Asuka Theater!

Family reunion this weekend! Dubious asuka is dubious, but.

Yay! good food. Yay! playing with the kids all afternoon, so I get bonus points from keeping them busy AND avoid grownup talk on politics and soccer and shit. Yay, letting grandmother cut a few inches from my hair because they're starting to fray at the bottom again! That lets her feel like she's slowly winning the fight to make me into a real girl, and gets her off my *hah* hair. I mean, it worked fine the first time i let her do this!

Asuka: I am somewhat confused as to why we aren't doing this in the bathroom this time around, grandma.
Asuka's grandma: Pshh, no reason. Sit. You'd look very good with short hair.
Asuka: No thanks grandma. If I could my hair would be DOWN TO MY ASS. (alas it always frays by the time it's shoulderblade length boohoo.) Maybe an inch or two under shoulder length?
Asuka's grandma: hm hm hm. Shoulder length! It's only an inch or two, it would grow fast AND be more healthy for your hair!
Asuka: ... Well, that IS only an inch or two. Okay, shoulder length. Hm, but I find it somewhat frustrating that I can't see what you are doing on account of the lack of mirrors in the kitchen.
Asuka's grandma: Bah! It'll be a surprise.
Asuka: But shoulder length, grandma!
Asuka's grandma: Of course, of course. *clip clip clip*
Asuka's cousin: oh, haircut, how ni... um, grandma, that's a little short, isn't it?
Asuka's grandma: Pshh! Not at all. It's shoulder length! >__> Also it's not like I can glue it back on.
Asuka: *... um. glue what now*
Asuka's grandma: LOOK FORWARD AND STOP MOVING. *clip clip clip*
Asuka: ... >__>;
Asuka's cousin: ... well I think it looks very nice! really!
Asuka: ... >_____>;;; ???
Asuka's grandma: There! done.
Asuka's cousin: ... oh yes, it suits you pretty well! Um. It looks very cute.
Asuka: *turns her head* ...
Asuka's grandma: :DDD ?
Asuka: GRANDMA. WHY DO I FEEL AIR ON THE BACK OF MY NECK GRANDMA.
Asuka's grandma: :DDDDDDDDDDDDD Tadahh!
Asuka: *rushes to bathroom & mirror* ...
.......
.............
AAAA
I KNOW I HAVE A SHORT NECK BUT IN WHICH WORLD DOES SHOULDER LENGTH = JAW LENGTH
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

Asuka's grandma: Hmph! you look much prettier in this style, which incidentally I've been badgeting you about for years. See, you should have stopped being all "no grandma i like my long hair just fine thank you" years ago!
Asuka: AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
Asuka's grandma: Oh, shush. ... Wait a second, this side is longer than the other side.
Asuka: oh fine, i do so like being symmetrica--aaaaaaa now i can barely tuck my bangs behind my ear aaaaaaaaaaaa I WILL NEVER TRUST YOU AGAIN.
Asuka's cousin: ... no, really, it looks cute! daughter-dear, tell her it looks cute.
Asuka's cousin's kid: ... :/ well um. i like long hair better. ... for me i mean, for other people it's um, nice i guess. i just. like it long. mine i mean. yeah. OH LOOK THEY ARE PLAYING WITH DOLLS BRB :DDD;;

Asuka: *GOES HOME HOMG* HEY BROTHER >:( *barges into brother room*
Asuka's brother's girlfriend: hey asukOMG WHAT HAPPENED D:
Asuka: ... HAH. >:E
Asuka's brother's girlfriend: ...?
Asuka: See, you're sometimes a bitch, but that's why I know I can trust you on this.
Asuka's brother: *knows nothing of fashion!* *doesn't give a shit about what people look like!* ... isn't that... a bit short... D:
Asuka: *VINDICATED DAMN IT* >:E >:E >:E ... T____T I am never leaving the house again.

I eventually gave in and went for jaw length, and it does actually make me look like I have a neck, but it was voluntary. And I eased my way into it going a bit shorter every trim/cut so that it took over two years to get from below the shoulder blades to above the collar.

I am having sympathetic D: for you.

Check, check, and check on the shoulders, jaw, and fleshiness here, but I also have baby fine hair with all the volume of a deflated balloon. XD Short hair makes me look like I have more hair, and a neck, I like having a neck. I'm guessing you are blessed with thicker and more voluminous hair.

