Can I say, I LOVE that you put muscles in their arms? I think my one biggest annoyance for World of Warcraft toons is that they give guys huge bulky arms, but girl arms are so rail think I don't even know how they can lift a bow, let alone draw it.

Which way is Sephiroth holding Masamune? Because unless we're seeing it edge-on, the blade doesn't look right to me; I've always seen it as slightly katana-style, i.e., straight (though potentially still sharp) on one edge, with a curve - a very mild one, in this case - down from the point on the other side. Here, instead, it seems to be drawn as almost a "really long stiletto" sort of blade.

That could work without conflict if Sephiroth is holding the blade with the flat sides up and down, so that we're seeing either the curved edge or the 'rear' edge straight on, but it doesn't quite look that way to me.


I actually like some of the "sketchy" nature of the Cloud 'half' of the drawing. The unerased lines around the arm and the Buster give the impression that perhaps the blade isn't quite as steady as all that; whether it's shaking because Cloud can't handle the weight in that stance yet (when is this set, anyway?) or as a side effect of an emotional reaction or of whatever else, it kind of works IMO.


I've never envisioned Sephiroth's hair being that... not "messy", but relatively uncontrolled; it always seemed to flow more or less straight and together, in my mind, until near the very tips. (Probably related to Sephiroth's general well-groomed and overall immaculate appearance; comparatively flyaway hair doesn't fit well with "immaculate" in my mind.) This style still works, though, it just seems to imply a bit more of a "wild" personality than I usually think of for Sephiroth.


I think the distinction in regard to Cloud's elbow and the way she's holding the sword has a lot to do with grip. When you're swinging a two-handed sword around rapidly, you're probably (not an expert here) going to be gripping it with both hands fairly close together; here, they're almost as far apart as they can get while still both being on the hilt.

In order to keep the sword balanced (without a LOT more physical strength, specifically I think in the fingers) with the hands closer together, I believe you'd need to hold the sword at more of a vertical angle - either downwards or, more likely, upwards. Given how heavy that blade is, having the hands relatively far apart only makes sense.

From Cloud's current posture, straightening her elbow would result in lowering the tip of the sword. (That could be countered by straightening her other elbow as well and possibly making other adjustments, but unless I'm missing some possibilities, then either the sword itself would be lower or it would be out at more "full extension", the way Masamune is; neither seems like a good idea from a combat perspective, though I'm not sure why just offhand.)


Another point is that, when holding a sword with the elbow bent that way, you really aren't - or at least I'm really not - balanced for moving quickly in most directions; you're limited to one or two. (In a quick check just now with a (proportionally much shorter!) cane, those directions were "up" and "right". It actually felt as if it would be more natural to let go with the rear hand and swing the back of the cane around to hit someone with it, staff-wise; that really wouldn't work with the Buster Sword, though.)

There are a couple of ways that could work. The simplest one is of course "Cloud doesn't actually know how to use the sword that well yet", but I'm having a hard time finding a context for it which would still plausibly let Cloud have that outfit and the Buster Sword. A possibly better one is "Cloud doesn't really want to fight / doesn't really think she'll have to fight / is under psychological pressure which leaves her comparatively unable to fight", but that still may not be what you were intending.

My friend and I were talking, and she says, as a woman who used to have muscle mass before her health took a bad turn, that Seph's muscles are very well done. Though I think something's off with her closer armpit, it shouldn't have that notch there, the quadrangular space isn't formed exactly like that and leaves me going "What happened to her lats!?"

However, she thinks you made the elbows too thin, which makes them pop as unrealistic in comparison with the very well done muscles.
