-____- Stupidest reason to dislike Aeris ever...

From one of my reviews...

even though she already has a boyfriend, she tried to go out with Cloud.

... Wasn't her boyfriend gone and presumed dead for FIVE YEARS by then? D:

Zack and Aeris dated for a while when she was 16 and then he went poof -- it wasn't like they'd been married for twenty years. If you go by the original FF7 canon she even said something to the effect of "I liked him but it wasn't OMGlove." She could have been downplaying her pain -- or she could have been honest about her feelings.

But 1) it's not a crime to date someone you like a lot but turn out not to be in forever luv with, and
2) when the guy is dead for that long, even if you really loved him back then and a part of you always will~ ... It's perfectly normal and healthy to try to move on eventually, after your mourning is over, instead of obsessing. Just because she loved Zack doesn't mean she should go through life as a virgin clad in black floor-length dresses and a face-veil until she dies of old age. Argh.

Just be honest and say you don't like her because you ship a competing pairing and are insecure enough to feel threatened if you don't downplay her she manipulated manly man Cloud into wearing a dress complete with sexy lingerie or something. >__>

In other, totally unrelated news koff koff, there's a yuri FF7 ficlet posted on my insanejournal.

So. Um. What you said.

Even the Victorians got over mourning in 18 months (12 in the US). :P

You should mirror your fic to your IJ more often. It's easy if you use a client like Semagic that lets you post to more than one journaling site at once. That's how I do my journal posts (so you see the same thing here and there and on GJ until it finally dies completely). Sometimes I mirror to JournalFen too.

I also love your icon. XD

Heh....*Ships A/S/Z/C for FF7* You know, some people just need to step off their good Ship for a moment and see what else is out there. Could be fun.

[identity profile] kanarenee.livejournal.com 2008-11-19 05:25 pm (UTC)(link)
I agree with you.

Aside from all that, Aerith didn't really know he was dead (according to FF7 canon), but she DID think that he ran off with another woman in that time and that was why he hadn't come back. I was watching some of the FF7 scenes on YouTube and she told Cloud she knew a 1st named Zack, and he had been her first love, but he was a womanizer and she hadn't seen him years, so she "wouldn't be surprised if he found someone else".

I don't blame the girl, even though Zack loved her to bits and pieces. In America at least, 1 year of desertion is enough to have grounds for divorce. Five years is a lot more dedicated than most people here are XDDD

I think Zack and Aerith ARE UBERCUTE! But I like Aerith and Cloud... and... Zack and Cloud... and the OT3. So.... yeah. Maybe I'm just a bit different there?

(Although my FF7 OTP is Reno/Cissnei... but there is nothing in the world anywhere about the pairing so I must love it in my own lonely self T__T)

Fact: Zack is a fictional character.
Fact: Aeris is a fictional character.
Fact: Cloud is a fictional character.
Fact: Fictional characters are not real, cannot be real and as such are whim to whatever the author/artist that is play with them wants.
Fact: Obsessing over the actions of said fictional charcters is foolish, unhealthy and wrong when you try and force said obsessions onto someone who's view may differ from your own.
Fact: Afore mentioned complainer should probably looking into prescription medications or lay off the nonprescription meds before said person open it's piehole and annoys the rest of the world yet again. >_> <_< -_-;;;

Hmmm, personally if I was going to hate any of the girls it would be Tifa but even I like her non-canon game self if it's done well, and she does get better as she develops.
Though, I mean, picking on/ignoring cute kid Cloud when he had a PONY TAIL is just plain evil. >_< *Squishes Cloudy* Just too cuuuute! ^_^ And I still think AC Tifa needs to get a clue, Cloud is either gay or bringing polygamy back as far as I'm concerned. Sorry Tif' but Cloud's too smexy for you unless you bring friends...and handcuffs.

And Aeris is responsible for one of the best gaming moments in history (as opposed to the 'most shocking' which she's known for officially...). Don't lie and say you don't like the image of Cloud whipping off the dress and smashing Don's face in. It's a lie. Lying is wrong. Don't do it.

And the other one that really gets me going is 'oh but Aeris can't protect herself, she asked Cloud to be her bodyguard!' - that was EVIDENTLY an attempt at subtle flirting/plot device since she's been running from Turks since she was, like, six? Yeah, no help needed.
Also if you want to pick on someone for not defending herself and stealing the main character then go bash Rinoa from VIII since she really IS a horrible brat that can't take care of herself, and the Ginny Syndrome of sudden love is so sickening.... X_x Plus she's been infected with the genes of a Mary Sue (the wings- plz kill me now) far scarier than Jenova any day. -_-

...*ships SZAC, sometimes SZATC, and any smaller variation there-of*

Oh, hey, look! 'Ship wars! *waffles between sitting on the sidelines with popcorn and running screaming in the other direction*

Um. In addition to all the excellent points you just made? Cloud also happens to be the current holder of some of Zack's memories. Not that that gives her any additional claim to Cloud, really, but if your argument is that she's cheating on Zack? That right there makes your point invalid. At the time, dating Cloud was about as close to dating Zack as she was gonna get, as Zack himself was dead. Just, you know, wanted to point that out... >.>

While I don't really have much emotional (depth) investment in FF7, I'd think that getting "Big Mannly-Man Cloud" in a dress would be points for Aeris.

