I think I'm getting a better idea of why I have such a writer's block with Teamwork 3.

At first I thought it was that I like writing character interaction more than action -- I hate having to describe a fight, especially with the whole choreography and whatnot, and the next chapters are going to be nothing but. And, well, it's partly that, but mostly it's that I worry about the gap between TW2 and 3. Things happened in between, and I haven't written them down -- mostly that they settled down a bit re: romance-and-sex related worries, but also that Sakura had her first fight where she used the smashy punch (and broke her hand cause she lacked training XD), and ShikaTema things started to happen, and Sasuke had jealous moments over Naruto and Sakura that make it feel less like he's utterly asexual and just humors them because they're his teammates/friends...

I haven't written then down, and I hate flashbacks, and so it's kind of like they haven't happened. Since I never know precisely how a scene happened in detail until I actually write it down. Often it turns out completely different from my notes.

So then I go and write TW3, and... it's all teammates, fights and politics, and there's almost no space to write anything about the romance/friendship relationship since they're also professionals and they wouldn't mix it up during a friggin exam, and -- well, teammates = already pretty strong bond, but. Hn. Nrrrrgh. It doesn't mention anything much about what they did or how they resolved some interpersonal stuff and progressed about it and found other problems to worry about, and I feel like the fic is missing a dimension because of it, because it doesn't have that background of trust and love and broken fingers as a background. It feels like I'm writing a story about teammates who, and it is rarely mentioned, happen to fuck from time to time, and while it's part of it, that's not how I want to portray it.

haha. "portray". I just want some molest0ring to make the fights less dry. XD

So I think I'mma gonna go back and write that friggin trip to Sand Village after all. >_> Boy is this going to be amusing to post on FFnet. Bah! Chronology is for pussies.

Why not write a Teamwork 2.5, with all those scenes you want to happen inbetween, but not tied together chronologically. Then you could write TW3 at the same time, without skipping those bits.

i definitely understand where you're coming from. i have a new idea for a fic i desparately want to get started on, but i can't because there are things that really, really need to be written before i get to work on this new thing. However, what needs to be written first is 2 whole other fics.

Not a problem. It is something I’ve seen done with success before. All you need to do, and do carefully, is keep track of the timeline, so you don’t write one thing in 2.5, and a contradicting one in TW3. That really shouldn't be a problem for you though.

Maybe those in-between situations don't have to be flashbacks. Why can't they be a part of TW3? And anyways, I always thought TW2 ended a little early. If you ask me, the whole time-jump between TW2 and 3 wasn't necessary (not bad, just not necessary). I'd definitely read the stuff that happens in between. ^_^
And if it's broken up so that the fic isn't freakishly long or something, why not?? Long stuff is fun! =D

Yeah, I see what you mean, but by the end of TW2 I just wanted it to be OVER already. There really wasn't much to the fallout that I couldn't stuff in the interludes, and I was getting tired of coming up with filler fluff scene.

The chuunin exam does it the other way, it's all plot-related stuff, no space for fluff and socializing at all, and I think I like it even less. Grarr.

I still regret I couldn't write the lemon, not especially because of the naughty bits but because it was emotionally intense and important. But it just... didn't work. Augh. Maybe I'll try again later. T__T;

I was wondering about that. I mean, things had to be shaky. Even normal M/F relationships have a lot of drama, and I don't even want to get into M/F/M teen!pregnancy relationship with a pervy/deadly demon on the sidelines and a socially incompetent partner. There are just so many problems to deal with, I feel like you can do it, don't get me wrong, but they have to be addressed. I thought you were going to do flashbacks or something...

Yeah, they really do, I just, argh, I dunno, can't write everything that's in my mind and figure out everything else. Too many things, and it keeps evolving and auuugh. *flops* it's not a fic, it's a monster-verse. x____x

Would it help just to sit at a computer and type everything out in a stream of consciousness format, and then tweak it to each character's POV? Just brainstorm on a computer.

Also, I think a great number of your readers stalk your LJ anyway, so you can probably do what you want and most of us will know what is going on. (Although there is always that reader that is completely lost no matter what kind of notes you post or why.) I would do what makes you the most happy, be it filling in the gaps or not. Writers who are unhappy don't tend to write as much and as I said before, I'm greedy. (Plus, sulking Sasuke? Great fun! I imagine you'll do Gaara excellent, as you have such a wonderful grasp for all the characterizations you have done so far.)

A much greater number doesn't stalk it, though, and get everything through ffnet. And some of them of course only have alerts on teamwork-related stuff because they don't care about the rest, which is fair and good but then I bet some people won't see TW3 being updated and bitch up a storm because I'm not working on it at all zomg... *groans*

Eh, the problem with writing Gaara is that I really don't care much about him. It's going to be hard writing him. I'll have to start a cure of Sandsibs ficcage to get in the right frame of mind. XD Thank you for the vote of confidence, though.

Also, just to throw another idea out there, why not add the 'missing' bits in as they come to you? A lot of writers mess chronology like that. Think of it as a writing experiment. >>

Have you ever considered trying to write shorter chapters? I mean, I love the really long ones, but sometimes it feels like you pack so much info into just one that it takes you so long to write them that by the end of the chapter, your characters have developed in your head faster than they did on the actual story?

I don't know if that made sense.

It does, but it doesn't work with the way I write. ^^; It would only change the way the scenes are cut up and presented on ffnet. I would still write the exact same things and waste time typing up stuff while the rest happens in my head -- same thing. And I'd rather keep posting in big chunks than small ones because very often I have to go back a bit and edit or add things, so later things make sense; if I posted smaller chapters, it might be more often and make things less heavy for the reader, but I would have to retcon the hell out of things or keep going with bigger plotholes than there already are.

I'm trying to keep the size of the chapters down to around 15-25 pages for TW 3 but even then it doesn't change a thing; I still have to write everything I'd planned.

I love your writing in general, but anything Teamwork related makes me drop whatever else I SHOULD be doing in order to read. I have been late for work a few times thanks to that (my choice, not your fault). I like the idea of Teamwork 2.5, or ANY Teamwork fic for that matter. Whatever you will write, I will read. :)

The idea of Teamwork 2.5 sounds awesome! From the way you describe it, it doesn't sound like it'd be very long either, maybe 2-3 chapters? The Sakura hand thing, the ShikaTema thing and the jealous Sasuke (OMG WIN!!) thing.

So it'd be just like a little side fic that covers the major stuff you want down to be able to keep working on TW3.

And of course smexin is always good!! XD Will praise and worship for smexin!! XD

Either way, no matter how you decide to do it (flashback/TW2.5) I know it will be genius!

Well I'm glad you figured it out, that hopefully will help you get out of your block. I really do enjoy the friendship/romance/sex aspects of their relationship more than the strategical bits of fighting, etc.

So I hope you get your ideas together and can write what and when you want to!
