Monthly Word Count - July

Total: ... 8 762 words.

... that's all? self what on earth is wrong with you. DX It's about 4 000 words less than last month, which was ALREADY down 4 000 words from the previous month! My god, come september I'll hit zero if this goes on.

Note to self 1: AAAAAAAAAAAAA YOU HAVE BEEN PROCRASTINATING ALL OF LAST WEEK ON THE NEXT TEAMWORK SCENE WHAT THE HELL ASUKA.
Note to self 2: okay drabbles and scenelets are fun and low-pressure and whatever. BUT THE LONGFIC IS CRYING, ASUKA. CRYING.

I'm gonna be gone a week or two for summer vacation and with nothing else to do I seriously hope I'll finally sit down and plow through. It worked last year. But goddamn it, I'm not gonna post two teamwork chapters a year! I'll be forty-five by the time I finish the damn fic. Argh.

¤ Completed and posted:

-Teamwork 3 chapter 11 scene 1 (Sakura) (1 064 words)
-Locker Room Therapy - Naruto&Sakura (1 569 words)
-Dragons And Their Boys - How No-Name Got Heavyarms (691 words)
-FF7 Daemon AU - Ifalna (812 words)

¤ WIP:

-AtLA: Warmer Climates sequel, Jet POV (1 098 words; man I hate to stick too close to canon but Jet's crippled so he can't affect events much atm. DX )
-Restore: short connecting scene (636 words. Next scene's stuck.)
-Daemon AU, the divergence where the game doesn't even happen (582 words; scene's complete but it's spoiler for the game timeline so I can't post it yet)
-Sequel for Sanctuarium, the GW/SGA crossover. (1 123 words, it would help if I had a goddamn plot. DX )
-Daemon AU, the Cloud/Tifa/Aeris divergent timeline; City of the Ancients (1 116 words; scene's not complete and there's some confusing mindfucky things that I need to clarify some. Though eeeeeee I love it. I don't even care that I seem to be one of like four or five people who like clotiris, damn it. Y'all should love that threesome just for the pairing smush name alone. XD)
-Haru&Naru-chan Teamwork AU, sequel to the pornthing. (... 71 words. um. yeah. Not even worth teasering, either.)

¤ Teasers:

AtLA: Warmer Climates sequel

Suki he remembers from prison; she's alright. She's dangerous, but the calm kind, and he isn't her enemy. Teo is a cripple, which limits his dangerousness but doesn't negate it; what does is that he's peaceful and conciliatory. Jet could take him even now, cracked ribs and on bed rest and all. Also Teo likes The Duke, so he's all ready to like people The Duke likes. Haru is dubious about him (what a priss) but civil -- also, he doesn't linger, he has training. (Said as if non-benders don't.) Chit Sang Jet would chuck over the edge of the temple if he could, but he can't and anyway the moron firebender is pretending that now they're free everything is happiness and deericorns.

He'd take the idea of an armed truce better if he was armed, but all he's got is a blade long like his palm and too badly balanced to throw. The only thing that makes it safe is that the Avatar and Katara will enforce the peace, but it'll do him a world of good if they punish someone after that someone gets to Jet.

All in one he's still way better off than he was last week. There's little likelihood of physical confrontations, and the day he can't work a crowd is the day they cut off his tongue.

That's when something whistles through the air and Aang is up and swinging at it before Jet is done thinking 'oh shit'.

The explosion rattles the temple.

"If things go sour and they turn on us," said Cid. Cloud flinched, stared at him.

"Cid, what the hell." Zack and Aeris as enemies -- the very suggestion made him sick to his stomach.

"If things go sour," Cid repeated stubbornly, sparing him a quick glare, "I don't want you on Sephiroth. He'd be expecting you. I want you on your friend. He's a SOLDIER, right? We don't need that at our backs."

Cloud shoved his fists deeper into his pockets.

"... Did you hear me, Strife?"

The stern, scowling look Cid sent him there said, clear as day, 'you are not out of the doghouse yet.' Cloud reluctantly surrendered. "... Yes sir."

