teamwork babblething...

My Teamwork bunnies just informed me that it's been way too long since Kyuubi possessed Naruto and was allowed to run around a bit.

But after the end of Teamwork2, even if Naruto doesn't go "WTF no way you bastard-traitor", the ANBU will have a problem with it. So. Hrrm. *ponderponder* Maybe a melding ficlet would be enough... >_> And I do have this Inuzuka clan w/Kiba&Hinata scene I had planned... Problem being, of course, that this is pretty much all I know about what actually happens. I can't see the scene at all. Why must Kiba and Hinata inspire me so little. T__T Any suggestions as to how Inuzuka-mommy can teach Naruto how to use his senses and instincts? Examples? actions?

Also, I still need a transition scene for Sasuke. I did Sakura's with Tsunade, I need to write Naruto and the Inuzuka... Who could Sasuke deal with that's not a member of his team? I started something, but 1) it was introspection, and got kinda boring after the first twenty lines or so, and 2) it was about Sasuke and dead people. How pitiful can you get, Sasuke. Do you really know no one else. XD

I like some of it, but I have no earthly clue where it's going. i've been poking at it for the last three months and I still have no clue, so I'm going to post the draft here and if you people get an idea, maybe you can tell me. Because otherwise I'll have to scrap it. ;_; (i'm not adverse to cutting out rambly bits, amputating the end, or anything like that. Where does it start to drag on for you? How could I fix it? What could actually HAPPEN, even if it's not actually an action but only a new thought in Sasuke's head?)

There are no ghosts in this house. None of his, at any rate. There's Uchiha Hideyoshi; Uchiha Minako; Shin; Isamu; Kaede. Nothing but names on paper.

He cannot tell if they would have begrudged his use of their home. They're smiling in most of the pictures he found; so he tells himself they wouldn't have -- too much -- and goes about his day. He lights incense every day when he wakes anyway.

It would be easier to live with if he didn't have to cross half the district every time he wants to leave the house. The first street is fine; he never used to explore this boring side of the district much. At the corner is an old well, with stone benches in a half-circle around. When the benches weren't taken over by crabby old people, he used to climb at the end of the first and leaped his way across.

Next is the street where the ice cream man had his stand. The garden with the huge dog. His mother's best friend's house; they used to joke about marrying Sasuke to her daughter, to the horror of both children. Next was a tiny square with bushes that were perfect hiding places; they're overgrown enough to make their own jungle, now, except that half are withered.

Depending on which gate to the rest of the village he wishes to use, he can either walk past the piece of Uchiha training grounds that Itachi claimed as his own and the lake where Sasuke practiced Katon, or the charred remnants of his home. Most of the time, it's more practical to walk by his home.

Sakura has developed an inordinate fondness for a kind of sweets she says she can find nowhere but in the other direction. Naruto teases her about her hips; Sakura hits him, and says he deserves it for getting between a pregnant woman and her cravings.

Sasuke doesn't know what his ghosts would say about his two lovers and their bizarre, immoral arrangement.

So in the evenings, when all the training of the day is done, when Naruto is off with Iruka or Jiraiya or Kiba or whoever else, and Sakura is off with Ino, or her parents, Sasuke sits in front of his unknown cousins' little shrine and wonders about his own parents.

It isn't something he does often, thinking about his parents. It's hard to remember them without remembering how they were taken away, and then his focus shifts onto revenge, not remembrance. But this is not the appropriate time for murderous, blind rages.

If they had lived...

His father... A proud man, respectful of traditions, but not one who let rumors cow him either. He would have disapproved of Team Seven's arrangement -- wouldn't have opposed Sasuke marrying outside the clan, but wouldn't have liked the fact that they don't know who the father of the child is. He might have looked down on Sakura for that, even though it wasn't her fault... No. Sasuke doesn't like thinking that. His father was a just man.

Hopefully he wouldn't have begrudged Sasuke's friendship with Naruto, though he might personally have preferred his son to keep his distances from the demon carrier; but he would never have wanted to hear about anything more than that. As long as Sasuke was married and had children, as long as he did his duty to the bloodline, his father probably would have pretended that any male lovers Sasuke had didn't exist. Not that Sasuke would ever want to tell him. His disappointment would have hurt.

