Both with how Kishi used to draw him and off in general, especially the way he does fur -- it looks like the bristling chin hair of a teenage kid who forgot to shave. The whole thing looks like bad furry art, the way it doesn't mesh, just a guy with a fox mask. urk.

I 100% agree with Saro there. Dying in childbirth would have been okay if she wasn't really involved in things, a quick, cheap but believable "sucks but it happens" thing for when you want to quickly explain it all away -- but she was the previous Kyuubi jinchuuriki ! she's relevant to the plot! And she should have had such a convenient, "good dead wifey/mom" cliche "tragic" one-liner death? Shit, having the Kyuubi ripped out of her would be 110% better! Or at least have her dying in childbirth BECAUSE the birth was provoked by losing the Kyuubi so brutally and she only managed to stay alive long enough to have her kid because she refused to die just right then, or something! Fuck.

if Kishimoto fumbles it I will be so pissed. I haven't been truly interested in a naruto character in so long.

Given that one of the attributes of being a jinchuuriki is an OMG healing factor, I can't imagine that something as mundane as childbirth would kill her. I'm going to be pissed at Kishimoto if he oh-so-conveniently forgets that.

huh. that's a very good point. unless she wasn't a jinchuuriki anymore by the time he was born it doesn't make sense this would kill her, unless it went spectacularly wrong.

Which she wouldn't be if Madara had ripped Kyuubi out of her. But has Kishimoto thought about that? He seems to have some rather large blind spots where women are concerned. :P

Didn't Gaara's mother die in childbirth? It was treated like a pretty big part of why he was so crazy, so that must be relatively rare in the Narutoverse or it wouldn't have been mentioned. (Although the sealing of Shukaku =/= sealing of Kyuubi)

I don't think so, I think it was relevant because Gaara basically killed his mother by being born and that was the reason of her hate. As far as we know Hinata's mother might have died from having Hanabi and that's why we never saw her or heard a thing about her; since she's not relevant to Hinata's or Neji's themes she's just never alluved to. Gaara's mother having died as a result of having him was relevant to why he was so fucked up.

This is true, however, it was not his mother who was the jinchuriki, but gaara himself. And he was jinchuriki BEFORE he was even born, that would put an enormous strain on any mother. As for her dying in childbirth, well it is kinda important to remember that for a long time, Gaara believed his mother had loved him and only found out differently when his uncle, his mother's brother, tried to kill him and told him she had died hating Gaara. That's the major thing that drove him over the edge. In Naruto's case his mother was jinchuriki before him, and he only became jinchuriki AFTER he was born. She would have been much stronger than any normal woman, and being a (relatively) normal baby, he wouldn't have put any more strain on her than any other baby.

In the long run, the only reason I can see for Gaara's mother dying in childbirth is the presence of Shuukaku in Gaara.

I agree so much about Kyuubi's bone structure!
But, somehow, when Naruto tells him not to worry, it feels like he's planning to do something and fix up Kyuubi in the end, too. Dunno if his heroics apply to murderous demons, but the eight-tails seemed redeemable, so who knows? Anyways, it seems convenient, since, to me, Kyuubi's whole "don't make me angry, Naruto" sounded like foreshadowing.

Also agree on Kushina needing to have died a badass death. Maybe having Madara as her killer would help further the plot, and draw another parallel between Naruto and Sasuke on having their parents murdered?

As for Kushina's revelation, at first I thought she was already Kyuubi-free when she came to Konoha and met Minato... but then I realized she most likely kept the demon until Naruto's birth (because where would kyuubi go, wait outside in stand-by?)...Maybe she didn't 'awaken' the power when she was too young, much like Naruto did before twelve (thus Minato saving her). u.u I can't put pieces together aaaah I want next chapter RIGH NOW.

But 16yrs ago Kyuubi got free...so Kushina died from that, I think, not from childbirth. Who released the Kyuubi now, if it was wanted from her and Minato or caused by someone else...IDEK. I suck at theories anyway so I won't try to guess. o.o

I might be wrong, but I got the feeling that Naruto was trying to tell the Kyuubi that he wasn't going to hurt him, not that he wasn't currently. AKA that now that Naruto had basically total control (from what I gather) he wasn't going to torture him for shits and giggles (which a lesser person might considering that the Kyuubi is largely the source of their pain).

I feel the need to say something about the whole "ouch Kushina's leaving" thing, because I've seen a lot of people who are all awwwwwe about it, and it seems sort of strange to me.

Kushina's dead. Naruto might be sad to lose her again so quickly, but it doesn't really seem like it can be that terrible when by following after Minato it actually means, and now it's time for us to rest in peace together or whatever. It's sad, sure, and I'm sure Naruto would hope to have more time, but this whole thing is hanging on after she's dead anyway for a purpose.

Every second of it is already a bonus. I just can't get into the "b'awwww, she's already leaving?" mindset.

I didn't expect her to stay more than a couple chapters, considering she's dead and all, but she's so cute with her son and Naruto needs love so much that I can't help but wish she could have stayed. I don't think people honestly expected her to magically come back for good, even just as a denizen of Naruto's Head, and Kishimoto certainly couldn't have undermined his "on the cusp of adulthood" hero by giving him a mommy now, but still, it's a little sad.

Since when Kushina chained down Kyuubi, he said "This chakra?!", I'm going to guess her special chakra is not Kyuubi related. I was going to theorize that since Naruto got all Six-Paths sagey with the necklace tattoo and whatever was that technique was, that she was a descendant, but I then I remembered the whole two sons that became Konoha and arg.

I guess it's a good thing this was revealed before it jossed the story I'm working on? I thought the fox was actually unhosted for a while before Naruto.
Then again, there was nothing actually saying it didn't have a host.

I hope next chappie answers some questions. Such as HOW DID THE UCHIHA GET BLAMED FOR CALLING THE KYUUBI OVER IF IT HAD A HOST? Could any of them besides Madara actually do that? And now that we know she was made of iron and regenerated like her kid, I also hope Kushina didn't simply die in childbirth. I will facepalm and denounce.

I really didn't see this particular revelation coming..very curious to see what happens next. I'll be sad to see Kushina go, even though she deserves her rest and all; I'm just enjoying her character in a way that I haven't in a while with Naruto.

Hmm, I got the impression that he would be back to sooth the Kyuubi. Gosh darn it, I hope they can patch things up, because I really wish they could kick it like Killerbee and Hachibi. Also, I thought I might mention that Kyuubi uses a male prounoun in the times he's referred to himself. Not trying to rain on your parade. Excellent commentary as usual and I really enjoyed it. i hope he and kyuubi come to an understanding too but the way kishi has treated him like a convenient source of power instead of a character in its own right from the start, it's probably gonna be a half-hearted "because i have to write it to get to the next level" plot. meh. T__T
