Another teamwork tiny sidefic!
This one takes place after Sakura's interlude and during Naruto's (still being written) and Sasuke's.
Not sure whether the end misses something or not, but I like it being understated, I think. *ponders* Still would like some advice if you have any! ^^
"I'm home!"
Sakura waits. Silence.
Naruto isn't going to be here to slump on and gripe about her bruises and her scraped knuckles, she knows that -- Inuzuka Tsume requested a full week of his time, for proper training. Sakura didn't miss him the first few days; it's a lot easier to study when he isn't begging for love. As for Sasuke... Sometimes, reading side by side in silence, drinking the tea he makes for her, is enough. Today, she feels a little lonely.
The living room is full of unsorted clutter; the rest of the house is empty, still a little dusty. They're camping; it's not home yet. There's a small box on the coffee table, where she dumped the medical scrolls she is to read for tomorrow. It has no name on it, but it's at her usual place, meticulously parallel to the edge of the table.
She picks it up, blinks at it.
"Open it."
Sasuke is standing in the connecting door to the dojo. She reddens; at first it feels like getting caught snooping, and then it's a flush of pleasure as she realizes the package really is for her, from him.
He half-turns away just as the small bundle of black cloth falls out, across her palm.
He bought her gloves.
They're tough but not stiff, padded in all the right places, obvious quality. Sasuke is waiting, eyes bored, tilt of the head vaguely challenging, like he doesn't care. Like he didn't go out of his way to get them for her.
She doesn't know what to say, but then he doesn't let her say anything. "You'll tell me how they fit," he throws over his shoulder, and he leaves.
They fit perfectly; and the next day, when she flips and skids over jagged rocks as Tsunade throws her around, and punches that tree trunk fifty times in a row, for once Sakura's hands don't smart that badly.

for once Sakura's hands don't smart that badly <- *^______^*

maybe it's just me but I feel 'trunk' could benefit from having 'tree' in front of it. I know I'm silly but for a second I was like, 'she's punching a big suitcase-thing?' >.> the kind of trunk you're mentioning often has 'tree' mentioned somewhere in its vicinity, at least when I hear about them....

And my brain just died out and completely forgot what else I was going to say - but I love how Saskue sees something that needs to be fixed - and fixes it. Etc.
Great job.

^^ all clear!
(I like the bit about it not being home yet, that just added something to it for me in sort of a 'been there, done that' way)
Sasuke seems to have some difficulty in showing he cares. Has anyone else noticed that? *sarcasm*

Also, Asuka? I really really enjoyed the line, "As for Sasuke... Sometimes, reading side by side in silence, drinking the tea he makes for her, is enough." I liked the way it pointed out that she DOES love him, and IS happy with him, and yet... that relationship isn't... complete, on its own. I don't know, it's subtle, but somehow it really worked for me.
I'd kind of like to know what sasuke thinks of this whole thing though, unless the point is that his actions are still kind of mysterious to Sakura. Last we saw, he didn't seem the type that presents would really occur to...

Or something. >___>;;
*^______________^*
Well, Sakura loves him, and she's not bad at reading his actions, but reading his feelings is still difficult when he's in contemplative/introverted mode, and she's too tired to engage him much at the moment. Besides, he's exhausting to deal with on your own, so yeah, definitely missing naruto at the moment. XDD

Thank you ^^ In the first draft I had even more babble about it, but it ended up sounding like "wahh wahh" and ew. XD I ended up cutting off this bit.
She really didn't have the courage to start cleaning now. And then there were all the boxes of clothes and dishes and other odds-and-ends to empty, and the appliances to sort out and possibly throw away, and ... All that "moving in" business. Inertia, once again, said it was easier to keep camping inside the living room for now, than to sit down and discuss whether this house really satisfied everyone. Especially since she knew Naruto would live anywhere as long as they were there, and Sasuke would pretend he didn't care even if he hated the hell out of it, and she wouldn't want to be a bother and nitpick about tiny details if the place really satisfied the two of them.
It wasn't a bad house, even despite the slightly-too-small bedrooms, and the gallery on the wrong side, and the water damage to fix; it just didn't feel like a home at all.
Sasuke? Difficulty with that? No, I don't see it at all. ö.ö

...OK, getting back on track might not be so smooth. Still a great ficlet either way.
You see, it's a rather subtle thing with Sasuke. Hardly noticeable, really.

"It has no name on it, but it's at her usual place, meticulously parallel to the edge of the table."
*snickers* Sasuke's completely obsessive compulsive, isn't he? I can totally picture him coming home with the box and setting it down, then frowning a little and shifting it so it's perfectly parallel... *loves him to bits, seriously*

Oh yeah. XD and before that he probably wondered if he should hand it to her (urk, no) or put it on her pillow (too romantic a location, and then naruto would laugh if he heard) or uhh mabe on the kitchen counter -- but she'd never know it's for her, he would be back at the beginning IE hand it to her, urk no...

So short, so sweet, and the ending is perfect to me.
God I wish I could leave better reviews D:

Sasuke is just... so Sasuke xD. He had his whole Sasuke-complex thing going on with the, "I don't care, I don't need you, this doesn't matter... but, um, I got you gloves. Really high quality, probably expensive gloves that I most likely went out of my way to find. Oh yeah, and you have to tell me how they fit. Not that I care, or anything."
Really, I love your characterization of him (which is dead on) to pieces. ♥

heh, thank you. XD It's so fun to write him. He's so... "This is not what I mean. At all. Nope." *except it is.*
It's very easy to make it funny, too. Oh Sasuke, so easy to poke fun at. u.u

It's a nice piece. I'm not the biggest Sasusaku fan, but I've been converted to the whole Team 7 love. You can see how Naruto fills the space between them with his laughter and loudness. Yet, they can function as a couple, just not a long-lasting one. Naruto would have to come back and smile and laugh and grope around for it to work out.
Sasuke has a quiet way of showing love, so it doesn't look like 'love' at all...at least to him (It's so love). Sakura has been losing that super fake romantic look at love since teamwork started. She can finally see that small gestures are what love really is. If that makes any sense. ^-^
>> << ...I miss Naruto...

Love how you brought her normal gloves into the picture, making them even more awesome!

oops, i forgotI think he forgot. yeah. That's it. u.u It was a while ago, and all that... >_>;;;;;;;no subject
(Still feel a bit for Naruto tho - mind you, I know what it's like having someone right THERE all the time, and yeah, it'd take a few days for the 'oh phew!' to wear off ;-)
You've got such a good sense of balance with your fics. They never seem overly dragged out or resolved too quickly, which is a serious talent.
*holds out begging bowl like Oliver Twist* Please may I have more?

Aw, she can't tolerate Sasuke all the time either. XD; And every single fight they have I bet the boys don't want her in, and not because they might hurt her, but because it's their private thing.
#.__.# i do? yay thanks. *doesn't notice but* XDD;;; ♥
>:3 hohoho.