Shorter than jaw length doesn't on me either.

And if your hair is as fine as mine then even shelling out for extensions probably wouldn't work out that well. The one time I had extensions they ended up pulling out some of my hair. :C Maybe a "half wig" hair piece that you could blend with your own hair and add some length back with until you grow it out?

[identity profile] mikkeneko.livejournal.com 2010-06-21 05:28 am (UTC)(link)
Man, I am just a bit confused as to why your grandma thinks that shorter styles are more feminine. I mean, usually it's the other way around. XD

[identity profile] editrixfox.livejournal.com 2010-06-21 05:40 am (UTC)(link)
Probably old enough to remember the Roaring Twenties. Short hair on women was considered feminine at that time. As long as it was wavy. or styled somehow. I used to have hair to my lower back. I got it cut a year ago for Locks of Love and it's already grown out a good four inches. But I'm doing lots of outside work now, so I'm thinking about getting it cut really short so it's out of my way. T.T But I would hate it if someone went and cut my hair short without my permission. So I feel for the Asuka's woes

[identity profile] yira-heerai.livejournal.com 2010-06-21 05:48 am (UTC)(link)
Can you put your hair in a pony tail or does that give you a headache like it does me?

[identity profile] editrixfox.livejournal.com 2010-06-21 05:56 am (UTC)(link)
I sport a Wufei-esque ponytail for work, 'cause I work in a restaurant, but I leave it loose when I can.

...Damn, your grandmother's stubborn. And sneaky.

I'm sorry :(

"Oho no! You're not getting that anywhere near this!"

He is wild in his shouting; frantically and stupidly loud as he points a finger at the kunai in Sakura's hand and another -was he actually caressing his hair?

Sasuke attacks Naruto from behind, hand going to his mouth and ignoring the prick of unshaved stubble tickling his palm. "Be quiet, you idiot." His growled order is only met with another and that tickles at his palm too. They've lost their target three times already and Sasuke is not in the mood to lose it a fourth time. They were on a deadline. Sakura knew this.

"We don't have time to deal with this." There's a grunt of agreement and a vigorous head nod from his soon-to-be-dead teammate if he doesn't quit freaking out over this stupid thing.

"Sasuke," she starts blandly, "do you really want to catch this guy looking like we've been after him for two weeks?"

He cooly raises an eyebrow. They shaved and bathed when they had the chance. She knew this too, if the smile she gave them after they returned from a hasty bath was any indication. Or the way she always had supplies ready for whatever facial knicks they showed up with (shaving with a kunai and water for a mirror left for more mistakes, after all).

The expression was expertly read and interpreted. Her own annoyed sigh was read and interpreted as a single exasperation and a mental "Men."

"Naruto's hair is getting long enough to make him look like a hobo."

"He always looks like one."

That got him an elbow to his ribs and a grunt of protest.

"Yours isn't much better."

A muffled "Ha!" and a blow to the back of Naruto's head.

"So?"

Green eyes are determined as she takes in a deep breath, squaring her shoulders and arching her back. "You'll feel better, be able to see better and I'll have something pleasant to look at."

Sasuke and Naruto share a mutual Ouch before Naruto finally bats Sasuke's hand away, stalks up toward Sakura with an equally determined face, and takes the kunai from her. The negotiations have been reached: they'd agree, but they'd cut their own hair, dammit.

As for why Naruto didn't move sooner, he either a.)secretly liked it, b.) knew he'd just yell more and lose their chance or c.)...idk D: *crawls in a hole*

Long-time lurker unlurking. :D You lured me out of hiding with talk of hair. It's a shame your hair gets split ends so easily. I'm guessing you've already tried some sort of strengthening shampoo/conditioner in the past?

I have the much coveted DOWN TO MY ASS hair and then some. Fortunately I can trust my mother to trim off a few cms once a year without going overboard. This story is the stuff of my nightmares. XD At least... it will grow back.

[identity profile] ithilgwath.livejournal.com 2010-06-21 06:34 am (UTC)(link)
:( I'm sorry sweetie. I had a barber to that to me once.. and since my hair is curly, once it dried it was up around my ears. *hugs* At least hair does grow, though.

warning--I got long winded...

[identity profile] ithilgwath.livejournal.com 2010-06-23 08:27 am (UTC)(link)
Well, if you want some help in that...
hmmm, lets see if I remember all of them right... There was ways to make your hair (and also your nails) grow faster and not as prone to breaking. Mostly they deal with making certain foods or vitamins more a part of your regular diet.

