book_people is attempting to get into SasuSaku. But, uh, she hasn't had much chance with the fics on ffnet so far. Good fics must be hidden there, but how to find them? So!

Do you know of a good/great sasusaku fic (several sasusaku fics!) where:

-Sakura is not a permanent Damsel in Distres (and it's presented as ~romantic~)
-Sakura is not a Mary Sue with her personality quirks erased to make space for "cooler" things
-Sasuke is not a suave Seme or otherwise OOC as fuck
-Naruto is not an irrelevant pet rock that neither of them cares much about
-The plot is not lifted straight from a Harlequin novel or daytime TV
-""the raven" is not once used as a descriptor for anyone who is not, in fact, a bird"
-Canon world before AU but if the AU is awesome then rec away anyway plz.

I've a SasuSaku bookmarked that I adore, but it's future-fic and they're the only two in it.

So long as it's not giving the vibe that Naruto has fallen into a hole of not-caring, it's fine. XD They're also allowed to concentrate on their relationship. Link away! ♥

All of these are long, most have a sequel that isn't complete attached to it. The nice thing is that all of the above are complete so she doesn't get hooked and is left without resolution. I don't have a ton of SasuSaku fics mostly because I tend to ship Sakura with just about anyone but tend to prefer Gen fics and Friendship fics. These fics should be a good start and she should be able to peruse their faves to find more.

Blind might be a popular fic, but it kind of drags on and is WAY too long. It's better if your already a SasuSaku fan, not good for converting others imo.

However I must second the recommendation for Ripples by Yellow Mask. I shared that with two non-SasuSaku fans who enjoyed it very much. Anything by Yellow Mask (http://www.fanfiction.net/u/1033181/Yellow_Mask) is good (Biohazard, Daughter of the Land)

Also I enjoy Lady Hanaka's stuff the previous person posted.

Yeah, I'm not a big fan of Blind either; Pain gets utterly torn apart into a generic bad guy and you can tell when the author suddenly had to account for canon, since it began pre-Itachi's reveal.

I can't remember if they do the whole 'raven' thing, but quite frankly even if they do they're still awesome u.u. Also both these fics update rather slowly, so bear that in mind I guess.

I personally like Yellow Masks stuff, but some of her other stuff has Sakura a little OOC for what I think is good for a person trying to get into Sasu/Saku. But that may be me, I don't like too AU and some of Yellow Mask's stuff is just too AU. Basically if I can change the names and not lose anything I don't tend to like it as Fanfic.

Lady Hanaka I like period. She was the writer who made Itachi/Sakura workable for me.

Blind is long, but good. The plus side is that it is now complete which it wasn't when I started following it. Having to reread it to remember what happened was a pain. I actually didn't reread it until I got the nifty complete.

The problem with finding good Sasu/Saku is that most good writers seem annoyed at one or both of them and the people who seem to ship them seem very young. Sasu/Saku was actually the first 'ship I had in the naruto fandom and what lead me to Teamwork since I could not find a good fic that treated all of the characters right.

Now, I am pretty much open to most anything so long as it is good. Although I've discovered that I really don't like Harem fics, OMG! EVERYONE IS TEH GAY! fics, or High School AUs. But I think that has to do with realism and suspension of disbelief and when I start seeing this I can't suspend my skepticism.

Anyone else get the feeling that they've read through waaaay too many fics? :S It's sad going through rec lists and noticing you've already gone through *everything*.

Hopefully, these shall convert :). I'm not really a shipper at all. I lean towards gen and friendship fics. I aslo tend to go for Good!Fic no matter what it is--I find a good author can make you believe anything, or will make you want to believe in it ;). I thought I had more Sasu/Saku, but it's hard finding really good fic for them that isn't badly written or horribly cliched. I totally second the raven comment, haha. Fandom nicknames tend to annoy me, but if used sparingly and the rest of the fic is ok, then I can ignore it (Raven, duckbutt; pinkette, rosette, rosy-haired, pinky; variations on whirlwind--sunny, bright, and so on). Then fics that distinguish them based on Orbs (glowing, and swirling, and sparkling with deep, shimmery, mercurial pools). Gahhhh.

