random meme... Bulletproof story kinks.
It's all because of
mildmay and
sarolynne. See!
sarolynne: I'm trying to do this meme now. Sorry, flist.
askerian: eeeeeeeeeee
askerian: i'm not sure what mine are
askerian: ... apart from psychic bonding and rivalslash of course
askerian: ... and demons inside people.
askerian: ... and werewolves.
askerian: with wings.
sarolynne: XDDD
askerian: ... *PLOTS OFIC*
Note, they're only bulletproof as long as they're well-written. >__> Which I guess isn't very bulletproof, but. Yeah.
1. Psychic/telepathic/empathic bonding: I... don't have any idea why this one pings me so hard. Maybe the "knowing someone THAT deeply", maybe the "your partner will never leave you" (which can push into creepy -- what if they don't WANT to love you, isn't that like date rape but worse?) ... It's just friggin shiny. Whether they're destined soulmates from the start (and have to deal with it) or the bond is just something that grows over time with feelings of closeness and "on the same wavelength"-ness, it's always good.
2. Rivalries: The intensity of it is just staggering. It's always dynamic, never slow or boring. But I only like the kind where there is also respect -- contempt between rivals makes them not rivals but enemies, or worse, bully/target, and that's just ew. Grudging respect, forced to slowly acknowledge the other one's good points but still clashing with them, but you can understand each other so well on some things, but some other things are -- gah, no, he's so wrong, I'll prove it to him. And they make each other better people, either via convincing each other of what's right, or by finding Right in the middle of the road. Yes. *__* I also love how a good rival is often as important and character-defining as a good friend. A good rival dynamic should temper the two characters like a sword, not break them little by little. And if that happens, it's a guaranteed ZING from me.
And then I slash the hell out of them for my personal pleasure. Naturally.
In the same vein, tough love and people using insults as endearments or to cover up their very real feelings, which they are afraid of showing because those feelings are fragile and they're scared of them getting hurt/mocked/rejected, or even accepted because omg that would change everything. Mrrrrr. *_*
3. Threesomes/polyamory/weird romantic entanglements/nakama-ship (sorry saro XD): As long as there's no cheating and no dumping and it's all about "loving more people doesn't mean loving any of them any less", i'm always game. Even if some of that love is the pure platonic kind -- I don't care a whole lot if X hooks up with Y or Z, but if he dumps his posse over it or stops hanging out with them every day i'm just not interested. I want to believe in unbreakable bonds between people. Us against the world. Mmh.
(in my mind the Avatar cast are still touring the world together every weekend. they fly Appa right into the Fire throne room to grab Zuko by the neck and ZZZZIP off they go. Also Sora and Riku fucking take Kairi along the next fucking time they leave to travel fuckdamnit. want moar of that. Also team seven always and forever and you can add on more members but the old ones will never lose their membership ever ever ever. I read that awesome fic once that was about Team Seven/Team Kakashi and Naruto's section was about how he doesn't see them as different. It's still team seven; team seven just grew a little larger over the years. That's it exactly. Also fuck anyone who writes anything about the One Piece cast going their separate ways, EVER. They're gonna sail together until the end of the universe.)
:
4. Werewolves: Werewolves are fucking awesome. They combine my love for "the beast/demon/darkness within" and people who are human but not quite and live by a different set of instincts and expectations. I love it when they have to try to merge with human society and get along with people and struggle with their instincts, and hopefully find people who accept them as they are eventually. Also, packs and pack bonds tie into my nakama-love.
5. Post-apocalypse urban fantasy: I like post-apocalypse -- love broken buildings, reinventing the space, and trying to be ingenious and survive with broken odds and ends from what you used to own and throw away by the dozens, and the desperate longing for a lost past and hope for a better future -- and I like urban fantasy much more than heroic fantasy or any other kind of fantasy, (a vampire in a leather jacket >>>>>> a vampire in a froofy silk lace thing IMHO u.u A faerie working at a rest stop! a unicorn in Central Park! it makes me feel like perhaps they're around even now, a little wearier but adapted anyway, I just don't know where to look) but combine the two and I am in heaven.
When I figured out that the Bastard!! manga wasn't set in a generic Middle Ages fantasy setting but was in fact 400 years after the apocalypse I just about creamed my pants. Even though sadly enough it's really post-urban only by name because, well, 400 years. Woe. But the concept... yes. Yes.
So obviously I'm trying to figure out an original story about two alpha werewolves meeting in a dystopian post-apocalypse city and reluctantly forming a psychic pack bond. And then getting themselves a whole pack. And a little harem.
It would be the height of coolness, wouldn't it. *_*

As for 3, I almost always have to pretend that a series ends differently than canon shows because I always want them to stay together too!

