more sunlightverse silliness...

this is such a cheesy idea, but at the same time it’s also a totes logical one, okay??? D:

Since the 24 trolls and 9 humans and one lone cherub are now the same mixed species thanks to game shenanigans, their God Tier/activated powers shape should be similar as well, right? And humans don’t physically change save for the clothes, but the trolls get wings.

And they massively outnumber the other species in this particular melting pot. (heck, dadbert is not actually a player so he counts for jack shit in this balance. welp.)

So… it totally makes sense that on top of the horns and grayed out skin and claws and teeth, the humans would also gain winged shapes when using their powers. Doesn’t it??? yes it does. >__>

But then Dave started bitching up a storm in my head about how if he had to have wings then they were damn well going to be HIS wings, IE Davesprite’s wings. IE bird/feathery. And if he was introducing feathers in the god “genome” then the other humans might as well get those, especially since it jived better with *their* mythological influences.

So now the gods on this planet are depicted as having wings, but the Identical Twin pairs (IE the ex-trolls, since they’re clones of each other) have butterfly wings, and the Fraternal Twins (ex-humans) have feathers, and the Lone Birth (Calliope) somehow gets bat wings, because lol cherub w/ demon wings lol i r easily amused.

I am the most logical. It is me.

(oh yes ironically enough the twin thing is what Calliope brought to the mix, reproductively speaking. I keep headcanoning cherubs as so violent and asocial (and omg traumatic insemination auuugh) that reproduction equals death pretty often, so if every time one child is born the mother dies then the species couldn’t perpetuate, so they tended to have multiple births. The new species that the players are gods of tends to twins and triplets, sometimes more. Winning the game meant getting rid of Lord English, so she is now Twinless in the local mythology. IDK if he’s still asleep in her head or dead for good. I tend to think “alseep” because I liked Caliborn, but he’s probably at least Satan in the new religion XD)

Long story short the ex-human players get bird wings when they access their god tier powers. I don’t mean angel wings, I mean bird. John’s are sparrow wings, Rose’s are storm petrel, Roxy’s are magpie wings, etcetera. And they’re all pretty short, Dave has the hugest by far, the rest tend to be between slightly over hand-length and slightly under arm-length, more cute/symbolic than functional. Wonder what color they’d be though, same as their eye color? Their “twin“‘s eye color? Their Aspect’s main color? Some other random color? Hmm.

This is kinda ridiculously speshul. But also hella fun to draw. So.

Askerian: aaawant ;_;
Saro : Well, why not?
Askerian: it’s cheesy? ._.
Askerian: (BUT CUTE AAAHHH)
Askerian: .__.
Askerian: it’s so silly.
Saro : ...So?
Askerian: ._.
Saro : If there’s one thing I know about Homestuck, it’s that this is nooooot a super serious canon.
Askerian: ... this is a very good point!! :D

Also it's adorable okay.
(no roxy yet cause i don't know what Rogue god tier pajamas look like. ;.;)
(original sprites by Feastings. SO ADORABLE. edit by me duh.)

fantasticirreverence replied:
A little cheese does the soul good. Anyway, what kind of species did they create in this new universe? Have you given it any thought beyond their mythology?

Sure! They’re basically the same as this new species, humanoid with horns and pointy bits (only with no wings, those are for Godhood only), and their colors tend to be much more muddled because now eye color, skin color and blood color are independent from one another but can interact weird and affect how the end result looks. For example Sollux and Jane might have children who have her blue eyes gene and her brown-gray skin gene over his pure-gray skin gene, but they have HIS yellow blood which means the brown is yellowish since the blood now shows through AND the eyes end up looking green, since they’re her blue iris pigment+his yellow blood. (it’s not entirely scientifically figured out yet. Don’t try to make too much sense of it. XD) Also pure white or black hair doesn’t exist outside of legendary heroes and gods.

Also they’re monotremes. u.u

...Well, the monotreme part is likely to be mildly traumatic to all characters (albeit in very different ways for the former trolls and humans). :D

The character designs all look pretty cool!

First, this idea is shiny as fuck and now I want to draw wings. Yesh. And the monotremes thing makes so much sense I'm kind of shocked it wasn't glaringly obvious from the beginning, so hats off there.

Second? I totally looked at your little sprites up there And thought you had tiger!jake in khaki hotpants and Igiggled SO LOUD right here in the computer lab. Ugh I have homework I ought to be doing! But no, only fanarts now.

As far as the Rogue pajamas go, idk if this is canon or not, but I found this little (lol) thing floating out in the internet: http://tinyurl.com/godtierreference

Also, I'm loving the wings. CHEESE IS GOOD FOR YOU. I WORSHIP CHEESE. As far as the color goes, I'd go with eye-color, because it matches the troll wings in canon. :D And that way, you have just one rule for wings, not "Oh, ex-trolls go by blood color, but ex-humans go by aspect!" because that might get confusing for their little babby species.
Eeeee, monotremes! Maybe it's just because I think of echidnas when I think monotremes, but that's just so cute.
So did Davesprite merge with Dave? I'm just wondering that because Dave's missing a wing (oh noooooooo. D:)

The Page is definitely non-canon; it's different from what we saw of God-Tier deceased alt-timeline Tavros in the dreambubble Lord English blew up by vomiting exploding rainbows.

