Okay, trusty F-list. I need your help to puzzle out something. (caveat: People have a right to ship what they want, or hate or like any character they want ~~even for DID YOU READ THE MANGA PROPERLY reasons~~) But.

Riddle me this:

1) Sasuke is an asshole, a dirty traitor, and an utter prick, who deserves to die alone, preferably in a fire,
2) Naruto deserves SOOOO much better and SasuNaru is an utterly horrible pairing because Sasuke hurts Naruto all the time, tried to KILL HIM, and doesn't give a shit at the best of times,
3) Itachi/Naruto OTP!!! nnnghsocute. X333333333

I was still okay till I hit Itachi/Naruto and then my brain crashed and had to reboot.

Yeah, I have no problem with the Sasuke opinion, I mean, he IS an asshole and a lot of people wouldn't forgive him. (I just wouldn't choose to chat with this person, is all. Fandom's big enough for two.)

But bashing Sasuke to hell and back with such righteous indignation and contempt...

... and then going on to happily ship ItaNaru.

I would even be happy to accept that the two issues are totally unrelated in the person's brain but. The posts. They do not read that way.

Someone missed a big step in the leap of logic there. Unless this person also believes Itachi is OMGINNOCENT and a FLUFFYBUNNYRLY because he didn't actually kill the clan and it was a trick, and he saved Naruto's life a bunch of times when Naruto was very tiny and small TRUFAX.

It kinda weirds me out how her opinion on Sasuke seems to be based on canon -- albeit she concentrates on the bad side and ignores the redeeming bits. Fair enough, it's not sufficiently redeeming for a lot of people and Sasuke's still not really asking to be forgiven anyway.

But then in the same post, same topic, she goes on with bwee itanaru otp.

I see nothing wrong with liking fanonized, SEMEuke formatted pairings. Well, it's wrong for ME but not for everyone. Or being a secret fan of the "Itachi is a nice guy deep down" theory -- much like Sasuke using Sexy no Jutsu, it's got no chance to ever be canon, but boy can it be hawt to imagine anyway. But ummmmmmm. HOW COME ITACHI GETS REFORMATTED INTO DARKLY HANDSOME NICE GUY AND SASUKE INTO ANTICHRIST IN THE SAME BREATH IN A THREAD DISCUSSING THE MANGA. I mean I understand how one might want an antagonist for their fanonized version of a pairing, but DO YOU REMEMBER THAT FANON VERSION DOESN'T EXIST ANYWHERE OUTSIDE OF YOUR HEAD DDD;

I'm pretending number 3 doesn't exits. Unfortunately, my brain fries every time I try to contemplate 'that which does not exist'.

So to save my brain cells from electrocution I'm only going to concentrate on the first two.

Yes, Sasuke is a traitor and has done some very bad things. Yes, most people would consider that Naruto does 'deserve better'.

That doesn't mean they can't get together.

Naruto has shown a remarkable capacity for forgiveness, so I'm sure he'd forgive Sasuke (eventually at least). Also, Naruto may deserve better, that doesn't mean he may want better, love/lust/like doesn't always work that way. As for Sasuke, he's a bit of an ass, so if he decided he wanted to be with Naruto, he'd probably (at least) try despite his previous actions.

Heh ^^ yeah, that's what I think except said even better. ♥

People who hate Sasuke and think he absolutely NEVAR can get with Naruto/Sakura because of his faults kind of forget that THEY might hate it, but Naruto and Sakura have proven quite extensively that they don't give much of a fuck. Hell, for Naruto, Sasuke is as good as it gets, and he doesn't care if everyone thinks he's got a skewed sense of perspective. ♥

It gets me anew every time I see it. Every damn time. I always have this insane urge to flail wildly at them sputter "But but but...!" and gesticulate at Itachi and his canon characterization.

Itachi is a member of what is essentially a terrorist organization, the main goal of which is apparently to create a bomb using bijuu, the only way to obtain which is to rip them from their carriers. This process is well known to kill said characters. Therefore, Itachi is in fact actively trying to kill Naruto on a regular basis.

How is this better than trying to kill your best friend to obtain an ability that apparently requires you to kill the person closest to you, and in the end being completely unable to do it? How? Really, I need someone to explain this to me. It makes absolutely no sense.

That's what I'm wondering, yes. Guhh.

Bashing people for whatever reason is bad. very bad. But I confess there are some people I might enjoy watching in secret when canon gets around to their specific HAHAHAHAHAHA NO moments.

Because Itachi is obviously so much nicer than Sasuke. XD.He's just after Naruto to protect him from evil Sasuke.