Daemon AU pre-game divergence

In some places Zack knows that it's seen as kind of rude and invasive to talk to someone else's daemon, especially in public and with people you don't know well. Wutai, for example, or in the richer circles of Midgar society. (Which is funny because both societies get hives when you find a point of comparison between them.)

In the army it's not that way, especially not in SOLDIER, but that's because you don't become SOLDIER in the first place if your daemon's going to be dead weight, and that includes being able to take orders and relay them. (Along with using Materia independently of your human, and fighting a variety of differently-sized, differently-shaped daemons.)

Zack knows of nowhere it's looked down upon to chat with your own daemon.

He never sees Sephiroth speak to his. Or look at him, either.

Heero didn't need the program to tell him so; the effect on his visual cortex was immediately obvious. Golden light that didn't exist anywhere but in his head bloomed into his field of vision.

The visual cortex was the easiest to reach and stimulate, and so the one that showed effects first and the most. The most obvious. The rest was... subtler.

ZERO didn't communicate in words.

Words were, frankly, slow.

(a waiting cursor blinking on a screen/input required/what do you need boy)

"Programming mode," he said out loud, eyes closed -- not that it made much of a difference to the decision trees trying to bloom past the tight grasp of his concentration. "Keyboard input only."

The gold faded out. Heero opened his eyes. The cockpit felt dark, even though his pupils hadn't dilated much.

>reboot settings

Last time he'd used ZERO had been in battle; he'd wanted it ready to go at a moment's notice. The current situation was too volatile; the goal was to avoid a battle. He didn't think he could fight very long, anyway, not with the Gundam in this state; the ZERO system was useless, before even "preserve my pilot" its first parameter was "how can I best annihilate the enemy". Heero couldn't figure out how to write out the system's first directive without having it all come crashing down in a mess of obsolete code.

'You know... Sometimes the only way to win is not to fight.'

He wondered what Relena -- no. He had a job to do. Threat levels to evaluate. No distractions allowed. He set things up so the ZERO system would reboot with a text interface next time as well, started typing, exploring new branches of the programming. ZERO was self-learning; sometimes its algorithms grew in strange directions. Sometimes they needed trimmed.

>show modif log from:[previous ADMIN logon] to:[current ADMIN logon]

Another flood of information that spanned well over six months. Heero's eyes tracked relevant changes, though truly he only needed a minute to confirm what he'd suspected. His hand paused on the keyboard, stretched slowly to pat the console, the gesture futile and a little sad and something he couldn't help even so.

When attacking Mariemeya's base Wing had given up everything, every last bit of juice its reactor had. Heero had hacked through every single safety protocol his machine had, so that in the end it blew through its own circuits even as it blasted down those huge bunker doors.

The thing was, the reactor was self-sustaining, as long as it still had one single drop of power to work with; without outside assistance it would take a couple of months to accumulate power enough to support basic functions.

The Gundam had been on standby ever since Heero had launched its remains into the sun.

Standby mode was not the same as a complete shutdown. For one thing ZERO still used the spare computing power; and the Gundam had had no tasks, not maintaining its course (it was traveling in a spaceship), not maintaining oxygen level (it had no pilot to sustain.) Just... running its clock. And running ZERO.

Daemon AU, the Cloud/Tifa/Aeris divergence
--

She almost stayed down on the dock. (An ordinary word for the only ordinary thing in that underground city of glass and sunlight and impossible stairs; solid dull stone under her feet, unmovable, steady.)

She hadn't felt anywhere near steady ever since the Temple. Breon either, for all that he was built to scale mountain sides that more closely resembled cliffs. She -- they... it was strange, and wrong, everything was. Cloud losing it (but she couldn't think about that, couldn't doubt him now, it would destroy him and she did, she did trust him, she had to) and Aeris leaving (why? Why? Didn't she deserve to at least know?) and this place that seemed to vibrate at the edge of her senses with songs she couldn't hear, that made her forearms prickle with gooseflesh anyway.

She watched Cloud and Skally leap from pillar to pillar, reach the stairs' landing, and she almost stayed behind.

(Sitting knee to knee, Simon breathing against her elbow, Breon's fur ruffling up the falling edge of a pink skirt. But that didn't mean anything, didn't merit a warning, I'm going somewhere, I'll be back soon, don't worry.)

