frrgh. computer problems.

Recently I've been having some troubles with LJ. figured, ehh, they were making updates, there was annoyance at stuff they'd recently put in their code that was full of malware and they had to take it out or something like that, the problems would pass.

Today I realized apparently the problems are just in internet explorer 7, not firefox, so... what?

Asked the friends I had in arm's reach today and as far as I know, it's only me. I have NO idea what happened, how widespread, and what to do to fix it. (don't say "switch to firefox! :D" or some other browser, that's not acceptable.)

Problems: it won't show me my icons when I'm making a post, just a drop down menu; it won't auto-complete my tags, I have to type them all in by hand; it won't unfold comment threads; when I want to make a comment visible instead of clicking one thing I have to go to a different page asking me if I'm sure and then a second page telling me it's done and then back to the original post -- etcetera.

So if they're known problems, where are they discussed? It's not in Known Issues and I don't know where else to look. Anyone got links? And if they're not, um, shit. What now. ~___~

(also, [livejournal.com profile] chibirisuchan, I owe you an OC pic for last time. I remember! U.U)

in other news I've been watching Durarara, and it's... kinda weird, a little all over the place at first (starts out more like a collection of stories about an ensemble cast than one plot) and slow to get moving, but the characters are really fun (kinda over the top but in a hilarious and quite shiny way) and OOOOOO episode ten, prrt prrt. I like it. ^^

nothing too helpful to say... just wanted to empathize... :)

if things are ok in firefox but not in ie7 you might want to try upgrading to ie 8 i develop webpages and firefox is the most standards compliant, so alot of people code for it, but that means that if you are using anything else things can be weird. Ive written code that looks different in ie5, 6, 7 and works fine in 8 (and even had to write different bits of code to handle each one yuck)
Here are my suggestions:
-Clear Browser cache
-Delete temporary files and cookies
-Make sure Javascript is enabled
-update to ie8

Hope you get it working :) !

Can't help with the browser, I'm afraid, but I'm rather liking Durarara. I don't find it quite as awesome as Baccano, which was the same people and is the show I've liked the most in the past I think three years, but it is pretty good.

Tags can auto-complete? -did not know that-

Why won't you use any other browser or even update?

Re: "just because" isn't a good enough reason?

I won't say you to change browser or such because, as being a fricking person who hates changing, I remember how much I whine and yelled when my friend tried to make me switch to firefox (I would have done it eventually, because I still have IE 6 and that is a very insecure browser. If you don't want to, then you don't have to read comments on "switch the browser to fix this problems". :)

I hope someone with IE 7 will read your post and eventually help you - even by just saying "ehy, that's not happening to me!".

Durarara! They animated the manga? XD Eee! Such pretty drawing style!

Actually, they made a manga and an anime based on the light novels. I think there are seven? of them out already and some translations floating about on LJ.

It's going to get so epic and fucked up. Looks like it'll be a fun ride, actually XD

Good luck with the net problems, bb! I would recommend switching to firefox mostly because it's got some awesome LJ specific addons (it was the ONLY reason I switched over from Opera) and I can't say I've looked back since, but...you said not to, so I'm not! Promise ;p

;_; It's not just you. Same problems here, and I have ie8, go figure. I just hope they magically solve themselves if I wait some more. >.>;;

Sorry, I use mostly Google Chrome. Not an option, I take it?

[identity profile] uneko.livejournal.com 2010-03-15 01:35 pm (UTC)(link)
*coughcough* Upgrade to chrome.

Actually, Chrome might really be awesome with your dinosaur computer. It has it's own task manager! When your computer starts acting shitty, you can go "What? is it chrome? open the chrome task manager, and whamboom, see that flash has suddenly started to devour the universe. And all it takes to stop it is one, single, button click. BAM. no more universe-hungry flash. Is website X being snotty? KILL IT. the tab will still stay open, so all you have to do is refresh it to load it up again, but in the mean time, it'll stop stealing all of the memory in the world.

I dont' know how your bookmarks would do, tough. bein' honest.

I really dig chrome, anyway, and think it's a great browser. It doesn't fix your problems, but it blows firefox out of the water :D

Have you tried uninstalling and reinstalling it? no, maybe that wouldn't help. if the same problems occur in FF>.. hmm, have you tried it on other computers?
