In the form of a long rambling IM convo with book_people that also touched on Kabuto, foreshadowing issues in the manga, and uh stuff.



Adi: ASUKAAAAAAA! ASUKA, HAVE YOU READ THE CURRENT NARUTO CHAPTER? BECAUSE I AM REALLY EXCITED ABOUT IT!

Adi: Oh, god, there is so many things. *___*
Adi: Itachi and Sasuke fighting together, and the mutual susanoo thing, and snake sage.
Adi: and Itachi telling Sasuke to be patient!
Askerian: haha yeah
Adi: and and and... oh my god!
Adi: *expires from happiness*
Askerian: i liked kabuto dangling sasuke's ex team before him, reminding him they existed. he looked a lot less "who the fuck cares bwahaha" about it
Askerian: probably his niisan's proximity makes him less sociopathic. XD
Askerian: though karin being an uzumaki...
Askerian: nagato being one was already a bit "huh" but now karin
Askerian: either that clan is huge and all redheads in naruto are related (hay gaara, hay sasori) or kishi needed a way to keep her relevant and pulled it out of his ass. idek.
Adi: Yeah, the Uzumaki thing was sorta bzuh
Askerian: i can sorta imagine if her parents were in hiding like nagato's parents and died that way and she was picked up by orochimaru
Askerian: but it's still a huge coincidence that later on she would meet sasuke and get in a team with him and stuff
Adi: I kind of interpreted Sasuke's look as partially "oh, y hello thur guilt" and "...why do I keep ending up with Uzumaki's by accident?"
Askerian: LOL yeah
Askerian: he's uzumaki catnip
Askerian: ... oh god sakura must be an uzumaki too
Adi: they all love him
Adi: XDDD
Askerian: her hair is kinda diluted red!
Adi: one of her parents is distantly an Uzumaki?
Askerian: pffmaybe
Askerian: but anyway itachi and sasuke
Askerian: fighting together
Adi: I knoooooow
Askerian: i REALLY loved that panel where itachi is holding a severed snake. because then i was like hold on a second he doesn't have a sword sasuke has the sword
Askerian: so basically in a fraction of second they coordinated
Adi: Sasuke was sorta going "hey niisan hey niisan lookit what I can do now!"
Askerian: BROTHERHOOD
Askerian: yeah, he was kinda hasty about it too XD and itachi was all "no slow down you'll fall and skin your knees"
Adi: I knoooow
Adi: oh my goooood
Askerian: (the translation of course sucked. but.)
Adi: well, he was sorta shooting arrows at nothing in particular
Askerian: pff yeah
Adi: Itachi was like "chill, kid. Not going to show up faster if you shoot arrows at him"
Askerian: i have to admit first when kabuto slithers out and he's like on all four on the ground i found it more pitiful hilarious than creepscary :-\
Askerian: hahahaha
Askerian: i still can't manage to read him as a credible threat
Adi: yeah
Askerian: he has something pathetic inside him. i dunno. no matter how powerful he gets he's flawed as a villain
Askerian: as a minion he was great
Askerian: but even now he's still a minion, is the thing
Adi: my favorite part was "I am hiding my eyes so you can't sharingan me--oh, now I am a snake sage and my eyes are uncovered." I sort of want them to go "that's nice. Thank you for making yourself vulnerable to our bloodline again. *snags*"
Askerian: i enjoy the heck out of him and tobidara backstabbing each other but on his own...eh

