About that Orphan Works law...

... the one that takes away the "the copyright holder is the creator of the picture" and replaces it with "the copyright holder is the one who registers it first" (phear my super-quick and inexact and grossly oversimplified summaries!), I heard about it from several sources and was all ready to freak out and bitch up a storm, but as it turns out!

Snarky, witty, shady bastard who did good things for selfish reasons and bad things to protect those good reasons, and still stuck with the emotional maturity of a teenage brat but he still managed to do great things. I find him fascinating.


-Dragon Ball Z - Vegeta (hakkai_duo)
I love Vegeta because of his insane pride. I think he's easily the most complex of all the DBZ characters. I love how he clings to being a prince and battles with the lifelong notion that he should be the strongest, and yet Goku always beats him so easily, and how he slowly starts caring for some people against his best judgment. He's abrasive, offensive, uncommunicative and dangerous, but he loves his family to the point that he will sacrifice his greatest obsession, and that makes me squee like a squeeing thing. (and that was longer than one sentence, oops. >.>)


-Yuyu Hakusho - Hiei. (hakkai_duo)
He's an aloof, smirky little bastard who secretly goes squish around his sister. ♥ Also I like his white bangs. XD


-Gundam Wing - Heero (hakkai_duo)
HEEEEEEEEEEERO. *___* He's so strangely socialized, and wanting to fit in, and yet needing to make himself into a weapon to fight for ideals he wasn't sure he had, and trying to follow his emotions even when he's got such a hard time expressing them, and also he's secretly got a stealth-sense of humor which is all kinds of awesome.

-Bleach - Orihime (stripedpetunia)
She's not at all my usuak fare and so it was a bit strange to realize it. But yes! I love her weird brand of silliness, and how she doesn't have a mean bone in her body and will forgive almost anyone for almost anything, and how she battles with her friendship with Rukia and her jealousy and everything.

Also she's stacked. u.u

On Thursday, March 13, the House Subcommittee on Courts, the Internet and Intellectual Property will hold a hearing, and ASMP’s General Counsel, Victor Perlman, will be there to testify on behalf of creators. He will be speaking on behalf of photographers and illustrators generally, as well as ASMP and its members in particular.
Our analysis

It has become clear is that some Orphan Works law is likely to be passed sooner or later. Key members of the House and Senate want it; significant user groups such as museums, academic institutions and publishers want it; and the general public wants it. ASMP understands the need for, and welcomes, a solution to the Orphan Works problem. Our objective has never been to defeat Orphan Works legislation as such. Rather, our goal is and has always been to make sure that any Orphan Works bill is fair to visual artists. In addition, it appears that the political environment this year is substantially more favorable to creators than it is likely to be over the next few years. These factors make it important for ASMP to help craft an Orphan Works bill that treats photographers and other visual artists fairly, and to support the passage of a fair and workable bill in this Congress."

That means it isn't officially going through congress (yet), but quite a few people think it will actually get there - and want their say on the matter - so, it is in the beginings of all the crazy gov. processes that happen before it actually gets put on the docket. (At least that is what this all sounds like....)

Hm. Still nothing to freak over. What was scary was the idea that you had to fork over money to register all your pictures or someone would do it for you.