His mother... Sweet, caring, perpetually smiling. She would have been concerned -- probably pretty much for the same reasons Sakura's mother was so worried. She would have been sad about the way people might shun them...

And if she were still here to worry about, Sasuke might consider asking Naruto to never be more than their secret lover, the ex-teammate they happen to still be on good terms with, just for his mother not to be shunned because of him.

The point is moot anyway. He doesn't have to make this decision. The thought of denying Naruto's importance to protect his reputation, of all things, makes him sneer in distaste. If there is one thing that could prompt him to forego his pride and go along with public displays of affection, it's spite.

Only consideration for his people's feelings places higher; but his parents are beyond that, and of the only four people who still matter, only Sakura and the child might be embarrassed, and even then it depends how and when. Naruto would laugh and reciprocate if Sasuke did something blatant in public, and nothing fazes Kakashi.

His mother might have accepted, though. As long as her son was happy.

Overall, he's not really happy; but that's nothing out of the ordinary. There are still problems to fix and jutsu to learn and progress to make and his brother to kill.

Ultimately, his parents aren't here, cannot judge what his life has become; what they might have thought of their earnest, innocent son growing up to be a disreputable, antisocial, untrustworthy pervert is somewhat irrelevant. If they were here -- even if the rest of the clan wasn't -- his life would be so different he doubts he would recognize himself; but they aren't, and he has no time to lose with what-ifs.

(... really, REALLy not sure about that bit. It's cute enough, but it's kinda drifting off-topic... ~___~)

He's not happy all the time, but they help him not be down or angry all the time either. He doesn't need them; he could do without them. But they're here and they're not going to let him go, and now, with the child, he can't let them go either. Even if it's not his. There are people who would love to get their hands on the Kyuubi's carrier's spawn. He'll kill them first, if Naruto doesn't.

Sakura smiles more these days; sometimes Sasuke catches himself smiling back. Naruto is insatiable in bed. Or out of bed. Everywhere.

The thought of losing his teammates makes him sick.

He shouldn't have stayed, after Naruto stopped him at the waterfall. He should have escaped from the hospital the second he could walk again. They're chaining him to them, to the village. They're dulling his resolve. They're not letting him hate enough.

Sasuke lives in terror of the day when Itachi will fix that particular mistake for him.

He knows this will be enough; this will be the one thing he's still missing. If Itachi kills them, Sasuke will kill Itachi, no ifs or buts, no "not strong enough yet", no fancy tricks. He's sure of it -- sure that that's the only guaranteed method. If Sakura and Naruto die, then Itachi will die too.

And then Sasuke will follow.

He used to be unable to enjoy his present because his dreams were in his past; now he can't enjoy it because his future holds nightmares. He hates his teammates a little, he thinks. His goal wasn't so impossible when he had nothing left to lose.

Which people's? *confused*
and shouldn't it be a , not a ; ? (though it still makes sense with the ;, since the next part starts with but, wouldn't you write a ,? *is not the greatest at grammer&is unsure*)

ooooh!
*thought people referred to his parents*
*feels slightly stupid*

... If it would actually fit, I would say having Sasuke and Sakura's mom interact in a positive way. But then I remembered that you sorta did that and it wasn't really positive XD; But yeah. There's always Jiraya, too. Cause it's random, not expected, and Jiraya knows a bit these sort of things.

Ummm... On Naruto.... Geeze o_o; Let me type out some thought process XD;; See if it gets anything flowing for you or for me:

Instincts and senses are all about trusting your body and your gut. Since Naruto has two different sets, he needs to learn how to separate them and control both sets, right?

The only way I can actually think of him being able to control them is to let some of it loose (with someone close by to help contain it if it gets too out of control), so that he can get a feel for it. He does learn better by doing, right? @_@

Geeze, I wish I could help you better. -_-;

[identity profile] yira-heerai.livejournal.com 2007-07-17 10:20 pm (UTC)(link)
That... I don't know @_@ There's always Anko, but she'd want nothing to do with him. There's Tsunade or Shizune. What you have is good, too, of course, but when I'm writing I like to have all sorts of different options to chose from so @_@

They would probably prefer Naruto's training to be kind of away from Konoha, so the Forest of Death would probably be a pretty damn good idea. Inuzuka-mommy could plant stuff for him to hunt in the forest- tell him to take a whiff while he's part foxy and go. It's probably how they train the dog-nins too.

