worldbuilding rambles
I kinda want to be worldbuilding or at least plotbuilding for this story today, or perhaps the mermaids, but I have no idea where to start. Hrrn. But I do have two quickish chibi pics!

it's funny how I use his first name and her last when talking about them, huh. I dunno, to me she's more Serrano than Neve. It's softer/more personal, maybe? whereas Tyr doesn't give a crap who calls him Tyr and who calls him Andersen either way, it's not a personal boundary for him.
The company is called Theta for Therianthrope. XD Though that's a name I pulled out of my ass after two seconds of trying to find something for the picture, so it might still change. Alpha was too cliche, and I couldn't figure out what else they'd name their company, if not with weird roman/greek letters. I need to research military stuff more, and then decide if my divergent history means this detail would also change and in favor of WHAT it would change. Suggestions welcome.

Lin and her best friend Athena the secretary, and some poor random guy whose hands shoulda been elsewhere. Athena needs a last name. Suggestions?
She works as secretary to some Colonel or other, and I haven't decided yet whether she's ex-military or if she just never bothered (why should all kickass women have been in the military, huh?) She's not bubbly so much as cheerfully, optimistically strong-willed and maybe a tiny bit violent. (you harsh my squee and i harsh YOUR FACE. Alright? Yay. :D)
Anyway recently I had an idea about the plot, because i thought the chapters i have written already are all so SLOW and all character introduction and the meeting with the werewolves is too coincidental. So what if they were introduced through the military instead? So then it wouldn't be a coincidence (i'm wary of those in stories -- too many of them and it starts to sound way too convenient) and the werewolves would get to be resentful and irritated because they'd feel kinda pressured to take those weirdos in or get outed to the bigger community, which is waugh.
*edits stuff so it'll be clearer!!*
there are two issues I had with the plot.
-the reason for the werepeople to stay hidden is a little weak:
-----There's low-grade magic in this 'verse and stories of older, way more powerful magic, so shapeshifting would not come totally out of the blue;
-----there are other nonhuman species in this AU (pseudoelves, Bigfoot...) and not all of them are at war with the humans -- just the one, actually, though that's partly because the others are on their way to a quiet extinction;
-----such a huge war means most human resources are turned toward it and the need for othering a people is already pretty well covered there, so there wouldn't be a ton of emotional strength left over to hate on werepeople.
-the reason for the elves to stop the war after 500 years of on and off warring is a little weak (hell, very weak -- I didn't have any good one save "uh, they kicked everyone out of Europe so maybe they can stop there, even though the rest of the world now hates their guts.")
But werepeople are strong like elves and they can resist elf mind-influence powers.
Therefore THEY ARE IN HIDING BECAUSE THE ELVES WENT ALL GENOCIDE ON THEIR ASSES BEFORE.The werepeople are hiding less because they're scared of their fellow humans' reaction (though that's still a concern) as because they believe the pseudoelves would send death squads to do them in! :D :D :D :D :D It happened before! They have precedent!
Back then some elf general or other thought the werepeople are not very dangerous when it's not around the full moon, and when they bite someone they have to take care of them for a couple years until they can be on their own, so that's a slow method of expansion, but if they were allowed to spread out they might perhaps grow into a real threat. (The Berserker legends were real enough.)
And NOW... with the suppressors the not-yet-weres are less lost in their instincts, therefore can be smarter on a battlefield and less easily tricked. They don't transform, so their senses and physical strength are lower, BUT still way higher than a normal human. AND they are still resilient to mindfucking! And now that the humans have the virus in their labs... spread all over the country... and they know where to find more... they could infect half of their forces if they felt it was necessary, and then the elves would really be fucked.
shewhoflies nailed it. "so they're basically quitting while they're ahead?" Yep. That's totally it. XD
What they don't know at the moment is that a soldier who's been virus'd is 90% likely to die in the following year, but if the humans were pushed far enough and decided to do a mass suicide attack to eradicate them right back, it might not matter how long they get to live after that. The humans have a lot more population to throw away than the pseudoelves do.
... now I need to figure out interesting native werewolf characters. Apart from Asshole Beta and Old Alpha I have exactly two of them so far (NOT the salesguys, they're clicheboring as they come) and even those two are more plot devices than anything else. A pack needs more than that! >:/

