askerian: Serious Karkat in a red long-sleeved shirt (Naruto_Sai is a lying liar)
askerian ([personal profile] askerian) wrote2010-01-02 04:17 am

Happy new year!

It's already January 2 around here, but better late than never, huh?

Anyway, I only have one resolution this year -- keep track of how much I write, month by month. Then maybe I can figure out how much or how little I actually write, and find a realistic goal to aim for, and get motivated by watching the little bar fill up. I like progress bars. u.u

I also hope to complete Teamwork 3 but I'm not going to make any promises, we all know what happens when i say "oh it's only x more chapters/scenes, should be done soon".

Stolen from [livejournal.com profile] annwyd:

Ofic:
-NaNo story: 17 800 words (nrgh not even half! SHAME)
-Breanna & James: 5 200 words
-mermaids IN SPACE (2 500 words) (super shame)
-other random stuff i haven't posted: 16 000 words

Naruto:
-Teamwork: chapters 6&7 + a future interlude (25 300 words) (... in one year, two chapters only? srsly? auuugh self wtfffffffff)
-teamwork sidefics (16 400 words) (hrrrrm :| )
-Locker Room Therapy sidefics (5 000 words)
-random meme ficlets (12 000 words) (whoa, they pile up fast)

(... that's it? no other oneshots? what? seriously? ... D:)

final fantasy 7
-restore (15 000 words) (ooh, not bad. I guess it was in 2008 that i had such horrible writer's block with it.)
-enemy skill (5 500 words)
-as of yet unpublished ficlets: ~3600 words

gundam wing:
-newtype (7 200 words) (what? only one chapter in one year? what the HELL self DAMN IT)

Crossovers:
-GW/Firefly Duo/Mal the Stowaway (~400 words)

dragonball z:
-packmates thinger with chichi and goku's dad (7 000 words)

Seirei no Moribito:
-jin/balsa(~ 1 900 words )
-jin/shuuga (900 words)

bastard!!
- series of weird ficlets (3 200 words)

avatar the last airbender:
-unpublished iroh&toph crack i need to fix (1 100)
-really quick mermaidsinSPACE!AU katara/jet/zuko for Rin (400 words) XD

TOTAL: 151 400 words.

It would feel more impressive if it wasn't almost all spread out into tiny sidefics and random crack instead of as chapters on my multiparts. DX I mean, random crack is fun, but I'm kind of shocked at how few of my multiparts I added chapters to this year. Also, no big oneshots? Wut?

That's about 12 000 words a month. Slightly less. Which considering that I spent half my nano doing jack shit and still ended up doing twice that much (nano story + crap i wrote to avoid working on nano story) really proves that I could afford to put the bar higher. But I know myself and my need for long periods of laziness. So I think for January I'll place the bar at 20 000 and see what happens. (half of which HAS TO BE one of my multiparts, damn it. >:O That's an order, self.)

Leitmotif of the year: Apparently it was the year of random crack.

Overall Thoughts: AUGH UPDATE THE DAMN MULTIPARTS. DX DAMN IT SELF.

My best story of this year: ... Hm. I like ff7!Enemy Skill so far. It's all mostly plotting though.

My favorite story of this year: Teamwork, the current arc. *tries not to cackle evilly*

Story of mine most underappreciated by the universe, in my opinion: I don't know, I tend to always be very lucky in matters of appreciation. ♥♥♥

Most fun story to write: Laundry Emergency. fufufu sasuke and naruto doing naked apron~

Story with the single sexiest moment: that goddamn Teamwork 2 epilogue. Mmh.

Most "Holy crap, that's wrong, even for you" story: *PONDERS* There was this story where Karin was going prrt at the thought of Sasuke's hand on her organs, but it was only a quick reference... I'm sure there's something else but right now I can't remember.

Story that shifted my own perceptions of the characters: The ChiChi story. I'm really making myself like her there, she went from "harpy wife I don't care about woohoo saiyajins" to "... fierce!! ♥"

Hardest story to write: Restore. Teamwork. It's a toss-up. They keep throwing me sexy, sexy plot and then I go to write it out and it's like pulling nails and hello plotholes to fix and whole blocks of story to throw away and redo from the ground up. Eeeevil.