And umm... the claws. Could definitely be used for traction. I can see her doing a taijutsu thing and telling him that instead of using chakra, use his claws to stop and to help him gain momentum- the Inuzuka do that when they do the Down on All Fours, I think. It gives them extra speed, I think- extra traction.

And umm... You could summarize a hearing exercise (if that's been heightened) or how to use the fox's eyes.

@_@

[identity profile] yira-heerai.livejournal.com 2007-07-17 10:37 pm (UTC)(link)
XDD That would rock. I can imagine him kinda sulking about it afterwards. He could never ever talk about it Sasuke cause he knows he wouldn't be able to live it down. EVER.

Kiba: I don't know why he's so sulky over it. It's not even that bad. Akamaru was trained like that and look at him!
Sasuke: ...Your mother is training him like she would one of the dog-nins?

I dunno XD I'm being silly.

I'm glad I could help though! :D :D ♥

[identity profile] yira-heerai.livejournal.com 2007-07-17 10:48 pm (UTC)(link)
XD YES. God, what Sasuke would do with that information.. XDDDDD

*glees* ♥ *-----*

I like it. I don't think anything needs to be cut. It might be better as a side ficlet instead of part of the main fic, but I like it.

[identity profile] complexphoenix.livejournal.com 2007-07-18 05:02 pm (UTC)(link)
The place where it already ends feels like a natural stopping point. It's a good, angsty, ominous note, and it wraps things up nicely. It doesn't feel like it needs anything more.

[identity profile] joisbishmyoga.livejournal.com 2007-07-17 10:10 pm (UTC)(link)
I think it's kinda appropriate -- yes, sad and pathetic, but appropriate -- that Sasuke's only got ghosts. But something about the level of anger isn't... quite enough. I think.

How to use Kyuubi's senses and instincts. Humans are mainly visual creatures: if I recall correctly, 85% of description in creative writing should be sight. Then 10% sound, then 5% taste and smell, with touch kept mostly for intimacy (not necessarily sexual). That approximates the human experience.

Ninja, of course, are going to be taught to skew the ratios (just look at the Sound nin!), but it won't be anywhere near what a canine's is. Naruto's not likely to have realized just how much stronger and more reliable his sense of smell is compared to a regular ninja, for example. So I would think that a significant portion of Inuzuka training involves blindfolds.

See... you've already established in your mind (if not in Teamwork canon) that Sasuke's not going to be content with how things are until the baby is actually born. It's all in that side story you wrote about how he shifted from being an avenger to being a protector. That's when he finally comes to grip with things.

Jiraya has fought Orochimaru for years, and from what I've seen (Tsunade beat him off with a stick, and they're on their way back to the Hidden Leaf Village) he's going to continue fighting him, but will probably never be able to defeat him. (At least he didn't in real canon; what happened in Teamwork canon again?) If there's anything that Jiraya does have in common with Sasuke, it's having a nigh-unbeatable opponent and the advantages of waiting for the right moment.

His goal wasn't so impossible when he had nothing left to lose. <- Oh, Gods, Asuka!!! *twitching from the awesome, moving, deep and OH!*

You're just...you write the most amazing introspection ever. I can't imagine how you found this even remotely boring. It's interesting, analytical, introspective, in-character, brings up the Uchihas, cute Sakura and Naruto and Sasuke interaction, you throw Kakashi in there (and I'm sure it's because you wanted to light up my day), bring Sasuke's fears and feelings right to the surface, and you do it all with fabulous wording and writing style. I don't know what else to say but that i will be reading this again, probably in "EDITOR-MODE!" and I'll still be singing praises. ;p

Can't offer any real criticism but I have to say I like it. I agree that it should be used as an interlude chapter instead of a main part.

... why do I have this hilarious mental image of Sasuke and Sakura with one of those dog whistles -- the high pitched ones only dogs can hear -- and using it to train Naruto?

It maybe wanders off a little when he starts thinking about his family (particularly those who aren't his parents--I think him angsting about his parents at a time when he's about to be one himself is fairly relevant), but I kind of like it anyway.

