So er I should be working on Teamwork, yeah? especially since the chapter is almost complete and everything.

And I want to, really. I just, er. Have a problem.

At first, the seal wasn't supposed to take so long. Hell, in the first draft it should have happened in Teamwork 1, when they were still hiding in the forest. It made more sense, too -- stressed out, not thinking, Kyuubi all "hay I have A SOLUTION rly" and them being yeeeahright but having no real choice and BAM, seal.

But in the end it wound up not fitting, and blah other logical problems, so I pushed it back. And then stuff KEPT HAPPENING in the crack, and events that were supposed to be quick meaningless notes became chapter-wide events (re: dinner with the Harunos, for example XD), and in the end there were tons and tons and tons of set-up and build-up for the seal! And it's the end of Teamwork 2 too! Surely, something stressful and dangerous and HUGE should happen! How lame would it be if everything works out without a hitch? Uber lame, that's how lame.

And, er, I only recently got the idea about that.

I have no clue how to go about writing it, but I'm sure eventually I can figure it out. But... Yeah, it's taking a little while. I have the notion, but it's like one sentence. I'm just not seeing the scene yet, and if I want to make it powerful, I really can't just wing it. *sigh*

So yeah, all that set up and I don't know where I'm going with it.

But there is something y'all can help me with!

Lying down is more sexy, but Naruto's angle of view will be hampered. I'm still not sure he needs to see what's going on -- what with not knowing how it's going to go on -- but. Hrrrm.

... Maybe Sakura can lay down and he sits up. But then I probably need a good bullshit -- err, reason why, on a mechanics-of-seals point of view...

edit: I'm STUPID. Why am I not USING his frustration at not being able to see anything. Got an idea, thanks everyone! Now let's see if I can find a way to write that idea. I have the notion, now as to the concrete set-up... hmmmm. ^^

Couldn't you have the best of both worlds for Naruto? If he's lying down, but propped up on his elbows, he can still see what's going on and is still in a somewhat vulnerable/sexy position. Sakura could remain lying down. :o)

Hmm. I dunno, kind of thinking the lines painted on him have to connect to the ground, more or less. That's how it was for sasuke's seal and neji's healing, I think. *ponderponder*

well, lying down would make sense because I would imagine that painting seals on a person's body is much easier when there aren't any random skin folds that come with sitting up. And I agree with this cindelius person that if Naruto is propped up on his elbows he would still be able to see what's going on...and no weird skin folds! W00T!

I can see Sasuke yelling at Naruto repeatedly because he keeps trying to sit up and see what's going on while he should be lying still and not smudging the ink. XD ELBOWS FTW~

i know it's not one of your suggestions - but what if they're standing an sasuke has to kneel in front of them (i know, it's not like sasuke to kneel on the ground - but in this position he'd have a good fiew on their stomaces and naruto can ogle on sakura as much as he like to ^^)

Nah, it will take too long and they'd have to be too still, besides all sealing seen so far has been shown with the casters sitting and the target either sitting or laying down. Standing in the same spot for that long would be too much of a strain.

When Kakashi did Sasuke's seal for the chuunin exam, wasnt Sasuke sitting and Kakashi standing over him?

yeah? Kakashi could move around, Sasuke couldn't. Besides sasuke's seal was on his neck, so it wasn't affected much by the bunched up factor.

If I remember correctly, Sasuke was tied down? I think he was tied to a chair. Or maybe it was a pole coming out of the ground. I just remember there was someting behind him...? DX

XD;;; no, he wasn't. he was sitting on the floor in the middle of a room with pillars, with his hands at his sides and his legs slightly folded up. Kakashi was standing behind him; sasuke leaned against his leg when he was done. You might be mixing it up with the time kakashi tried to give sasuke a Talk to prevent him from deciding to leave by tying him to a tree with wire while he talked, but there was no seal involved then. ^^

Hmm, Sakura lying down and Naruto sitting or standing up, I'd say. He's after all rather too hyperactive to just lie down and relax unless he's REALLY tired, especially in a situation like this, when they might all be a bit too nervous about making a mistake... As for a reason, well, how about "It's easier for the chakra to find it's way to the seal on Sakura the first time if you're sitting up, Naruto. After that, the chakra will always automatically find it's way to her seal no matter what. But for the first time, the time when the seal is created, it's better if you sit/stand up"... <_<. Or something like that, anyway...

XD;;;; Yeah, but WHY would the position make it easier? I'd need a better reason than that.

Lying down for seal work seem to be canon for Naruto...but the ritual smex afterwards can be done in any position.

btw is there anyway for Sasuke to become a part of the seal as well. Maybe at the insistence of kyuubi and that could cause the tension that would increase the excitement at the end which you were looking for.