Huh. Guess I was wrong.

Some people (like me, eh) honestly think it's very anti-romantic. Maybe healthy, yes, in real life, still kinda kills the dramatic tension in fiction >.< It has nothing to do with hating the character.

[identity profile] uminohikari.livejournal.com 2008-11-19 10:02 pm (UTC)(link)
XD I don't particularly like Aeris, but mostly because I just find her to sometimes be an obnoxious know it all? That is a ridiculous reason..

[identity profile] fateofshadow.livejournal.com 2008-11-19 10:17 pm (UTC)(link)
Ok, I'll concede on the AC note, it could be sisterly/motherly or otherwise...

I suppose my dislike of Tifa comes from the fact that out of all the characters she's the ONLY one who knows exactly what happened in Nibelheim and what has happened (in part) to Cloud but she does nothing.

Although I understand why she didn't come out with it right away she seemed more concerned with her subliminal cat fights with Aeris than actually trying to help him through his fractured memory until he fell into the life stream. I can also grudgingly let go of my dislike for 'will you come and save me' since they were kids (13-14 but still children), even though there was no reason for it as Tifa was already training in martial arts and could kick more butt than Cloud. Ok, maybe I'm not completely over it but I'll try.

The Aeris / Tifa dynamic is good since although they are a healer and a fighter their personalities are almost the opposite of what you'd expect from them both. Because of that I probably prefer a yuri pairing with the two of them than just one of them with Cloud, oooh, yuri fiction.... *naughty thoughts*. ^^

I'd also like to say for the record that whenever I'm reading one of your FFVII stories I cannot help but like all the characters (Hojo not withstanding) ^_^.

But nothing you write will ever make me like canon Ginny or Rinoa! >_<

[identity profile] slamu.livejournal.com 2008-11-19 11:42 pm (UTC)(link)
For the record, I will support you in whatever yuri fics you want to write.
*enable, enable*
What method would you recommend for me to get into the FF7 fandom? Would I have to play the really long game that I don't have or could I just start ficcing and pick up bits and pieces here and there?

This is all I have to contribute, I am sorry.

[identity profile] sailor-comet.livejournal.com 2008-11-20 01:14 am (UTC)(link)
Hahahaha, you wrote the phrase "manly man Cloud".

(Anonymous) 2008-11-20 06:58 am (UTC)(link)
Mind you, I'm not convinced moving on to Cloud was in ANY way healthy.

I mean, by that point, Cloud was messed up enough in the head that he was basically Zack v.2.

Well, I hadn't played the game since I was 7 until I watched the movie and then I read some fics...eventually I got into the game again (though I've still not completed it, I've got about 20 hours). I wouldn't say the game play is nesessary if you know enough about the plot, espeially if you're writing post-meteor.

The game is the bare bones of what happens in fanfiction, in fact some things in the game are just plain silly so you have to suspect a lot more is going on backstage canon or it makes no sense. Some characterisation is left out until the later games/movie as well so people like Reno are sometimes very fantastical for the game canonists...

Read fics, watch the movie, ooooh, the bit where Sephiroth stabs Cloud in the shoulder- yay for suggestive imagery! Plus 'tell me what you value most in this world and I will have the pleasure of taking it from you' am I the only one that jumps up and down screaming 'Cloud's virginity, his virginity dammit!!!' o_O Great scene.... ^___^

I don't know, maybe you should just skip to Crisis Core and Dirge of Cerberus (never played but I really want to)? I'd suggest that after lots of fic reading, you're bound to pick up something if you do.

Tell me what kind of fics you'd like to read (following the game, post-meteor, AU, time travel...) and I'll see what I have in my faves.

I'm taking a logic class this semester; I can't help it! I try and detox the logic out of me in fandom but it keeps rearing it's head and going "OBJECTION!!" (note to self, get phoenix wright game) at the oddest times! It's not my fault! I just want some people to at least attempt to make sense... is that such a bad thing? T^T

Thanks! ^_~

[identity profile] kittychan1986.livejournal.com 2008-11-20 10:35 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh she so does. One gal, three guys...and you know Aeris is a closet pervert anyways, no other reason for all of the effort she went to with the Cloud in a Dress episode. I dislike Tifa on just the 'Ok, this whole thing wouldn't have gone to hell nearly so hard if you'd just opened your mouth and admitted you were an ignorant bitch and were there' thing. I've occasionally seen a fandom version that makes me ok with her, but I dislike her with Cloud

(Three Hot boys, any combo of above...just yum, that's all I have to say. *Gives her FF7 foursome writers pleading looks from a crossed fandoms* )

[identity profile] illegal-goddess.livejournal.com 2008-11-20 11:48 pm (UTC)(link)
Not her first lover, but her first (and last, and only) love, yes. It would have been more romantic if she kept being obsessed, black dresses and all.

In short, it is more romantic if a person only has one true love in their whole life. Maybe two, if it is a threesome. :) Casual sex (before true love) doesn't count, because it doesn't affect the grand romantic situation.

(Um, maybe I should have mentioned that I was talking more about the situation in general, I left FF7 fandom ages ago, so Aeris's love life is a bit hazy in my head, but, say, for the same reason I adore Team Seven, and I like Sakura, but I don't really like narusaku, unless it is some AU where she never felt anything more for Sasuke than normal friendship to begin with)
