site update and name pondering

Only the fics for now; I'm still too lazy to do the pics too. Oh Asuka, good idea, keep letting the pics pile up, I'm sure it will make it easier later on. x__x

Multiparts:

-Teamwork 3:
---Chapter 3: Island
---Chapter 4: Allies?
---Chapter 5: Fox
---Sidefic: Bet (Naruto & team Kunoichi)
---Sidefic: Marking (drabble, Naruto & Sakura)
---Sidefic: babydaddy (Kakashi & Aoru)

-Crossed Wires Chapter 12.

Naruto One-shots:
-Wanna have Sex? (narusasu random dialogue with Konoha 11 and Team Snakes flavor)
-Locker Room Therapy (my very first schoolfic AU ♥ T^T)

Final Fantasy 7
-Cloudette and the Yellow Orb (genderbending crack)
-Aeris/Tifa porn ficlet.

I'm thinking about making a page for all the short crossovers -- but if I post them there I'll have to rewrite/polish them too. Oh, why not.

My main problem with them is where to post them on FFnet. XD;; I was thinking of making a collection of fics, but it's not like all of them have one same fandom in common, so which category do I place them in? I feel like no one ever looks in Anime crossovers. Blah, like it matters, they're so short and weird only someone who already reads my stuff would bother looking at them. XD

-------

I've been wondering whether to change my screen name for a good six months now.

I still like the sound of the name Asuka. A-beginnings are prrt, and S also, and Ka... I just like Ka sounds too. Dynamic in a way? Kureru, though, was only added on to differentiate from another Asuka author in the Gundam Wing fandom. (It's basically just my RL first name in romaji. Ph34r my naming schemes. I should have thought on it harder, seems like no one can spell or remember it. XD;) But, well, I'm not Japanese and it's starting to sound kinda weeabo.

In that vein, I like the sound of Askerian. It's original, it has all the sounds I like... and, it's not me. It's an old character. When people call me Askerian I know they're talking to me, but at the same time it doesn't really feel mine. I'm not a bad-tempered curly-haired unicorn stallion. I used it for many of my accounts around teh internets, but that's it; it's the name of the accounts.

I've been playing with similar sounds, trying to re-spell and tweak them, but the only one that sounds right is Aska (keeps the exact same sounds, AND stops being Japanese, just by taking out one lousy letter! Awesome.) Though I'm wondering if it comes across as Ask-ah or Ass-ka or something. >_>;;; (of course now that i've pointed it out even people who wouldn't have will. u_____u;;; )

... Askah? Askha? Ashka? Hahshkhah! Hell, why not add silent Rs and Ys while I'm at it. DX Besides I think I've seen people with very similar names before. That would be confusing...

Perhaps I should rename the character (Kerian? that would fit him too, AND mean one less A-starting name in the story) and take the Askerian name for myself, though I'm not sure I could stop associating the name and the character in my head. Perhaps I should stay with Asuka Kureru -- it's got some brand recognition that I'd probably lose otherwise...

At any rate people around here could still keep calling me Asuka. I've been going by Asuka so long I'd turn around in the street without thinking twice, so it's not like I'll be going OMG YOU CALLED ME BY THE WRONG NAME. But... I don't know. Been thinking about it, is all.

Reminds me a bit of a charm mentioned in Needful Things by Stephen King: azka. I know it's "z" instead of "s", but I was reminded of it by this entry.

I always thought the name "Askerian" was pretty.

But it's up to you. A lot of times when someone/something that's popular changes something about it, like a name or a sign or something, fans tend to be disappointed. They'll probably want you to stick with "Askerian"/"Asuka Kureru".

But different name or not, your art and stories will be just as good. =)

Though I'm wondering if it comes across as Ask-ah or Ass-ka or something. >_>;;;

In all honesty, with my accent, if I didn't know it came from Asuka? It would. Knowing it came from Japanese I use the fuller, rounder, "a" with it rather than my default harsher sort of nasal "a" sound.

Sadly, my accent means a lot of my original character names get stuffed with silent characters so I remember how I intended them to sound. :/

Ahska or Awska probably offends the sensibilities of the anti-silent character faction.

Drop the "A" and go with Oska or Ozka? :D

My own name here is a combination of the "fan name" I've been using online for 15 or so years, and my real name (because people are squatting on Tephra and Teph here at LJ, *grrrr*).

Name changes are kind of weird, yeah. My current journal isn't really much of a name/handle for me, though I expect new people I meet may start calling me by it, which will be weird. I still kind of identify as Sailor Comet. XD; It's a good thing I also introduced myself as "Sam" a lot of places because that carries over while I leave Sailor Comet behind.

So uh, I guess I don't have much helpful to say. If you change it, inevitably it'll take a while to adjust and you might never totally leave the old name behind. But hey, this is the internets! You can change your name far easier than in RL. 8D When I was in GW fandom, I knew one author who changed her handle every 6 months or year. (Maybe she kept them longer, but it sure seemed like she changed 'em quickly.)

