WOOHOO FINALLY.

1) naruto should sit more often above pointy phallic things. Yes.
2) the toad pupils are still a bit freaky, but I sense an upcoming flurry of "maybe it's maybelline" icons. >___>
3) blahblah oh look naruto surpassed jiraiya because he can show the features of a toad sage without partially transforming and without the oil! how amazing :O it only took, what, some more superboring training to get there. my god please make something happen.
I understand Kishi's problem here -- having new powers pop up outta nowhere is unbelievable in the bad way. But it doesn't change the fact that training arcs are freaking boring.
But in the end i'm not even amazed because it didn't even look that hard and yet he still managed to surpass! jiraiya! omg! yeah, show don't tell plz, it's getting tiresome having everyone and their grandmother secretly having orgasms over their witnessing Naruto's amazingness. (Also that child of prophecy business makes me kinda twitchy. This prophecy is the only mention EVER that divination is considered even remotely credible in the Naruto universe.)
So in the end I'm both bored because the training took too long for such boringitude and disbelieving because it took him a couple of chapters to surpass freakin' Jiraiya. Blah. Stop having everyone and their dog tell us how cool Naruto has become. What's interesting is the hardships he endures to get there. Urgh.
4) Naruto can get shirtless and scratched up as often as he wants, yum -- I mean, yes, ahaha omg he can use the sage chakra to be harder to hurt. ... to make his body harder? yes shut up I'm twelve okay.
5) ohyay, sage fighting style. Maybe then he'll be able to match sasuke's prettypretty taijutsu and we can have some fun time watching them have prettypretty choreographed mating rituals. I mean fights. Pretty ones. Yes. That's totally what I meant.
6) Yay those ... cloud? ninja things can be real ninjas! like... they throw explosive tags and stuff. aww too bad your buddy iz ded, sorries. ... who killed him again? *needs to re-read last chapter* D:
7) return to Naruto! Naruto has just started training in the Sage arts, oh my! And just unleashed something! That from the dialogue is apparently successful! I'd be more impressed if the surrounding area wasn't naturally weird, so I could actually tell what's supposed to have happened. But hey.
8) and return to konoha's code breakers! ^o^ yay Shiho is still hanging around. (I am persuaded that Shiho is either Ino's cousin or her dorky librarian cover identity that she used to make people believe that she really is all beauty and no brains. It would ruin her image, you see.)
9) ...is that Ino's dad helping with the interrogation of jiraiya's prisoners? neeeeat. And he's doing some mind exploration, shiny. even though it of course fails, mmm plotmystery no jutsu. XD (... he's not as pretty as I remember. SADNESS.)
(proof that Kishi needs to vary his freaking charadesigns already? When I saw him floating between the rows of doors from the back, for a moment I was persuaded the one of Pain's bodies with the long ponytail was having a flashback, IE was still somewhat alive, and that would be the coolest plot twist ever. But no, it's just Ino's dad. Nice to see he still exists I guess.)
10) Annnnd Pain is at the Konoha wall with his bodies and paper-girl, killinating random leafnins. DUN DUN DUN DUNNNNN. omg is that sum akshun.
I srsly hope Sakura gets to fight a little. If Shika orders her back to protect the other women and childruns and she gets to do nothing until Naruto can come charging in or something stupid like that, I'll be pissed.

Do whatever you want with the big one, I'd just like some credit if you use the smallish one but it's not necessary.

Maybe the surrounding area was what happened. On the other hand, if it wasn't, the story wants to surprise us later. Like when he uses it in an actual battle.
Lol about the Shiho/Ino theory. And it might also give away that Ino has an apparent crush on her teammate. ^^;

Wait. That wasn't Pain body that woke up? I thought it was... *goes to read again* Also, you realize that Pain being the first of the Akatsuki to attack Konoha means Naruto gets to use his spiffy new sage powers to avenge Jiraiya right off the bat, right? I'm not sure if I like that or not. I mean, on the one hand, we can move on from Kishimoto's apparent need to parallel absolutely everything that happens to Sasuke and Naruto (the whole "I lost someone and need to avenge them and now I can understand Sasuke's paaaaaaaaain. Please ignore the irony of who I'm gonna fight..." thing was kind of lame, if in a slightly cool-if-you-squint kind of way), but on the other hand, Naruto gets to avenge his precious person in a handful of chapters while Sasuke had to wait nearly an entire manga. Not fair.
Overall, though, I actually enjoyed this chapter better than the last one. I'm excited for the upcoming fight. ^_^

Gonna put money down and say that naruto is figuring out how to properly execute that rasen shuriken dealie he's got. Maybe the sage power lets him use the technique without giving himself cancer or whatever it did to his arm.
Dunno if Pain is attacking Konoha directly at this point. Its hard to tell what his deal is.

As for the NEW TECHNIQUE MASTERED OMG, I believe the ONE LONE bamboo thinger right in front/next to Naruto had been chopped, DUN DUN DUN. In addition, his eyes are looking toward it. Not very dramatic, but hey!
Also, re: Naruto's FA~BULO~US eyemakeup being awesome XD Your icon made me giggle. A lot. I also wonder what it would look like if he somehow got Kyuubi eyes at the same time as he got froggie eyes... |D
...it is now my belief that the more powerful one is as a ninja, the more ~*~magical~*~ their eyes are. I mean, Gaara has his pupilessness and eyerings, the Uchiha (especially Itachi, with his eyelashes of DOOM. He could probably stab people with those suckers) and the Hyuuga are a no-brainer, Orochimaru's eyeshadow, and now Naruto. NARUTO'S FROGGIE EYES VS. SASUKE'S SPESHUL SNOWFLAKE EYES: WHO WILL WIN?

5. Um, mating rituals aside (not a yaoi fan anymore, kind of a one-time fad with me, but I can understand the appeal as I have read and written in that genre in the past) I just want to see Naruto and Sasuke together again. Fighting, talking, whatever. I mean, god, their epic rivalry/brotherhood thing is one of the big reasons I read this manga. I love their dynamic and miss it so much.
