ALRIGHT. (ofic babble)

SO. I'm poking at my space mermaids again. And I have decided I need to introduce another main character to get things moving.

Alas, so far, the only thing I know about this guy is that he's "a 'space pirate' with definite jerk-like tendencies". I'm not sure he's really a pirate, or a "salvage guy" or somewhere in between, or hell, probably both and then some. He's part of a crew, but I don't know how high he is in the crew or even how big said crew is.

Kinda mocking, sarcastic, not that patient, and not very communicative... To oppose Liadan who is adorably serious and earnest, and Arun who is friendly, chatty and usually can't stay serious ten minutes. (they're both extremely curious as well. The new guy, not so much -- he has his own ambitions, and if he steps on people's toes, oh well. He doesn't want to know much about other people, if it can't be of use to him, as opposed to Arun and Liadan who want to know for the sake of knowing.)

... oh hey. It's starting to get more defined. SHINY. *_*

... Why am I thinking Kanda from D.gray-man. Or sasuke. NO. Kinda sorta same type, but not a clone. Besides a clone of either of them would have no reason to eventually care about pollution and civil rights and whatnot.

...hell, Liadan wouldn't understand the "rights" part. There's no global governent and basically the merpeople operate on a "if you're strong enough to take and keep it, it's yours" basis. Whereas Arun's government is all "if the people cannot make informed decisions on what to do with their natural ressources, these need to be held in trust until such a time as blahblah".

And the pirates are all "but they're not even USING ALL THAT SHIT"

And the merpeople would be all "... yeah. what the hell do you want it for anyway? do whatevar you want dude, it's not like we can eat those stupid rocks."

And then Arun's people would be all "nonono, you don't get how valuable it is, don't tell them they can take it just like that -- HEY YOU I SAW YOU PICK UP THAT ROCK YOU PUT IT BACK DOWN RIGHT NOW MISTER."

I'm still not sure how he meets with Arun and Liadan. The planet's kind of big and the previous metals are strewn all over the place anyway. So either he crashes... no, too cliche, besides how likely is it that there would happen to be an island... Or they (New Guy and crew) land on an island, and then they would end up with a colony of two-tails... What happens then? ;.; How mean are they really? *pets ze two-tails gently* Who are the bad guys? Just a random merry little band of ore-stealers? Maybe they want to visit the sunken cities? Or are they with an EEEVIL corporation, in which case they would benefit from making sure this world is never classified as "protected world" BUT ARUN ALREADY SENT HIS MESSAGE, BUT ONLY A WEEK AGO. D; So they wouldn't already KNOW about the merpeople, or if they know they're not going to get there anytime soon. Or was New Guy's crew hanging around looking for places to loot and they caught Arun's message on the way because they were monitoring archeology/biology/explorator people in the quadrant or something? Or did they catch Evil Corporation's message and decided that they didn't care about the ore much because they don't have enough equipment, but they're gonna loot the cities before everything goes down? WHICH ONE SOUNDS MORE SHINY, PEOPLE. D:

-Also, I need to find out how long Liadan's world needs to have been abandoned for its society to change so much, and all memories of their origins reduced to "We came from the sky, but then the gods got angry and swallowed the lands, but one god loved us and gave us tails so we could save ourselves" which is really a typical legend.

-... I need a name for that snarky, assholic-but-not-pure-evil pirate-guy. Can't help but think I'll see him more clearly if I can find a name. And I've decided that all the names in this story need to include a color. XD For example Liadan means Gray Lady in Welsh (and surprise, she has gray hair/fins XD mmm original.) and Arun means reddish brown in sanskrit; and his family name, Zlatanec, is derived from zlato which means gold in slavic. As for Arun's friend Shyam Sunil, his names are Indian/Sanskrit and mean "dark, black, blue", and "very blue" respectively. XD

Problem is... Most names with a color in them are of celtic-ish origin. And I've decided that celtic names are for merpeople, since they descend from irish/scottish/otherkindapeoplefromthereish, so no touchies... And Sanskrit (and potentially slavic) are for Arun's world... Well, Slavic is probably a recently incorporated world, so mostly Sanskrit/Hindu are off limits unless I find a reason why the pirates come from his corner of the galaxy.

So. I need a name with a color in its meaning (or a metal that's known for being a certain color, like gold or copper, or a precious stone like opal or jade or whatever, or hell, even light/dark). Preferably one that doesn't sound too girly. I ransacked BehindtheName.com, but unless i've missed one, nothing seems to fit. ;___; heeeelp plz. ;__;