Also, I've found that Sasuke and Sakura tend to be one of the couples in Naruto that can easily fall into the broody and/or bad guy with girl-that-must-melt-his-heart cliche fic and their variations. Basically take any average/cliche fic with them, and it can be interchanged with any average/cliche fic in another fandom. Just switch the character names--Saku/Sasu, Saku/Itachi, Tenten/Neji, Kagome/Sesshoumaru, Hermione/Snape, Katara/Zuko etc...and yaoi too. :P (I've recently entered FFVII ficdom and have come across a few Cloud/Seph that could work lol)

I triple Ripples :P It's probably the best SasuSaku that I've read so far.

I fear i dont have much to offer in the way of grand SasuSaku fics, i really dont ship then in general, I just had to comment on, 'the Raven'. I swear to god, every time I read a Naruto fanfic and an author refers to Sasuke as 'The Raven' it just makes me wanna claw my eyes out. ^^

I definitely second Fox Magic by AkaiTsume Do not be put off by the premise. I was afraid of it being a cliche slave fic or maybe worse a fic where one character is all_powerful (the worst trap an author can fall in) But I was very pleasnatly surprised.
In this AU Sasuke is a little bit more stable than usual but still both arrogant and unsure at the same time. And the author did a very good job of writting Naruto that is both canon compliant and a lot older than Sasuke. I also like her Gaara very much. You should definitely give this fic a try

I'll keep my eyes out, for everything that's been asked, although mostly I just read the same authors over and over... It's been a while since I've actively searched for an unknown gem.

If I remember right, Beginnings by Raynekan is a kind of stealth Sasu/Saku (sorry, I just gave away the twist), and quite good for one of those 'go back in time' fics.

It's unusual in that they both care more about Naruto than each other (Sakura actually starts the fic rather despising Sasuke for reasons described in-fic relating to their future), but they do end up together.

That's all I've got; I'm not really a very big SasuSaku shipper. Although I could name some nice AMVs...

I've not read yet a Sasu/Saku that has this many caracteristics, but I've been reading some Naru/Sasu Sasu/Naru things^^

One I've read lately was "My 13" http://insanity-icons.deviantart.com/gallery/470556 The main Pairing is Naru/Sasu/Naru, and they are pretty much equal in the relationship (And seem to change back and forth the uke/seme role). The authors manage to keep the characters not totally OOC and what I really loved about this fic was how they wrote the romantic scenes.
The story can get a bit boring and forced, but the kisses and caresses make you feel the love and need of a boy/girlfriend (not in a XXX way, sadly). It's really cute.

If I remember another one I'll tell you.

There's this amazing one I found a few years ago, that gets Naruto, Sasuke, and Sakura amazingly right. Its extremely well written, and throws the characters into a chaotic but believable situation that forces them to change in dramatic ways while again staying true to the characters....

I think it was called Teammates or teamwork or something like that.

I don't think I have many NaruSasu/SasuNaru recs that would suite your taste. But I third "Fox Magic" and second "Fallacies of Altruism".

It starts with the idea that Iruka was killed by Mizuki, and things keep snowballing from there.
It's Gen; it is well-written, well-reasoned, the characters have actual personalities, and I hope that you might enjoy reading it (if you haven't already)
Also, it has Anko/Kakashi! And somehow, it works!.

The inside summary makes it sound like Shikamaru and Shino will be important, though, and I have just about zero interest in them or their bonds with Naruto (and only a little more in Kakashi's, to be honest, not toward Naruto alone). Also what-ifs aren't really my thing in the first place. XD;

the series here is not sasu/saku, but i like them because they are sakura-centric and have good sakura characterization. she's portrayed as smart and determined, and she takes a slightly different path than canon, studying under ibiki rather than tsunade.

again, none of this to do with sasusaku, but sadly these are among the few fics i have bookmarked with sakura even as a main character. the others are sakura/lee. i'm glad you asked for some recs, i'm going through the comments. i always thought this pairing would just be too painful to read, either because of the risk of bad writing, or on the other hand, the weight of such a heavy history that the two must necessarily have. but i like taking risks on pairings.