(Oh god what did I just write.)

The Sylph is also inaccurate. I suspect the reference was made before Aranea's God-Hoodie was revealed.

Also, there's a list at the very top specifying which designs are canon (Heir, Seer, Knight, Witch, Thief, Maid, Prince, Bard) and which are the artist's own speculations (Page, Sylph, Rogue, Mage.) Sheer dumb luck and/or whim of Hussie could result in the Mage or Rogue designs actually being correct, but I wouldn't count on it.

Yeah, I knew that Hussie didn't do all of them, but sometimes he has other artists do stuff sometimes, like with a lot of the pixel art, and with Calliope's artwork, which is actually Shellby's Deudly Firearms. (http://duedlyfirearms.tumblr.com/) So I guess what I meant is, it's possibly canon? Idk if I'm explaining this right.

Wings sound awesome. Gonna need a bigger picture at some point thou (thanks Feastings). Speaking of Calli, I keep imagining how that explanation is gonna go.

Karkat: Why are more then half these pregnancy things twins! And the rest triplets! Bad enough they're growing inside us, do we need so many! I swear John, if this is some freaky human thing you failed to mention...

Calli: Actually, I believe this would be my races sole influence. Allow me to explain.

Calli: When a male and a female cherub meet during one of our infrequent and irregular heats or simpley decide they've lived long enough...

Calli:...thus proving he is worthy for mating. The female allows the male to approach, wiping off his blood and balling up his fist...

Calli:...having asserted his dominance the male prepares himself for mating. Unfortunately, the female cherub does not have a sexual opening, but the cherub penis is designed for that. The male need only line up with a particularly fetching piece of torso...

Calli:...after such an ordeal, both parties, particularly the mother-to-be are quite exhausted. But only one of them has to gestate a half dozen yippers. So, acting more on instinct then anything else, the female grabs the male, distends her jaw...

Calli:...finally putting her out of her long, drawn out misery and leaving the yippers to fend for themselves. Are you guys alright?

On a only somewhat related note, can Calli at least keep her tongue. Her tongue is awesome and I'd like her to keep it, if you're unwilling to give it to no one else.

What mythology eventually develops in the new world/civilization? What role do the gods play; are they closely involved with mortal civilization, living, working and playing among their "children" from day to day in plain sight, or are they more distant figures? (This question is partly independent of what the kids actually do; they could be living incognito in a civilization that thinks of them as grand, mysterious, and archetypal and has no idea how up close and personal they really are.)

You say that wings are exclusive to God-Tiers. Is this exclusive exclusive, or are there very unusual exceptions who become almost legendary themselves for their sheer rarity and the cultural associations of having wings, kind of like the Summoner back on Alternia?

If white and black are off-limits, what hair colors are common in the new species? Standard human range, or something more exotic?

What is the hybrid species called?

[identity profile] explodingfrogs.livejournal.com 2012-09-14 10:48 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, if the Trolls and Cherubs are any indication, you can just pick any well-known mythological being that has modern cultural connotations out of a hat, as long as the creature described in the myths has absolutely nothing whatsoever in common with the species you're naming it after.

...Hmm.

Titans (the "size" connotation is a modern addition that comes from the association with the Titanic, which had a sister ship called the Olympic; it doesn't necessarily mean "ginormous")?

Fairies (which were fakey fakes for wrigglers and totally not real--until the kids won their session)? (Other ideas in this vein: Fae, Fair Folk, Sidhe, Brownies, (Hob)Goblins, Boggarts, Changelings, Gnomes, and really any name that's been associated with fairy folklore at some time or another.)

Elves (separate from fairies because Tolkien, D&D, and memetic mutation have given them an additional, separate identity as pretentious condescending holier-than-thou treehugging bishounen who are just begging for a sucker-punch to the face)?

*imagines Dave's reaction to "fairies" or "elves"*

Yeah, he'd be like "hell no, hell fucking no." So would Karkat for that matter.

...When you say that they're monotremes, you don't mean that they have cloacae now, right? (Will they lactate like monotremes do, sans nipple? @_@;; )
ext_431311: character photo of Jessica (Default)

haha

breasts without nipples would look kind of retarded anyway, I think!

I imagine the young get weaned much faster then humans, with the sharp nasty teeth and all, the nursing probably becomes a supplement pretty fast, except when the kids get sick, because then maybe they need easily digested stuff, plus antibodies that are found in breast milk to help them get better.

don't mind my rambling, biology is sort of a pet interest of mine, it's your setting!

Monotremes

(Anonymous) 2012-09-15 08:47 am (UTC)(link)
I love your stories just saying. XD but I learned more then I ever needed to know about monotremes today. I love it but I needed a dictionary for some of it lol. Although I can safely say that it is what prompted me to comment.

Your stories got me into homestuck and I am pretty sure I prefer them over the canon. Thanks for all the world building stuff sometimes I like that more then the stories just from a creative perspective.

I have a livejournal I am just being lazy.
