ahahahahahahaha OH GOD. XD
Oh. I never do that usually but today I couldn't resist.
That girl is just. So. Cute.
-----------
For info, the whole rant was prompted by someone on
sasunaru posting... NARUSASU. *le gasp* UNLABELED narusasu, too. And when called on it, they retorted, a bit vehemently (dude, it was perfectly polite, but you could feel the urge to scream YOU MORONS underneath, it was that vehement rly), that it was the same damn pairing already and she refused to bow down to stereotypes she abhorred.
Wank about how *pulls out trusty bullshit translator -- which doesn't have to translate much* AxB IS NOT THE SAME AS BxA DAMN IT I IDENTIFY WITH NARUTO AND NOW BECAUSE OF YOU I HAVE READ HIM USING HIS PENIS!!!
(...)That's why when I see someone write something like, "Sasuke x Naruto and Naruto x Sasuke IS THE SAME DAMN PAIRING," I get a little ticked off. Because, sure, the pairing characters may be the same, but the characters themselves are different. Different personalities. Different motivations. You get the idea.
And if I , as a girl, identify more closely with a specific character (Re: Naruto), and like to project myself into the story I'm reading, then the positions of the characters during sex really do matter. Because as much as I like penis, I don't have one, and if Naruto is the one giving rather than taking, then I can't relate to the story as well as I'd like to. (...)
random bystander: Not a fan of Naruto, but I couldn't care less who's name comes first in a pairing, so long as everyone's in character. =/
Maybe this is something specific to your fandom I'm unaware of, though.
askerian: Of course it is. :DDD SasuNaru is the one where Sasuke is not a bastard but a... somewhat bastardly handsome prince, and Naruto is not a loveable but damn pissy dork, but a bubbly, pretty princess. NaruSasu is the one where Naruto is a charming, sexy rogue, and Sasuke isn't a contrary, pissy bastard but a shy, pretty princess. See? easy. :D
jennaland: (the original poster) Your critique only applies if you're dealing with stereotypes (of which, admittedly, there are many). There are good SasuNaru stories out there, an example being White, Surge Red by Sugahlei at http://www.fanfiction.net/s/2094041/1/, where the rival relationship is maintained.
askerian:*COUGH COUGH*
Different personalities.
I rest my case.

Dig a little deeper, honey, you're not quite six feet under yet. XD
And then there was
sarolynne's crack of AWESOME:
...Right, you're entitled to prefer whoever on top you want. Whatever. Your kink.
But perhaps you should consider, before saying that you like projecting yourself onto one character more than another, whether or not that projection is IC. Normally when someone writes a character OOC so that they can better picture themselves in their place? Yeah, that's called a Sue, and is generally frowned upon.
zing~
No, seriously, I'm a canon whore, but I don't care if people like fanon interpretations better because it hits their kink or whatever. But don't turn around and then say it's IC to put a goddamn wall between the two faces of the SAME PAIRING because being a goddamn fencesitter makes your poor readers end up having their self-insert fantasies ruined by cock. /unfair, exaggerated, rambly generalization ♥
If there's a lemon, fine, warnings are polite. But if there isn't, there shouldn't be a fucking difference. Or maybe labels should differentiate between sasunaru(canon) and sasunaru(fanon), so that everyone can find their kink without stumbling over each other. ~_~
Edit: she deleted it. Woe. ;_;
Oh well. WE STILL WIN. XD
IN OTHER, MORE SHINY NEWS Sarolynne just posted an InoNaruSaku NC-17 fic and it is TEH SEX. So go for it, yes. like now.

I'm still bitter that they took down the wanky post from SasuNaru, I was having so much fun with that!
Also, HI! :D

And good, because I'm an elitist bitch.
But at least you seem to have the dynamic down, so that's half of the fic taken care of. >D
urgh, you think blonde bothers you? I'M FRENCH. I know the english is eating that word until the gender doesn't matter anymore, but I keep whimpering anyway. Blonde is not for boys, ever ever ever. D:

So if she doesn't relate to a character with boy bits when the boy bits come into play, and doesn't like when a male character that's on the bottom of a yaoi 'ship is referred to as being male (Shock! Oh noes!), then why isn't she just reading het? There's a pretty easy way to avoid that extra penis, you know.
no subject
Now she's trying to retcon by saying that "different personalities" is just about how naruto and sasuke are different from each other. uhhhh. uh huh.

But it manages to be bad anyway on account of being flat, incoherent, and blandly OOC. Hurray!

I read it back then a few years ago, and I really liked it -- but almost more for what I imagined over it than for what was there. It was a concept that hit my buttons, there was just something about the prose that was a little too rambly, but I ignored that. XD;

What is this "sasunaru"(canon) of which you speak? :P

... canonish?
...
*sniffles*
But hey. My real opinion on who tops? *points at icon* XD (except itachi. itachi tops EVERYTHING.)

Was this the same person who said the got violently ill and wanted to kill themselves when faced with a NaruSasu fic instead of a SasuNaru fic? Because I was sort of hoping that person had died in a freak TNT accident.

... le fait est aussi que le fandom est si vieux que les caractérisations fanon ont largement pris le dessus.
Avec Naruto et Sasuke, ya pas autant de marge pour tourner l'un d'eux en uke et les avoir toujours IC.

I suddenly have an urge to write a fic with Prince Sakura wooing the shy maiden Sasuke.

I remember when I read the user info for that comm they said that Sasu\Naru and Naru\Sasu were acceptable they just created one comm. ^^
I didn't get her point either, how can you like 2 people being together if only one is on top (no wait to her its dominant)
She had to take it down cause no one sided with her, she had no point after all. *sic*
More Random Bystanderness!
(Anonymous) 2006-11-23 06:01 am (UTC)(link)What if, by some great charity, a writer tries to either use the characters in their original archetypes (free of bubbles or dashing of any kind), OR they write a fic where they're both kinda equal? Does the whole tagging scheme play into that? I only ask because I might somewhere down the line run into a Lee/Garaa or Garaa/Lee fic that's kinda "theirloveissooneupmanship", and I'd like to know wheter or not to correct the poor soul.
