GW fandom whining XD;

... hnnnrgh! *kicks fic*

"would you like a dystopian futuristic AU with shiny social order shenanigans? oh, and it's Heero/Duo. :D "
"Yay! I sure would!"
"It's well written too!"
"AWESOME!"
"also relena is, while in a position of major power and responsibility, a brainless twit and totally obsessed with her nonexistent love story with heero yuy."
"........................... =_= sorry, tonight i've got to wash my hair."

It makes no sense that a teenage girl would be so awesome at the political game that she's elected to major offices... and then perpetually get lost in daydreams of a guy she can't tell doesn't give a shit about her, to the point where she (as is the fandom rule) becomes a selfish monster of moronism and jealousy when that's suddenly threatened because omg some slut is trying to seduce her Heero.

I can see how to some people Total Pacifism would be seen as naive. But if she was elected then it proves most people WANT to dream with her, and that she has a good solid non-dreamy plan to get them there! They wouldn't follow her on her giggly say-so. Only someone with high ideals yet also a high sense of realism could ever make it work.

JoIsBishMyoga: No no, wait, it totally makes sense... if there's a regent controlling her!
Askerian: nrgh.
JoIsBishMyoga: /teasing
JoIsBishMyoga: maybe the stress split her personality, so she has "competent" and "kindergarten teenager"
Askerian: pff.

shewhoflies: *petpetsoothe*
shewhoflies: ...wanna "fix" it?
Askerian: meh. =__= i was mostly happy cause i didn't have to plot it out myself
shewhoflies: nnngh. you've gone and made me curious now.
Askerian: s'compicated. the setup looked shiny. genetic evolutions and gene purists plotting discreet massacres and mutations and government telling you who you can have children with so the kids turn out without defects
shewhoflies: ohhh *__*
Askerian: it's sorta the same themes i was playing with with my fic newtype but way more hardcore
Askerian: and then bam surprise twit relena, who seems to be a HUGE part of the scenario
Askerian: if the scenario rests on relena being that naive obsessed delusional moron then it's not one i want to read.
Askerian: even though duo was on the other side from heero and it looked like they'd be enemies for a while! T__T
Askerian: I HAS A SAD.

... But then suddenly omg omg fiiiiiii Newtype was talking to me again!! and a ton of plotting happened. I HAS A HAPPY. :D I mean, by now maybe five people still care about that fic at all, but I'm one of them, and I say WHEE.

You are the reason I'm writing a Gundam Wing threesome-fic.

Yay, Newtype!

Though honestly, anything that you write that revives from a slump gets a YAY! reaction from me.

I hold out hope that something will make you go RAR! in a way that revives Crossed Wires even if I know that is extremely unlikely.

Eh... Itachi may not have done what he did because he was a sociopath, but still I don't believe for a second that Sasuke was the only kid in the Uchihas. Also, I will never understand why he tormented Sasuke like that as Itachi's plan makes no sense to me whatsoever.

Sorry for budding in, but I've been thinking about that for the last few days and it had to get out.

[identity profile] mika-kun.livejournal.com 2011-09-02 01:28 am (UTC)(link)
Eh, everybody's got a different feel for it, right? That's what makes fandom fun and all that.

Personally, the whole Itachi is good thing bugs me because emotionally everything in me went "Wait, what? No. That explains that Itachi thought he was doing the right thing, but that doesn't make it objectively even close to okay to kill a bunch of small children (not to mention the adults who were not involved)!"

[identity profile] q99.livejournal.com 2011-09-02 04:49 am (UTC)(link)
Well, Madara was involved too, and him killing kids I can totally buy. When it's a clan, I doubt there were totally uninvolved adults, everyone should at least have knowledge of it.

It's still pretty darn evil of him even with that, though.

[identity profile] mika-kun.livejournal.com 2011-09-02 09:24 pm (UTC)(link)
Depends how big the clan is. If it's big enough then there can be a lot more internal conflict which might make people more likely to not automatically side with the clan leaders. Also, telling noncombatants who are unlikely to stumble across the information (aka: the very old couple at the end of the street who don't have any living children to participate) is not a good idea. The more people know a secrete the less secure it is. Ninjas should understand operational security which would limit the number of people aware of what's going on.

[identity profile] q99.livejournal.com 2011-09-03 04:33 am (UTC)(link)
From what we've seen, old ninja usually stay quite involved/informed as advisors (it takes a big badass to live to old age as a ninja, after all). If anything I'd expect the old couples' to be more heavily involved.

The ninja know operational security, but it's a clan where everyone's a ninja primarily loyal to the clan and will be directly involved in the event. Considering it seemed to be coming pretty soon, I'm guessing while it might have started small, by the time of the flashbacks they were in the final planning stages and had brought everyone on board.

[identity profile] mika-kun.livejournal.com 2011-09-03 03:57 pm (UTC)(link)
There are at least two people in that clan that turned out to value the village more and we don't see enough of the clan to get any idea about most of them. If there are at least two, why can't there be more?

I have a few things that sit unfinished due to the shiny wearing off, so I understand. Particularly so in light of your reply below about having the setting and characters and no plot when you started. My NaNo stories mostly stall because of that, though I have managed to hammer out 50k on all of them out of sheer bullheadedness. If I actually edited those down to good writing rather than padded "must get the word count" writing they would be much, much shorter.

result might be worse

You could always try again for the hell of it if you felt like it, and if you thought it was complete utter crap you wouldn't have to tell anyone about it? And if it was maybe slightly okay we could chew on it a bit to make it juicy?

ah well. Hey, as Hemingway once said, "All first drafts are shit."