-So long as you aren't vegan, I recommend gelatin as the number one. It strengthens hair and nails so they are less prone to breaking. Actually, gelatin can be absorbed topically to a certain extent, though that seems to work more on nails than hair. I don't recommend the pre-packaged dessert-type of gelatin, though (waaay too much sugar!). If you aren't fond of the taste of plain, natural gelatin consider using a 1:1 ratio of 100% fruit juice and water to reconstitute the powder. You can also use meat stock for a more savoury result. My sister-in-law makes a really good one using fish stock.

-B vitamins are also super good for letting your body grow hair and nails more quickly. If you can find a vitamin B complex supplement that, will work best, rather than taking 12 different pills. As a good side-benefit, these also keep your energy up, and your moods stable. (but as an FYI, they have a tendency to turn your urine very bright yellow. Like a hi-liter. Don't be alarmed--it's normal). Natural ways to get the Bs--oily/fatty fish like herring, tuna, salmon, sardines, and mackerel; liver; pate; eggs; milk; hazelnuts and cashew nuts; even wheat bran. Many of the B vitamins one come from animals, though, so if you don't eat meat, supplements are pretty much the only choice for some of them.

-Vitamin A (Beta-carotene) is also very good, though I don't actually recommend a supplement for this one (it's actually rather easy to OD on it, since the body stores any extra). But eating yellow and orange fruits and veggies is the way to go--peaches, yellow and orange peppers, carrots, pumpkins, mangoes, paprika (which also has vitamin B12 in it), etc... the more orange-y, the higher the beta-carotene content.

-Omega oils, such as the ones found in the fatty fish already mentioned, as well as found in flaxseed, are also very good for growing hair. (Also really good for your joints and liver.)

Re: warning--I got long winded...

[identity profile] ithilgwath.livejournal.com 2010-06-23 08:27 am (UTC)(link)

-Vitamin E is also good for hair, nails and skin. Taken as a supplement or food OR as a topical treatment. When I was young and on the swim team they would give us all little bubbles of vitamin E to put in our hair after getting out of the pool--this kept our hair from getting brittle and bleaching out from the chlorine. Also, vitamin E sticks are excellent as a lip balm, and work pretty darn well for healing any cracks from dry skin anywhere on your body. So basically it amounts to--eat the vitamin E and get your hair to grow, wear the vitamin E and keep it from breaking. ;) Foods rich in vitamin E are nuts and seeds, also olive oil; but actually the best source is tomatoes--fresh, canned, sauced, doesn't matter, it's all good.

-Nettles. Nettle is so full of so much good things that it needs it's own bullet. It's chock full of minerals like calcium, magnesium, iron, potassium, phosphorous, manganese, silica, iodine, silicon, sodium, and sulfur--all of which are good for in you in a general sense, and many of which are good specifically for growing hair and nails. For vitamins Nettle is rich in vitamin C, vitamin A, and a bunch of the B vitamins. In addition, they are so high in protein I've joked that they can't really be a plant. I really recommend Nettle Tea, but the supplements work fine, too. You shouldn't really need more than 50mg a day as a supplement, but seriously, Nettle is SO healthy for you. You can also eat the leaves (though getting the stingers off can be a pain... no pun intended) as a side dish or in soups. I could seriously go on about Nettles for pages, but I think I'll stop now--you get the gist, I think.

-In general, a diet high in protein will result in faster-growing hair and nails. Which makes sense when you think about it since that's all your hair and nails are--dead protein.

-Now here's the one most people look at me funny for. Take the time to meditate, or just relax. Stress hormones (cortisol and norepinephrine and adrenaline) both limit hair growth and cause hair to fall out. Taking some time each day to simply relax and unwind goes a long way to having healthy hair. By association, getting plenty of sleep also ensures lower stress levels and healthier hair (and healthier everything else, for that matter).

Ok... that... came out a lot longer than I intended it to (needs TWO posts? oy...) ^///^ But hopefully it offers some help. All of these things are considered healthy in a very general sense, but buffing up on them will have a more concentrated effect on what you want.

Re: warning--I got long winded...