-delurks-
Yay, Tyr and the gang are coming back, sorta. I've been craving more werewolfy story-things from you! Unfortunately, I'm horrible at plotting, so I really can't help you there, but I'm rooting for you. Gooooo Asuka!
Re: Squee
the plot is slowly but surely fitting itself together in the back of my brain. Hopefully soonish it'll snap together! *crosses fingers*

Do weres have to be canine?
Wait you had felines in your pic right? And since most felines aren't group-oriented you don't have to stick to that... so, what are the limitations? Predator vs prey mammals?
'Cause I can totally see some large, gruff manly guy
whose actually a big ole softy on the insidebeing like, a bear.Or you can have an annoyingly mischievous girl whose a jackal or hyena.
If not sticking to the predator/prey thing strictly there could be a ram! (sorry, pan image of hooves and horns and little floof tail was too cute to resist imagining...*cough*)
...and now I can't remember where I was going with this lol. Total brainfart. Sorry. XD
I'll uh, just exit stage left now before I embarrass myself more. *facepalm*

and no, they're not all canine, there are cats and other predatory things in there. Other strains of non-predatory lycanthropy might have existed before and survived in some very remote places, but if that's the case no one knows about them. The big thing though is that wolves always want to have a pack, so if they don't find one they'll create one via contaminating; their urge to turn other people is stronger than solitary species. also due to their social order thing they work better for military purposes, so they've been more widely used; cat weres tend to care mostly about their own dinner and don't worry much about society.
but the local pack i think is all wolf. there might be a couple other local weres who are other animals but. hm. they wouldn't be included in the group.
... i kinda want werehyenas now. especially because of the fun anatomy and female-dominated thing. >__>

If there's not many of them, and their instinct is to OMG-FORM-A-PACK-NAO, they could have pulled some hyenas in? I mean, they're closer related to felines than canines but they look canine and "...spotted hyenas live in a society just as large and just as complex as a baboon,' Dr. Holekamp said, noting that spotted hyenas live in the largest social groups of any carnivore. 'We’re talking about 60 to 80 individuals who all know each other individually." (NYT (http://www.nytimes.com/2008/03/04/science/04hyen.html)) And yeah, the fact that the top-dog in the hyena hierarchy is female whereas wolves tend to have a male in the alpha position can lead to conflict-fun-tiems? *bats lashes*

... problem is my native werewolves are kinda hrrrn about other were species, though MAYBE i could swing it as hyenas being JUUUST social enough to be able to deal, which would be neat. but if i can't, i don't think the town can support a wolf pack and a hyena pack together. Maybe in the next town over but that means they wouldn't be regulars in the cast. Hrrrrn. Still, i like the idea. Will ponder!

What if this possible-female-hyena in the local hrrn-other-weres pack was a secretly/in-denial aspiring alpha? WHAT would the rest of the pack think?
Not only is she female, but but she's not even wolf! But she's still pack, she has the right etc, etc... the pack would then have ~conflict~ and people would be split down the middle about what to do... and maaaybe the anti-other-weres people would get even more extreme, and so poor she-hyena would probably be all conflicted and confused about all her alpha-feelings. And man, she and asshole-beta really wouldn't get on...
And then Tyr and his extremely-mixed pack show up in town. XDDD
If this is a terrible idea that is going to mess up the WHOLE PLOT, or worse, create a Mary Sue then please feel free to ignore this whole ramble-thing. UM. Obviously, since it's YOUR ficAlso, I was going to echo the above "DO EEEEEET", but I've already read the to-write list you've posted up above... and also reached the cliff-hanger in the latest instalment of Steal (OH MY GOD CLOUD, and KEGARR, and GABE *hyperventilates*), and now I'm just... just... confused. I WANT YOU TO WRITE EVERYTHING AT ONCE but obviously that is impossible, so I will just say PLEASE LET ASUKA'S RL NOT MESS ANYTHING UP. And I hope you stay happy and healthy, trite as that sounds. ^^b

... HMMMMMM this could be very interesting. I'm not sure it would fit with the story themes I'm trying to pull out, but then again it's not very defined yet.
♥♥♥♥♥
Alas my own laziness is way more likely to mess things up than my RL. ~___~;