I kind of lurked about the ItaNaru fandom for a while, so I've seen this quite a bit. My only explanation is that this person is between 14 and 17, saw Itachi's flowing Pantene Pro V hair and pretty painted finger nails and immediately thought "OMG he uses the same body care products as me! I can relate!". And from there the fluffy-bunny Itachi who's the bestest most sweetest BF in all the LAND was born.

Or, that's my way of rationalizing so this will stop hurting my brain.

Well, destroying Sasuke's life was OBVIOUSLY done because Sasuke is a total asshole and deserved it. Even though Sasuke only becomes asshole after the massacre, but really, who cares about such small details?
So really, Itachi is a good guy, and all he wants is to avenge Naruto for all the sorrow Sasuke put him through.

Hahahaha! I once watched someone go on about how he disliked Sasuke: for betraying his village, for betraying his friends, for trying to kill Naruto, for joining a criminal who's out to destroy Konoha, etc. etc. Then this person, in the same post, announced that his favorite character was Itachi.

Isn't it obvious?! Sasuke was Narutized and then ditched him for appearances' sakes (Avenger was so last year anyways). Itachi has yet to be Narutized and only needs a loving beatdown to show him that there's more to life than eyeballs and killing! Really, it's all Sasuke's fault for being such a tease to both of them. "oooh am i your friend or not?!" "oooh you wan my eyeballs!?"

This is why, as shallow as it is, I tend to avoid fics with pairing tags I don't enjoy. It's bad enough that logic and reasoning aren't very prevalent in the pairings that do make sense much less the ones that are beyond crack.

Yeah, it's what I do too. But I thought I was safe; it wasn't in a fic at all, I made the mistake of browsing a large and rather well-known Naruto-manga message board. She has indeed written fic for the pairing, but it's rather peripheral to the logic failure in non-fic discussion. x__x

The popular Ita/Naru with a side of Sasuke bashing doesn't really bother me. Fiction is in great part about wish fulfillment I think. What i find wierd is how people mistake their wish fulfillment with Kishimoto's.

Ah, but see, Sasuke 'betrayed' Naruto (obviously the author's favourite), while Itachi betrayed Sasuke (whom the author hates) - which basically means that Itachi and the author are on the same wavelenght and understand each other enough to, uh. Both fantasize about Naruto? Or something.

...hell, I'm still trying to understand HOW people can seriously think that Naruto/Sakura are giving their all to bring Sasuke back only in the misguided belief that the OTHER wants him back (but really, as soon as they realize their REAL FEELINGS they'll abandon him asap)! *shrug* Fandom can be funny - and annoying, sometimes.

What bugs me the most is the traced-from-canon-pictures OTP icon. With added blush. I don't know why, it just does. I can cope with the romanticized japanese fanarts, but not the canon-anime-looking icon.

Secretly-good!Itachi fangirls will never give up. After all he could have been mindfucked by Madara, who is the TRUE evil. >.> (I admit I have something of a hankering for what-if not-quite-his-fault ItaSasu fic, because there would be MASSIVE trust issues on Sasuke's part, and it would still NOT mean that Itachi processes emotions in the same way a normal human being does... but the way fandom plays with the issue, I'm gonna have to write it myself. *sigh*)

Actually this just makes me LOL all over myself. Cause everything you listed has been part of the reason I avoid don't really consider myself part of Naruto fandom (maybe I'm lying to myself?)

I have to point out that #3 makes me cringe the most though. Much as a love Sasuke, I do understand that lots of people prefer their characters happy, and not too complex, and kinda dense, and painfully optimistic, and boring--okok I'll stop >.> I actually like Naruto just fine， which is why it bugs me when I come across fluffy Itachi/Naruto where they wuvvv each other and Itachi is misunderstood and Sasuke is an asshole for being the one misunderstanding him （even though Itachi traumatized and mentally tortured him when he was still this adorable round faced cherub I seriously wanted to kidnap and cuddle ZOMGCUUUUTE！ *spazzes for a moment） Itachi/Naruto， not so much- it actually makes me cringe ：/

As for #1， I couldn’t tell ya cause ummm pretty baffled myself。 #2- Sasuke doesn‘t hurt Naruto all the time， am I not remembering the manga correctly？ I mean， the first time they seriously fight was when they were bouncing around in that valley。 Before that， it was just really intense competition。 And you can‘t just say Sasuke doesn’t give a shit。 He doesn‘t like to show his emotions but it’s obvious he has them- no one lacking emotions would be as focused and driven as he is。 And don‘t forget， he threw himself in front of lots of scary needles to save Naruto， basically giving his life-- even if he did live through it。 So there！

On a side note，thank you for being one of the few who does not girlify either one of our boys。 THANＫYOU！ I should know better by now but I always peek at new fics when I’m dumb enough to blindly go searching through fanfiction。net *shudders*