Stress hormones (cortisol and norepinephrine and adrenaline) both limit hair growth and cause hair to fall out.
I can verify that. When my first cat was killed by the neighbor's dog, I got so stressed out and upset over it that I lost about half my hair. It was the first death I'd ever had to deal with, in case you're wondering why I got so emotional over a cat. But there you are, stress can definitely do damage on the small as well as large scale.

[identity profile] leahnari.livejournal.com 2010-06-21 07:17 am (UTC)(link)
... I don't want to be raging, nor is it my business, but... shit, that's not cool. Pushing an issue you've clearly decided your preference on, and violating your trust to get her way. WTF.

Don't get your hair cut by her again. Show that that is not okay.

...

Neither of my grans have ever gone that far on anything, but I guess this feels familiar enough to still really rub me the wrong way. >_>; Sorry.

Hope it grows back fast, or you find something interesting to do with it. Maybe dye might be cool?

... Yeah, seeing her again so soon? I'd be going for the synthetic dreads, a full head of them in a bunch of unnatural colors. But I'm spiteful like that.

[identity profile] dbzlives.livejournal.com 2010-06-21 09:21 am (UTC)(link)
It's only an inch or two, it would grow fast AND be more healthy for your hair!

What? Her argument doesn't even make sense. Hair does not work that way. Hair grows from the root, so cutting off the dead, non-growing ends won't make it grow any faster.

[identity profile] uneko.livejournal.com 2010-06-21 11:01 am (UTC)(link)
Oh god. I'm so sorry sweets.

I had the same thing happen to me. Only, well, it wans't like that at all (XD) but it was.

A couple friends had been PUSHING and PRESSURING and WHEEDLING me for ages to wear my hair short like they did. I actually had lower back length hair... but.. "go short, go short" so I finally gave in.. . because I was feeling very emotionally vulnerable at the time and I wanted to make my friend happy...

So I said "okay... but I want it kinda like this" and I showed pictures, and stuff... I had several pictures... and it wan'st hard to understnad either... what i wanted was kinda like this: http://www.aaa-fashion.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/05/2009-bob-haircut2.jpg Long in front--like, collarboneish, and short up in the back, with a diagnal line cut between the two.

When she was done? it was JUST barely below my chin in front and maaaaaybe an inch shorter in the back? It was so hard to smile and say "Oh yes. It's lovely, thank you."

Thankfully, it's about 2 years later, I've had it trimmed up once, and its' now... Oh.. somewhere between collarbone and boob length? I've started to consider leaving it about this length...

but...

I dunno.

Though.. or your hair, since it IS all said and done and can't be glued back on... Those first few showers where you only have to use a itty bit of shampoo are awesome :D and getting it all brushed out in the morning is pretty awesome too.

Of course... I'd rather have long hair.... BUT...

[identity profile] midnigh-unicorn.livejournal.com 2010-06-21 01:00 pm (UTC)(link)
The only person who's ever done damage to my hair is me. My gramma used to trim my bangs everytime she saw me even though I SAID I wanted to grow them so I could tuck them behind my ears, but I was about seven and not THAT concerned about it. But Christmas 2005 I got pissed off at a huge knot in my hair, so I pulled my hair--about midback length--into a ponytail and hacked it off about an inch from the hair tie. Unevenly.

Took almost two years for it to grow out >>

And then for my senior prom I decided to do some of those sections of hair with the thread wrapped around them. Looked nice, but three days later? The damn hair brush again, couldn't get it through without some painful manipulation. So again I cut them about an inch from my scalp

Oh my god never again.

We called them duck tufts, those short little bits of hair stuck nearly straight up and I didn't even notice for TWO DAYS at school. Fortunately my hair was long enough to pull back again, so I'd gel them down, but a) sometimes they'd still pop up and b) I looked like half my head was plastered 'cause I have no styling finesse ~___~

So, at least your shit is even, I have to say, and yes, it WILL grow back.

[identity profile] questofdreams.livejournal.com 2010-06-21 01:23 pm (UTC)(link)
omg @_@ AAAH NEVER TRUST THE GRANDMA AGAIN LMAO

On the bright side... it'll grow back? >_>;;

I cut my hair to just above shoulder length about 8 years ago... never again @___@ Short hair on a lot of women just makes their faces look rounder, and that was the same with me. Took me years to grow it back out.

Sneaky grandmother is sneaky! D:

Hair is not something to be messed with lightly, yes it does grow back but not immediately and what about in the meantime?! (And as far as bad haircuts go, waiting for the hair to grow back can be a very MEAN time.) u.u

I even get miserable when my hair dresser messes up and I have a pixie cut!