Breon leaned his shoulder against hers, and his neck arched; he threw his antlers up, proud and regal. Her fists firmed. "It meant something to me."

"Tifs," said Barret, but she didn't listen to the rest. She jumped on the first pillar; Breon huffed out a silent laugh, gathered his hooves, and sprang straight to the second, passing her.

She did laugh, nervous and high-pitched, scared that she would intrude, be rejected. But taking the chance -- that was so freeing.

And then Cloud raised his sword over Aeris's bowed head.

Don't worry Suka! I'm sure you'll snap out of it! -_- I suck at inspiring people, sorry.
"-Haru&Naru-chan Teamwork AU, sequel to the pornthing. (... 71 words. um. yeah. Not even worth teasering, either.)"
That is not true. Your work is always worth teasering, ALWAYS.

That Restore bit is full of ow, Cloud having to be ready to fight Zack. :(

Regarding LJ and not letting you comment, have you tried deleting all your cookies from LJ and logging in again? I couldn't leave comments there until I'd done that (more than a couple times while LJ was up and down).

LJ Cookies in Firefox

[identity profile] 7scimitarroll.livejournal.com 2011-08-02 05:47 am (UTC)(link)
Caveat: I have Firefox 4.0.1 for Mac, so things may be different on your browser.

In Firefox, if you go to the privacy preference pane and click "show cookies," it will give you a list of the cookies stored on your computer, sorted by site. You can then select one or more cookies and click "Remove Cookie" to delete only those cookies without touching the others.

In Firefox in the File menu, select Options. Go to the Privacy tab. There should be a Show Cookies button. Click on any LJ url listed and hit delete (or click the remove cookies, not the remove all cookies, button).

No need to go looking for actual files or folders. :)

One day I will figure out how to explain how to delete cookies AND knit a sock heel at the same time. And then I'll get a lot more knitting/reading/writing done because I will have also figured out how to make kage bushin. XD

Urgh. I ended up deleting cookies about four times, but LJ was still unstable at that point. Make sure you got them all because LJ really, really loves handing out those cookies. I also had some comments that I left the page open in a tab figuring it would time out on me and it did eventually post, even though it didn't look like it had when I closed the tab several minutes later.

LJ doesn't love you anymore. :C

It might be time to open a support ticket, if you can. I'm fresh out of ideas, not that I have many good ones after 2am.

I shall wish you luck while I'm sleeping so that I may find many new comments by you on LJ later in the morning.

*hearts*.......*hugs*.........*KISSES*!!!!!!!!!!

I adore the way Jet is so super-paranoid and watchful, and darn I love Chit Sang....but of 'COURSE Jet would be distrustful of him! Heh....I don't have a seconds doubt though, that if Chit Sang had been WT or EK, he and Jet would have gotten along perfectly XD

I has no dreamwidth, and need no reply, so!

He wondered what Relena -- no. He had a job to do.
Sporfle. Dude, I love non-hating, but still Heero-like references to Relena so much. Give peace a chance? Nah. And the little pat, awww. Heero has emotions... Methinks the plot could be all about Heero joining SGA and kicking some Wraith butt, but that's probably not specific enough (also a xover pairing would be freaking awesome). Dang, now I do want a reply. Eh, message me if you feel like it.

Huh, hadn't considered his age, but the SGers are a generally moral, law-abiding lot (when not blowing things up and/or rescuing teammates ;) ), maybe another alien would have a different standard for dating?

I've only seen the child-soldier angle addressed seriously two times in my forays into GW fic, but it is a rather important point I'd love to read more about. (Heero in therapy! Oh, the stony silence.)

Ancient gene!Heero? Personally, I'm against it. It would make him over-powered and place him very obviously, in the SG world, at least, as the "hero" (re: Jack and John). While he's similar to them in their anti-socialness, he doesn't strike me as the law-abiding, good guy type. He'll always be a merciless terrorist to me.

Or, for kicks and giggles, he might have had it before Dr. J messed around with his genes. I'd love to hear your ideas on it.