Biggest Disappointment: ...I dunno.

Biggest Surprise: Dunno, there too. I don't tend to be very surprised by my stories. I plan them out too much. XD;;

Most Unintentionally Telling Story: No idea. *scratches chin* I guess there's that trend for polyamorous shipping, but I don't even know if I could be poly IRL, so...

Story I haven't yet written, but intend to: ...let us concentrate on the pile of stories I've started and not completed yet, yeah? >__>

Anyway, multiparts I have to add at least one chapter to before next year or else I fail forever:
-Newtype
-Enemy Skill
-the DBZ thing
-Crossed Wires

Multiparts I have to add AT LEAST TWO chapters to or else I fail forever:
-Teamwork
-Restore

Also, fix the 2009nano story and Mermaids in Space already. >:(

[identity profile] questofdreams.livejournal.com 2010-01-02 03:28 am (UTC)(link)
Ah! Sorry, I must have missed that XD

YAY! One update a year is reasonable with the number of wips you have lol

[identity profile] questofdreams.livejournal.com 2010-01-02 04:02 am (UTC)(link)
SORRY, DISTRACTED BY YOUR ICON *LOLS*

*cough* Right. Uuuuuh... BUT YOU HAVE SO MANY WIPS D: Crossed Wires is one of the updates that I am looking forward to the most though ^^;

Bad phraseology. *poke* I'm not whipping you, I'm poking you. *poke* Whipping would be too distracting. *poke* Also painful. *poke* I'm not that mean. *poke*

Happy New Year to you, too! And dang, woman, that's a lot of fic! :O

Just a thought, maybe you should also keep track of what happens around when you get a burst of inspiration or a devastating lack thereof. Like if staying up till five AM gives you the BEST ideas, make a note, or, if you start watching a new anime or reading a manga, or you read something you DON'T like and you end up not wanting to write for three months straight, make a note. It's how I make the dry spells less dry and how I keep the bursts from derailing the existing projects....with marginal success.

Theoretically, this would be the data gathering year and next year would be when you apply what you concluded.

*flails* ILU. Wishing you all the best for the new year. :P

[identity profile] phoenix-melody.livejournal.com 2010-01-02 07:33 am (UTC)(link)
Wow, you wrote a ridiculous amount of stuff this year. I could barely scrape up 18,000 consecutive words on original fiction.

I hope 2010 is awesome for you. And I'm rooting for a Newtypes update. So much.

[identity profile] phoenix-melody.livejournal.com 2010-01-03 02:22 am (UTC)(link)
It's true, I cannot work or write if I am dead. But I need to put a higher priority on writing. For how can I become a novelist if I haven't written any novels? D:

Ahahahaha, I love that, thank you. ♥

GW Newtypes: hell yeaah, at least one!
(Bonne année, ceci dit :p)

*luffs yooooooou!* ♥♥♥♥

Happy New Year! Hope you had a good time on the actual day, and that the rest of the year is awesome, too!

[identity profile] sister-dear.livejournal.com 2010-01-02 06:17 pm (UTC)(link)
Oooohh, I like that list of WIP's to update. :D You're making me remember just how many of your stories I look forward to. Even if I never comment on them because I am very very bad. Restore! And Newtype! And Crossed Wires! And all that Ofic! <3

Giving yourself goals that have motivated you in the past is a great idea. I hope it works out for you.

Happy New Year!

If it's any consolation at all, you write much more in a week than most people *cought cought* write in years. ;-)

Breanna & James WHAT IS THIS I HAVEN'T READ IT
(Well I'm actually happy I've got more of your stuff to read ♥)

...Maybe getting a playlist would help you get in the mood? I know there are people who can't write without listening to music.

(On a not-completely-unrelated point, I seem to have accidentaly acquired a few quotes for secretaryverse... yeah, I don't know. My brain surprises me sometimes.)
