On one hand, D'AWWWWWW.
On the other hand. SINCE WHEN. We knew Naruto was looking for a father figure, he was all "watch me, Fourth" when he was like 12 and he had his trying kakashi to pay more attention to him and Iruka (does he count as a father figure tho XDD) and Jiraiya. but his mom, or a need for motherly cuddles? NOT ONE HINT.

Meanwhile in the outside world, Naruto is sitting eyes closed, doing a Zetsu with one half of him human and the other four-tail'd.


6. Naruto: *suddenly realizes here is someone he can talk at about his greatness for like three days and she's just about required by law to smile and nod and say "of course you're amazing, Naruto!"*
Alas! Kushina wants to kick some Kyuubi ass. So maybe later, kk?

I dun liek how Kishi has been doing Kyuubi's torso in recent chapters. It's way too humanlike, I don't know, it looks wrong. ;__;

"I'm sorry you ended up with my face" !! okay due to kishi's style it doesn't show very much XD Minato's eyes are way more narrow but that's all that shows through the style, but it's still neat to know how things in-universe are supposed to look. Also LMAO at the image of Naruto with Kushina-style floppy hair. Oh god so wrong. XD


9. "you're only the second man to compliment me on my hair." really? but it goes down to like her knees.

13. joisbishmyoga: Though I'm kinda getting a little... well. Sometimes it's like everybody wants to be the effing Hokage, and to have both of Naruto's parents be/want to be Hokage kinda takes away from his determination to be. Like "huh, it's apparently no great childhood revelation from admiring the Third, it's somehow just genetic".
askerian: yeah, i know. ... i'd love it if minato got the idea from kushina. XD

Minato's goal for the future: "I want everyone in the village to acknowledge me and become a great Hokage!" :D
... Damn, he didn't. That's Naruto's goal word for word, too. But now they get to be RIVALZ!!!

Huh, the hidden Cloud gets around re: kidnappings. Apparently Kushina's chakra was "a bit special"...
She tears off her hair to mark a trail! .. were the big mean ninjas not watching for her leaving a trail? huh.


15. Minato is the only one to notice her hair lalala~ woohoo bride-style carry-off because it's totes her legs that were tied up~

i was kinda hoping she would rescue herself but in a shounen manga that was maybe expecting a bit much. A girl saved by a guy : "ooh he's so handsome and i'm so grateful." A guy saved by a girl : "... shit i'm not manly anymore."

sarolynne: I wasn't thrilled with Kushina needing rescuing. And I'm sure the fandom will biiiiiitch about it. But at least she was SOMEWHAT proactive about getting rescued. She wasn't totally passive.

sarolynne: She left a trail--and Minato was smart enough to recognize it. It doesn't speak highly of the other ninjas' tracking skills that they didn't. But at least that makes it somewhat collaborative.

On the one hand, WOW there were some majorly Oedipal overtones in there, NARUTO STOP HITTING ON YOUR MOTHER but on the other hand, Kushina is so amazingly badass... except for when she had to get rescued bride-style by Minato. Like you said... guess it's too much to expect of a shounen manga that a supposedly badass female be able to get herself out of shit. But at least she beat the motherloving shit out of the bullies! It's something!

God I love this chapter too.

Though I wish there had been more foreshadowing about Naruto wanting to meet his Mom, it's not too weird that he hasn't talked about it out loud (though we the readers could still have know this). Naruto might be worried that it's too girly to tell anyone that he wants his mom.

Though I was wondering what the fuck the other ninjas were doing not to notice a trail of red hair, I mean, they have dogs and people who are trained to track people who don't want to be followed. You'd think they were used to looking for more difficult clues.

But even if they didn't expect it, how do they explain not seeing it at all. They know they're looking for a girl with long red hair, finding even one long red hair which might have fallen out by accident should be extremely significant.

My only explanation is that they let Minato rescue her because they knew he had a giant crush on her or something.

It's okay that naruto hasn't talked about this, but it's kind of weird he didn't even think about it for the readers. Meh.

Well, upon re-read Kushina did say she was very careful with her hair, to keep it out of sight, so if we assume she's competent that way, that explains why her captors didn't notice, but ... heh, maybe she hid them from her captors so well even the konoha nins didn't notice XD

But I really don't know what to say about the inuzuka failure then. I think my new headcanon was Minato's crush was SO STRONG he noticed she was missing first and then raced off like a mini-flash wile others were so busy getting organized so he was the first to get to her. XD

And how would Kyuubi know Mom's name? Why would he have any reason to know her name? more importantly, he recognized her chakra pattern, he knew who was binding him.

... Erk ... "Special" chakra? Which brings me to ask if Kushina was perhaps Kyuubi's previous container, although that doesn't really jive with what we already know about the tailed beasts' history and abilities. It would certainly explain why Minato was so certain Naruto could handle Kyuubi's presence in his mind. Everyone else's thoughts?

This manga is, at it's heart, a coming-of-age story. In The Power Of Myth by Joseph Campbell, he mentions that many journeys in mythology begin with the main male character being told to go search for their father. The mother is the one who raises us, nurtures us, and creates a safe haven from the world for us. As children, our mother is the center of our world, and I don't doubt that when Naruto was a child, he felt her absence strongly. But because the manga does not focus on his childhood but rather his coming-of-age, Naruto is compelled to seek male figures that symbolize the father. The father traditionally represents the one who prepares the son for interacting with the outside world away from the safe haven of home, the ultimate achievement of adulthood. As a result, Naruto feels the absence of this mentor and is compelled to seek them out in a variety of individuals, from Iruka to Jiraiya, on his quest to become the Hokage.

His gender is a major factor in this as well; is a guy he's goign to look for a male figure as he grows up instead of a female figure. Probably would have been vice versa if he actually was Naruko.

Okay, I definitely got misty-eyed at this. Kushina is fun, badass, and made of win.

And, well, going back to the "Since when did he want to meet Mom" idea, I wanna ask, when would he have shown that? Naruto's only ever around guys, so the yearning for a dad is obvious, but... I guess, I don't think Kishi would devote panelage to Naruto missing a mommy at night. >_>;

Anyway, this chapter was made of adorable, and a surprisingly comprehensive flashback (the one she didn't get before pseudo-death?) that Jossed a couple of my theories, but I kinda don't care :P Of course she would have been involved in the sealing - I just hope we get some explanation of her "special" chakra.

And more of her life with Minato would be welcome >u>
