So I'm kinda sorta slowly reading my way through the HUNDRED BAZILION murder cases of the Detective Conan manga. And there's this guy Heiji, the High School Detective of the West and his RIVAL (but in a very laid back friendly way XD), and ... Conan already has some kind of corpse magnet power that makes him find a new murder every week or so, but apparently when Heiji is in his orbit the corpses actively come to them.

joisbishmyoga: I can't quite remember how... oh, wait, there was the one where the guy got thrown off the balcony and impaled on the spikes of the front gate... and then there was the one where the guy sailed off a cliff in his car... did you read the one where they first visit Osaka and meet Kazuha and the guy lands on the hood of the cop car?

askerian: yeah, i was reading that one just now XD

joisbishmyoga: Oh, and there was the flashback case where Heiji and Shinichi were, like, twelve, and running around a ski resort independently solving the case of the guy who got killed on the ski lift, but that was more the killer jumping off than the corpse falling...

askerian: pffffhahahahahaha

askerian: which was the first one? i mean, is the cop car happening before or after the impalement?

joisbishmyoga: Oh. Before.

askerian: so obviously they're ESCALATING.

I don't think "bodies hung in the rafters" counts... neither does the school play... ah, there's "Kazuha almost falls off the cliff", but it's really "Heiji and Kazuha fall off the cliff"... the soccer player doesn't count... the kendo tournament doesn't count... there's "burning man falls off Osaka castle", srsly? srsly?... there's "Jodie-sensei almost goes splat like the victim"... three more in a row that don't count... I remember that victim was found in the crow's nest of a ship... three more that don't count... flashback to the ski resort... doesn't count... Detective Koshien, hee Hakuba hateST... and four more without bodies going splat.

joisbishmyoga: It's been toning down. The last seven or so cases haven't had bodies falling that I'm aware of. Though we'll see when I read them.

joisbishmyoga: Guy falls off a crane. Guy gets catapulted off an aircraft carrier (by the brake rope) while they're touring a naval base. Um...

askerian: ooh, the aircraft carrier!

joisbishmyoga: There are cable cars in Japan, going up the mountainsides in tourist spots. Maybe a cable snaps! And then you get a WHOLE CARLOAD of people going splat in front of Heiji and Conan!

askerian: Onsen? and then when they think they're safe, the mysteriously drying off natural spring ERUPTS and a body that had been caught in the water tunnels bursts out.

askerian: it had to be rotted enough to be forced through, you understand.

joisbishmyoga: HOT SPRING RESORT. And one of the pools had been inexplicably losing water, they were going to call in experts in the morning, Conan and Heiji are in the bath next door when FWOOM.

askerian: conan: *WILL NEVER FEEL CLEAN EVER AGAIN*

askerian: heiji: so... this one didn't FALL ON US so much as TAKE FLIGHT FROM UNDER US. ... what does that say about the trend?

askerian: conan:! we're pulling the other side of the globe through.

joisbishmyoga: Someone is trying to frame the Kid again... by killing a female Kid impersonator and sending the glider off! SPLAT in front of Heiji and Conan!

joisbishmyoga: Only it's not an accurate enough Kid costume, and it's female.

askerian: dumps the culprit over a cliff!

askerian: so heiji and conan get to watch the perp fall several times.

joisbishmyoga: He doesn't really do that, he just helps the police when he can.

joisbishmyoga: Another "fall off a building": a stunt free-climber goes splat, only Heiji and Conan notice pretty quickly that it's a fake stunt-climber -- the hands and clothes are all wrong.

joisbishmyoga: Then there's bridges, they've always got workers up on top painting the spans to prevent corrosion.

The one with the blimp. I saw it twice in theaters in Japan and that was like 4 months ago so it should be available online now...

depends how long it takes to come out as a DVD, naruto movies take something like six months, i think. *forgetful* anyway i took a look at the two anime streaming sites i use and one of them had people bitching in the comments about HORRIBLE SUBS OMG DUN BOTHER and the other refuses to load, so... hn. I believe I shall investigate some more. >___>

To be fair it's an interesting enough case that it will probably inspire a "ripped from the headlines" story.

It's not mentioned in the English wiki article but the victim was married and had no intentions to leave her husband for Marcel Somers (so he's actually a viable suspect too).