It's true that Sasuke doesn't really have anyone anymore to be close to and who can give him a paradigm shift or whatever (besides his team)... but what if he had a Moment that came from some unlikely quarter? I might just be crazy but I kind of like the idea that Sasuke, with a lack of Special People and people who he trusts, could find himself a little as a result of interacting with someone he's not very close to--maybe Neji or Lee or something. I dunno, it could be cute. He really just needs to lighten the hell up, anyway. :D

I'd like to see Ino getting on his case more, too. XD

Hmmmm.

[identity profile] cerise-anouk.livejournal.com 2007-07-18 04:14 am (UTC)(link)
you're right, Sasuke needs something to evolve or whatever. He's the only one without something to train him. This part's good, it shows the frustration he's feeling about the fact that he's not growing as a ninja at the moment. The only thing I can think of right now, that doesn't include Kakshi or ditching them for Sound, is him magically finding some super-secret hidden OH MY GOD scroll(s) with headings like, 'Ancient Uchiha Fighting Styles', 'FORBIDDEN UCHIHA SCROLLS: NO TOUCHY', or 'How to Kill your Clan Killing Brother 101.' That just happen to be like a bazillion years old and thought lost long ago. Something along those lines. And he needs to find them when he's REALLY frustrated and on the edge, but entirely random. Say when the threesome's fixing the house their staying in or something.

"...magically finding some super-secret hidden OH MY GOD scroll(s)"

I would love to see that! Sasuke looks down at the newly-found scroll, tosses his head back, and laughs bitterly. He left his village and crossed the continent to gain the strength to kill his brother, and the key was really there in his own family's compound all along.

As always, Asuka, you're writing is addictive. <3

Who could Sasuke deal with that's not a member of his team?

I have no clue why no one has mentioned him yet.

What about Ibiki? I think he would fit. He's in charge of Intelligence after all. He has spies, intel, and jutsu most ANBU wouldn't know. Also, Ibiki's brother in nukenin so he is a person who is capable of understanding where Sasuke's issues with his brother are coming from. Also, Ibiki understand how the mind works. Certain abilities of the Sharingan involve understanding how a mind works and how to shatter them. Ibiki could help him with those aspects of his blood limit. Excuse my moment of poetry, but I think Ibiki would be able to teach Sasuke how to strengthen his mind, body, and soul. Ibiki could offer Sasuke an entirely different path that would allow him to control himself and his future in ways that would otherwise be impossible.

Sakura is instructed by a medical genius and Naruto by a spunky old man with a heart bigger than his own. I just think you should consider Sasuke coming into his own under the guide of a man who lives in shadow but is not overcome by darkness. Consider Ibiki?

sheer awesomeness

Sasuke is wonderfully angsty - you write him so well! I have some ideas, but I emailed rather than post #o.o# (Ibiki - fantastic idea!)

The three of them have managed to create the whole seal thing through crazy research and scroll help...and before the big night, other than their teachers, no one had a clue. Ibiki with be interested on recruiting him for the department when the report passes the Hokage's desk. Legally, it would have been his job to keep an eye on Sasuke for a few years to make sure the kid doesn't go traitor. So for the three of them to manage to hide something of so large a scale from his agents...it interests him. Maybe it's time he meets the Uchiha to at least find out how he managed to keep this secret.

[identity profile] nev-longbottom.livejournal.com 2007-07-19 09:33 am (UTC)(link)
Ah, I spoke with a mutual acquaintance of ours who suggested that Ibiki conducts all the yearly psychological profiling/checkup to make sure no one is close to breaking.

I agree with the statement

*If they were here -- even if the rest of the clan wasn't -- his life would be so different he doubts he would recognize himself; but they aren't, and he has no time to lose with what-ifs.*

He and Naruto would never have met in the cutesy chibi flashback and Sasuke would have graduated from the academy way before all his age-mates.

btw- I did not think this was boring nor too rambly. (maybe you can have Sasuke find a little enlightenment from Kakashi, they are pretty close)

[identity profile] midnigh-unicorn.livejournal.com 2007-07-18 06:22 pm (UTC)(link)
Naruto could be having issues with smelling garbage or something again and Kiba notices and...I don't know, offers to teach him to isolate smells or something? Hinata happens to be hanging with him at the time? Sasuke can have a moment with Kakashi, although I haven't got any better ideas on what the heck they'd be doing and/saying.
(I'm so helpful, I know)