O.o lol

Newtype! *does a happy dance* I hope you will tell me about it! For I have missed it, yes I have.

...speaking of which, I adored your dragon!Nataku scenelet so much. I meant to squee about it to you, but you had to go to bed. ;_;

Ah, Relena. Of a persuasion of characters that rarely gets treated well in fanfic communities ^^

this is actually what puts me off most GW fics...because I really like her I think she can be fascinating if done right. But if you can't do her right, why the senseless bashing? which is why I mainly read your stuff or [livejournal.com profile] turnippatch's stuff..

[identity profile] meanne77.livejournal.com 2011-09-02 06:40 am (UTC)(link)
(Je fais partie de ces 5 là ! \o/)

Mewtype yay!!!

[identity profile] kumo.livejournal.com 2011-09-02 02:00 pm (UTC)(link)
Whoa I didn't know you were writing GW fics again! *_*

And that Relena thing, I used to get a kick out of villainizing Relena when I was a young 1x2 shipper; re-watching GW recently... yeah that makes no sense. Not in serious fic anyway. >_>

[identity profile] acechan.livejournal.com 2011-09-02 09:29 pm (UTC)(link)
Yay, Newtype! And this sort of thing is why I always say I find badfic more inspirational than goodfic. It makes you mad enough to want to do it right.

[identity profile] proanon.livejournal.com 2011-09-03 11:14 am (UTC)(link)
*laughing ruefully* I wonder how much fan hate is teenage girls terrified that they're supposed to emulate Relena's maturity level. So they drag her down to their level.

[identity profile] pegunicent.livejournal.com 2011-09-03 04:31 pm (UTC)(link)
The thing that always got *me*, because I neither loved nor hated Relena, was the automatic assumption that people thought she loved Heero. I never saw it as her being in love with him. She didn't *know* him. She was fascinated with him, she was intensely lonely, and she was aware that there was something extremely *off* with the weird boy.

But I don't think she even tried fooling herself that it was 'love'. She saw Heero, who was her own age, doing something amazing and dangerous and wrong, but making a *difference*, and started evaluating her own life and decided that there was no reason she had to sit around and wait for the adults to stop fucking up. She would do things the *right* way.

I think she wanted Heero to be her friend and ally. He was an inspiration. He was frightening. He made her feel alive and aware and confused and powerful on some levels, but in the end she didn't fall in love with Heero, she might, *might* have fallen in love with the ideal that he was trying to uphold. But the same could be said of him for her and Pacifism. And she was mature enough to know that there was a human behind that ideal and that she Did Not Know Him. And he didn't know her.

I never saw her as being in love with him or fooling herself that they had a relationship. I did see her *wanting* to know him, and to do something with her life and to maybe help the strange, broken boy on the beach.

But that's just me.

[identity profile] marsdejahthoris.livejournal.com 2011-09-03 06:07 pm (UTC)(link)
Yay! What generally informs my take on Relena is that she is JUST AS CRAZY as the pilots. It's just that we get in on the ground floor with her emotional trauma, and we don't with them. We learn their issues via flashback and exposition. Yes, Relena develops a rather strong obsession with Heero, but as pegunicent said, I don't think it was really romantic. I'd posit that there probably were some romantic/sexual issues there, because she's a fifteen-year old girl, and between the age and societal expectations, EVERYTHING is going to touch on sex and romance for a girl that age, but it's minor. But honestly, while she may be misguided, I don't think it's any MORE misguided than everybody else, and really, Relena becomes quite fabulously badass, just not with a gun. I think the pink limo throws people off...

[identity profile] kraziekatlord.livejournal.com 2011-09-08 06:06 pm (UTC)(link)
*cheers*

This is why in my head-canon, she helped Duo and Heero get together. And their first date was blowing up the pink limo for her.

"Couldn't you have just had it repainted?"

"Absolutely not, Quatre. Everyone, and myself included, would still think of it as that pink monstrosity. Besides, look at how much fun they're having." *Relena primly drinks her tea*

[identity profile] marsdejahthoris.livejournal.com 2011-09-10 12:57 am (UTC)(link)
I've been known to ship Heero/Duo/Relena on occasion, among other things. Of course, my Gundam Wing AU, which I poke at every so often, Relena and Heero ARE a couple, but they're much older when they meet, he's less messed-up, and she hits him over the head with a potted plant the first time she sees him, which Duo finds HILARIOUS.
ext_448983: (Default)

[identity profile] kraziekatlord.livejournal.com 2011-09-10 02:02 am (UTC)(link)
... I wub wu.... And i hate you, cause now my muse wants to use a variant of that idea for my monster plunnie.

Basis is: For hte plunnie, the Gundam Pilots are in an alternate universe for nearly a year before they manage a way home. Relena's first reaction is to bean the first pilot she sees, with a potted plant. Of course, in this verse, it's Relena/Wufei for a variety of reasons, and Duo cracks up cause he's been teasing Wufei almost from their disappearance about being "in wub" with "Rele-nee-chan."

[identity profile] marsdejahthoris.livejournal.com 2011-09-11 04:14 pm (UTC)(link)
*snicker* You're welcome to it. In this AU, the pilots are anti-terrorist agents, and Heero's gone in to retrieve a diplomat held hostage. Said diplomat is already trying to escape, and mistakes Heero for one of her captors. Potted plants ensue.