YESSS. The kink also spreads into love potions and veelas in harry potter. Well, the general IDEAS of love potions and veelas, because god knows it was rarely written in a way that didn't make me cringe. But when it worked, prrrrrt. it was the whole reason i shipped harry/draco at all. XD

It's kinda funny for you to put these 5 out clearly, especially as when looking at your writing, they already scream and shout "Look at me!"
*runs away to reread Garou again*

I really should have made it a fivesome in the end. XD shiny shiny themes.

Especially, massively on the nakama-shipping. I really hate it when couples in romance stories become insular and break it off/spend less time with their friend groups, it's dumb. Love is inclusive, not exclusive, damnit. I also love, love huge friends-&-family households, like the more people you can get living together raising babies, the better. I think this is a main of why I've got such a hard-on for werewolves (and certain takes on Saiyajin in DBZ fandom), because it allows for the crazy-strong family bonds and pack building.
Also Sora and Riku fucking take Kairi along the next fucking time they leave to travel fuckdamnit
Yes, this! If the next game with those three doesn't have Kairi taking apart in the adventure, I will be Displeased.

Nakama-shipping = T^T-b
Huge households are SO MUCH LOVE and warmth and friendship and support and MASSIVE LOVE. Nnngh.
About SoRiKai, I started reading over your multipart this afternoon... 9______9 ♥♥♥ Mmmh.
They're gonna teach her how to properly keyblade people in the face, right? >.> I mean, real properly.

You just hit the nail directly on the head of what I really love about UF, and what I sometimes get irked that isn't played up enough... I guess you could say the 'weary normality' of it all, but that's something I personally really dig.

5. Saaay, are you familiar with the exploits of Mercy Thompson? It also has plenty of 4 being kinda 2 and 3 at each other.
small time Lurker delurking
And also the two first books just went out in France... check L'Appel de la Lune & Les Liens du sangs. I just finished reading the second one and it's quite good, really.

His take is usually more of a human getting turned into/integrated into a different society and having to adapt to it (and any instincts that may be included).
Like Tarrin, human getting turned into a werecat and almost being driven mad by his new instincts. He goes all over the scale during his eight books of adventure. It's the first story he wrote though, and it shows in the first (few?) books.
They can still be read here (http://sennadar.com/oldsite/) at least for the moment.
More recent though, would be Spirit Walker/Shadow Walker. Not going to say much of those though. I don't know what to really say without spoiling them. (Other then pointing out that they take place about a millennium after a self-made apocalypse. If you grab a map you might even figure out where the locations are. Or you could read the forum; it was discussed in one of the topics.)
All of the chapters are available here (http://forums.sennadar.com/viewforum.php?f=23) on the forum.

(and are they about some other character? DX I admit I couldn't get over how he accepted he was now a werecat in under ten lines. Where's the denial, the anger? blah. "oh my mom told me to try all kinds of foods before i say i don't like it, that totally applies for having my own comfortable familiar body suddenly turned into a strange creature's against my will and in a traumatic way." ... i've spent all day at my cousin's and i'm prone to be more ranty than usual, sorry XD)
Will poke at spirit walker. >___>

*sneaks off to add werewolves to post-(sorta)apocalypse "All Myths Are Real" four-man-band of monster hunters original fic/comic thing
which is still in the early development phases, but that's what world building is for~!**dusts off alpha werewolf bitch character* Reinventing decade-old characters feels kinda like taking toys out of an old box in the attic. Awww. XD

#3 is...well, considering my whole lj account is devoted to it XDD (and it's all~ your fault. If I hadn't read teamwork now I wouldn't be plotting threesomes.)
#2 Rivals huh. Your notes made me reflect, I need to study more on how to show it in my fics. My problem with fic rivalries is, they don't last. As soon as characters become friends or lovers, it's the end of it. Wish I had a cleared pic myself, but the only rival I ever got in RL was a love/hate relationship in high school so I can't know >.> I do remember wanting to be like him and hating him at the same time..XD Naruto, I understand you so much.
#3 PSYCHIC BOND, YES!*O* Telepathic communication, and and, telepathic mind-reading, which is so convinient when you want to explain your fantasies to the other XDD; (err ok, out of all the possible uses that was the least important, but I can so totally see Sasuke in the role. Probably that's why he gave the lead for the Mermaid-fic character.)