Adi: he's not really my favorite
Adi: I enjoyed him more when he was ambiguously Naruto!Dr. Mengele
Askerian: yeah
Askerian: that was fun
Askerian: or at the very beginning when he seemed scared of oro and oro was saying stuff about doubting his true loyalty but using him anywaaaayOH.
Askerian: i guess that could work as an obtuse sasori foreshadowing
Adi: yeah
Adi: hrm
Adi: meh. I was sad when he turned into a flunky
Askerian: kishi is not the greatest about things that might need foreshadowing. it either feels, or IS obvious, that he figured it out later. like the uzumaki clan being apparently kinda big, or jiraiya having had other students at all
Askerian: i found him scarier as a medic nin who used healing to fuck up people
Adi: yeah
Adi: and who did lots of creepy experiments on corpses
Adi: yeah
Askerian: it would have been easy for jiraiya to mention at some point he'd had other students in between minato and naruto
Askerian: just add one line. heck find a line that can use a plural
Adi: but he never did
Adi: yeah
Askerian: yeah, even when there would have been reason to
Adi: it feels really forced sometimes
Askerian: hmm
Askerian: also i'm still sad that so many people were brought back to life
Askerian: it made the scope of that war so EPIC
Adi: but right now I don't caaaaaare my boooooooys and snake saaaaaaage. ♥
Askerian: shizune isn't really essential to the plot, and kakashi was already having foreshadowing that he might not be 100% dead yet, and tsunade hadn't died, and hinata was saved in extremis, so all that was saved was a ton of random background assholes and a really cheap "no rly nagato was well intentioned so that makes him not a monster"
Askerian: also chouji's dad
Adi: yeah
Askerian: i guess that might have made him grow up earlier but honestly did his grow up arc need to be there in the war. hm.
Adi: it sort of made it cheap?
Askerian: yeah
Askerian: it was so fucking dramatic and epic and exciting
Adi: and then "nope. Nobody dies."
Askerian: and then handwave lol everything's fine AND you have to forgive the terrorist who did it all cause he sort of fixed most of it
Askerian: at the very least i would have liked it if he could only save people whose bodies were intact that he had soul-reaped with his creepsummon, not people crushed by rubble or chomped by his beast summons
Askerian: it'd just be a matter of putting the souls back in
Askerian: instead it was a really lame out of nowhere deus ex machina
Askerian: ... i have Feelings about this arc.
Adi: yeah
Adi: XDDD
Adi: no problem
Askerian: it was the best arc that did not contain any uchihas.
Adi: I think most people have Feelings about that arc
Askerian: and then it was quickly followed by the Sakura Get Back In The Kitchen arc.
Adi: oh god, isn't it sad that most arcs are rated first and foremost by "are there Uchihas"?

Askerian: and to think there are people out here who think the uchiha are useless to the plot. seriously remove it and you have... uh... a young boy goes to ninja school has ninja missions and maybe some relationship dilemmas?
Adi: ...yeah. I have to admit I sort of wanted eat someone during the Sakura Get Back In The Kitchen arc
Askerian: ngh -__-
Adi: yup
Adi: it's to the point where you can literally say that the vast majority of this story would never happen if Itachi had given Sasuke a heads up at any point
Askerian: compounded by sasuke stabbing karin and giving zero shit ...
Askerian: haha
Adi: yeah
Adi: well, I sort of chalked that up to "oh, look, boy's finally officially cracked"
Adi: can't blame him, he was exhausted mentally and physically and under a shit ton of stress and had recently been told that the thing he sacrificed absolutely everything for wasn't actually real
Askerian: yeah. didn't like that at all. it's hard to make a case for sasuke honestly caring for sakura and naruto still after he goes to kill her without a second thought and pretty much makes :? and >:| faces when naruto shows he still cares
Askerian: yeah but.
Askerian: fff
Askerian: i'm really clinging to the fact that in manga time it had only been a week at most since he almost went blind to save karin and his team from his black fire after flashbacking to team seven
Askerian: and that karin kept spamming the "his chakra feels really dark and not like the sasuke i know!!!"
Adi: well, except when he and Naruto had a chat in his soul he very clearly was regretful and thought there was no way out, instead of just being indifferent?
Askerian: it didn't ping me like that
Adi: hrm
Askerian: i might need a reread, i was kinda sore that sakura might as well have not been there at all
Adi: yeah
Askerian: i expect naruto to make a bigger impact but for her to make NONE...
Adi: yeah... that sorta annoyed me
Adi: I dunno
Adi: I think Sasuke's too caught up in his own pain to really acknowledge anyone else?
Askerian: yeah but still
Adi: which is why Itachi better not un-edo tensei before he has that talk, because Sasuke really needs to hear that this is the wrong course of action from someone he may actually listen to
Adi: ugh
Adi: I am probably mentally editing things to make them make sense considering previous characterization
Adi: *shrug*
Askerian: yeah XD

Anyway after that thanks to Adi I managed to unfuck Garden which had been stuck for the past three weeks, so I might go back to writing sometime soon! :D It was mostly a matter of allowing Gamzee to be a whimsical, poetic creep as he'd told me he wanted to be only I was trying to force it some other way. And then switching over to Jade POV. Jade deserves a POV, okay, she's cool and also funny and it'll work better like that, what took me so long srsly.

And I wrote a chatlog yesterday for the Homestuck In Robots thing, and I am still ridiculously in love with it. I'd spam people with quotes if it didn't spoil the chapter. Sadfaaaace. But at leats wanting to show it off is motivating me to get writing, so hey. XD NOW IF KARKAT WOULD COOPERATE. DX