Hope it grows out quickly or you find a way to make it work for you :)

ZOMG I CAN TTLY UNDERSTAND HOW YOU FEEL. That's an awful thing to do! I've got long hair and it's weird how every single person who comments on it would go on to ask why I don't cut it. Erm, I've had it for more than fifteen years... I think it's safe to say that I like it this way, right?

(Anonymous) 2010-06-21 04:28 pm (UTC)(link)
Could you try hair extensions, maybe? And, I feel your pain, I've only had my hair above shoulder length, when my mom convinced me to donate my hair to make grandmother a wig ^^;; so they had to cut most of it off.

Your grandmother is very sneaky!

If it is any consolation, I personally prefer short hair so I'm sure it looks fab on you! Also, it'll grow out a bit soon so it'll look more natural-ish and less short! You should probably not let your grandmother with scissors around you though in the future. @___________@

haha, oh god. My cousin did something like this to me a couple years ago. I love my hair long. It's very thick and somewhere closer to the base of my spine than it is to the top with very little split ends. I've wanted to grow it out for as long as I can remember, but everytime I go have lunch with Shane it turns into an impromptu haircut and dying session. I think it's pretty, but he's all like "Oh well, I just want to give you some layers and make it look like it's not all this weight on your head... *snip snip*"

And then I look in the mirror and he did not give me layers. D:

So complete sympathies, my dear. Hope it grows on you over the next couple months?

Ah-um. If you're trying to grow out your hair, but it keeps just getting split ends and breaking off before it gets long, reading and following this (http://www.longlocks.com/how-to-grow-long-hair.htm) helped me go from "...It's...feathery?" to "OMG so long and shiney" (Took seven years, but then again my hair grows maybe an inch every two months). Along with their genereal suggestions, specifically this stuff helped me so goddamn much I worship it >.> Along with this (http://www.etsy.com/listing/48480522/triple-moon-hair-anointing-oil-12oz) hair oil that the shop also sells.

There's also this (http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/index.php) for a bunch of recipes and stuff.

Oooh, I hear you. I've spent most of my life growing my hair out, even though I know it looks cute with a bob, and is just kind of thin and fine and boring because I am not a morning person and therefore never wake up in time to do anything with it.

When I was six, lice was going around school, and I got it twice. The first time I carried on so much that my Mom let me keep my long hair (IIRC it was hip length). The second time, she made me cut it to my chin. I cried the entire time we were at the barber.

I've been trying to maintain waist to hip length for several years, but the hair dressers keep cutting off an inch to get rid of split ends, so it's currently about mid-back. Mrr. At least it's still long enough that I can do pretty good Aerith hair without a wig. (Since cosplaying Aerith is the only time I ever style my hair in a way that takes longer than 8 minutes, I just bring pictures of her to the hair dresser to show what length to make the face framing strands. Funny looks galore! Teehee.)

OMG She cut your hair!? My hair IS past my ass and I still have people trying to cut it (MOTHER >:E ) I don't know if you have curly hair my mine is straight and that may call for things to be done differently but I can offer you some simple things you can change that really helped me keep my hair in shape.
Hair-ties: If you can, get the ones that are NOT joined by the metal clasp as it grabs the hair and snaps it off. Look for the "seamless" ones.
Conditioner: The best advice I ever got was from a hair dresser who told me to be sure to squeeze as much water as I can from my hair before I put conditioner in and it helps it absorb more (I have no proof but it really seems to have worked. Also I find that swapping you conditioner every once in a while stops your hair from somehow getting immune (???? I dunno after a while the same conditioner will stop working as effectively for me)
Brushing: the "rib-like" hard brushes pinch at your hair and cause breakage, try a brush where the hard bristles are set into soft rubber. (Really un-technical I know x.x I have no idea of the names.) Also rough brushing or tugging out knots cause breakage and split ends, when brushing start from the bottom of your hair and slowly work your way up; see if you can tease out knots rather than yanking on them.
Clothing: Things like velvet hold onto your hair and encourage knots which lead to split ends; also beware of things like buttons and zippers on the back of coats (and eventually pants lol) as they lead to painful snags.

Wow! Talky for a lurker I know! I just support the plight of a girl fighting against the odds for long hair! GOOD LUCK AUSKA!!!!