Nah, Sasuke's type of chakra and coils is too specialized for that, Kyuubi's chakra would burn his coils. Sakura's type, being ordinary and not bred for any specific purpose, is more robust, and she's better at converting and manipulating chakra, which is why she can tolerate Kyuubi's chakra -- but even so, there needs to be a bazilion levels on the transfer seal to convert and filter the chakra as much as it can be converted and filtered. Really there's probably a good reason why only newborns have been shown being sealed so far. Older people might not have the flexibility needed to adapt to it.

Besides, Sasuke would really hate tapping into naruto's power instead of doing the job himself. hell, even Sakura doesn't like it, it's just that she has no choice.

And it's really not that perfect a solution, there are a lot of drawbacks. Amongst other things, since it's filtered through naruto's normal (blue) chakra first, it risks making him slightly weaker, more awkward/imperfect with jutsus, and more vulnerable to kyuubi's influence. So really by saving herself she's endangering him just a tiny bit. He wouldn't notice if he's not doing anything strenuous at the time, but if he's fighting for his life he'll notice the difference. ^^;

... I just like to bullshit my way through everything, really. XD The more people poke at the holes in my reasoning and the more I can play pretend like I knew what I was doing right from the start. XD;

In other words, please continue to offer your suggestions, they really help a lot. Even wen you don't magically guess where I wanted to go, it makes me think and develop whatever vague notions were swimming at the back of my brain and that's great. ^__^

I see Sasuke getting frustrated, trying to get Naruto to lie flat and still while Naruto keeps grumbling and trying to half-lean up to see what Sasuke is doing. However, Naruto knows how important this is, so he eventually gives in. He doesn't need to see everything, nor do we. Oh, and I hope the brush tickles, and they squirm.

I'm starting to feel rather bad for Naruto. He's usually the "In Your Face" cheer everyone up, whether they like it or AH! Why? Why did you stab me Sasuke?! ....stupid bastard...

So when everyone is at their most nervous and frightened, he won't be able to touch them to calm them down. Can't knock Sasuke off him high horse or hug the tension out of Sakura.

Yeah, you're right, he must be pretty bummed about it. ;_; Sasuke's the only one who's allowed to move around and he's not going to touch him any more than necessary.

See they need to be on their backs to avoid skin wrinkles and let them keep really still for long enough and of course a seal that complicated is probably big assed and needs to extend on to the floor. So what if Naruto uses a mirror? A decent sized handmirror that Sakura would probably have, would do the trick. Sasuke could even bitch that it was getting in his way. Eeep Sasuke bitching. That way Naruto could perv Sakura, she could get embarrassed causing Sasuke to order Naruto to leave her alone, Naruto could pout and complain about not getting any fun. Sakura could try to whack him and get growled by Sasuke. Uh, never mind. En gros, un miroir.

Okay, so how about Sakura lying down while she gets painted on while Naruto sits watching, and then he would lay down to get his markings. I can just envision being able to sit still for longer. Also some ideas to think about are if the chakra from Naruto would have to first be linked to Sakura, then he would need to be lying down from the beginning, or if it's live-chakra, would it be safer to attach the seal to Sakura first, leaving Naruto free to leer?

Hey, what kind of stalker-fangirl would I be if I didn't help out every once in a while?
Okay... admittedly a better stalker.

So, you've gotten plenty of down/up suggestions, so how about I lend my idea for maybe an interesting twist for the sealing scene, and you can twist and turn and mutilate it to better serve your ends? Because really, it's a little Hollywood and maybe not as Narutoish, but still.
Anyway.
Say that Sasuke's doing the seal, as directed, with a little help from Kyuubi (I know, I know, stay with me), and everything looks find, but he's still all "I've seen this before" as he's drawing. Several sexual innuendos and jokes and squee moments transpire as things go on but they keep getting drowned out by that nagging imoulse. The seal is finally completed, seemingly without a hitch and, lacking for a decent response what with all the stress that didn't actually DO anything, Naruto and Sakura hug, and with the motion it takes to invite Sasuke in it becomes obvious-the seal has a modified summoning seal hidden INSIDE of it, on that's made by the positioning of the two bodies together and requiring just the slightest amount of unfocused chakra!
So then Kyuubi pops out of it and's making like he's going to unleash snarly vengence on the village, and then come back for it's young, and Sauke jumps on it and tells him to GET THE FUCK BACK IN THERE!, eventually splitting the prissy bitch in threes and diviying it up amongst the three of them through sheer force of will/semi-meditative state.
I think that it's kind of suprising and also can lead to characterness. Go nuts.

How about being on their sides? That way Naruto can see and they'll still be in sexy positions. I can come up with reasoning for this too, if you need reasoning.