I wouldn't worry too much about sounding weeabo though. Like [livejournal.com profile] garmiet above me said, whatever name you have, your art & all is still awesome. Judging you on a name is silly, and many of us have online handles we outgrow after a while. I know I'm not the only one who went by my preteen mary-sue name for years. I guess that's just part of the fun of choosing your own name online. XDb

...Cloudette and the yellow orb you say? My eternal weakness for genderbending fun is telling me to investigate this further....

Aww I really like Askerian, but I guess I understand. Though If you keep Asuka Kureru, I don't think it would be that bad, that is what a majority of your fans know you by.

If you don't mind me asking, what is your real name? I can't figure out what Kureru is supposed to represent, though I am not French, so I might never figure it out lol ^.^;;;

I...would pronounce Aska as ass-ka, tbh

(Also, my username is totally more weeabo than yours)

forgive my typos. I sliced the shit out of my finger earlier while cutting tomatoes and, aparently, being a scratching post...

Dun like Aska. Or.. it's okay, but it hits that weeabo thing for me. Why? well, it's not Japanese, no, but.. Ehm.. In Japanese, it's common to subvocalize or mostly drop the 'u' sorts of sounds.. desu is des', kuso is k'so, etc.. Asuka, given that treatment, is Aska. To me, it COULD sounds like someone went "that characters name is Asuka.. but.. everyone SAYS it's Aska. And that make more sense, so I'll call myself Aska."

Or, y'know, not... ^^;

Maybe.. play with the syllables or something? Akasu? Akuresu? Kuresuka?

Those all sound Japanese though...

I dunno. I've been having this same debate myself for years. my email and stuff all use a log in name of a character who I don't even like to think about anymore (bad RL experiences), and others.. other.. I've been the other for about 10 years. and while ColbyWolf fits me. at the same time... meeeeh.

perhaps you should take it from a different angle an try to come up with a completely new idea or name. Sometimes you really do just need to clear off he table, so to speak, and start from scratch.

As for brandname recognition.. I'm sure it wouldn't be too hard to transition. start signing fics as So-and-so, previously known as AsukaKureru... etc..

I dunno.

...I always think of you as Askerian, even though I should know better. But it's just what I see most often in relation to your name. Still, I can see why that would be a problem. You could try to play with that some? "ask" sound would still be there, which you like.

It looks kind of masculine to me though--if Askerian needed to come up with a name to pass with after being genderswitched, what would it be?

(...I'm clearly no good at this. Naming characters is fairly easy. But for handles and such? Bleh. If I had to rename my LJ at the moment, I'd probably end up being kappalicious. Which is just a ridiculous in joke.)

Can't help you with the name thing, as most people know me as Sailor Seraphim, which means I cannot say anything about any name EVER.

[identity profile] gothicstargrl.livejournal.com 2009-01-13 10:37 am (UTC)(link)
Probably unhelpful, but whenever I see your posts I say "Ashka-chama!" (Which is, er, basically Asuka-sama all cutesy babytalk-y, because I am fangirly and twee. XD;;;) So I always think of you as Asuka, and any variations of that would be easily recognizable in my opinion. ♥

And hey, you could always go the cliche fantasty route and put apostrophes in one variation, like As'ka or A'ska! And then you can get all furious and go into a capslock rage when people put the apostrophes in the wrong place. < /kidding> XD

Also also, when you mentioned upthread to someone that you hate most O-starting names, I got a very significant "*POUT* >:|" feeling from Orochi-borous. It was funny as hell. XD (I've been roleplaying for story purposes all morning, and whenever I've been in-character with him he's been SUPER dramaqueeny. Like, more than normal, if such a thing is possible. *grin* Even Bucket-suke is teasing him about it, and when an Uchiha is calling you dramatic, you might as well have the Tragedy mask stapled to your forehead.)

Because I found you by writing first (on mm.org) long before I found you on eljay, I always think of you as Asuka. Askerian was always The Eljay Name for me. And since I've had that association for so long, it'll probably be a hard one for me to break. That being said, though, I can understand the periodic urge to change one's name. My username at all the fanfic archives is lame. And my eljay handle was something I picked because everything else I could think of was unavailable. (it's supposed to mean nameless. hurr) But I've never really associated myself with it either.

So uh, basically I'm completely unhelpful, but I understand where you're coming from. :3

my little mind-voice always read asuka as three syllables - aska wouldn't be the same name to me. though i can understand kureru seeming a bit weeabo by now.

maybe asuka askerian? alliteration, brand recognition, and apparently well-used across all your accounts too. all in one so you get recognized easily in many places.

out of curiosity, what is kureru the romanji of?

Askerian always sounded like a species or culture. Like if someone asked:
"So, you're what exactly?"
The response would be:"

"I'm German!
or
"Who me? Why I'm East Asian"
or
"Didn't you know I'm Askerian?"

to be or not to be

[identity profile] ishanatur.livejournal.com 2009-01-18 05:03 pm (UTC)(link)
honestly, when i saw the name ahska i read it as ashka (first syllable emphasis) for the longest... and i really liked it that way. but i agree with others, you might lose a few fans if you changed your name plus i like both asuka kureru and askerian
but its up to you

[identity profile] lilai.livejournal.com 2009-01-20 09:13 am (UTC)(link)
