Apparently, they're not labeled in the wrong order, the show just jumps around in time.

I dun like it, and I don't think it really works. I've seen jumping-around-in-time done to good effect (Futakoi Alternative did it well), but this felt confusing and pointless to me.

That said, I love Haruhi and its supertastic crack.

What the hell. It's just as if they were showing them in the wrong order! When you're trying to use the back and forth chronology thing, the show has to be structured like this from the start! And it's used to produce an effect. In this series it makes no sense at all, it's just as if they were shown in the wrong order and that's it. Except for the first episode, but all the rest-- what the fucking fuck.

That was basically my reaction. There was NOTHING to indicate that it was a deliberate effect (so I relabeled everything and merrily burned it all to disc in what turns out to be the wrong order, hah), and even after someone told me about it, I still couldn't see the point to it.

Okay, so it turns out to be a production decision, not a fansubber's error. It STILL doesn't make sense.

Aha, I'd draw you Teamwork fanart, and maybe even Saki-chan fan art, but I have no scanner or any pretty artsy programs. All I have is Paint and my mad mouse skillz. Which, in the end, couldn't be classified as either mad nor skillz.

Daaaw, no Teamwork? It's all Naruto and Sakura's fault. Why can't they be all bat-like and sticky gooey in your head, like Sasuke was? But then, that could be a bad thing, huh. Oh well. It'll come to you sooner or later, I guess. Take your time! =D

I suspect that a large part of the whole point of MSH is for the production company to see just how cracktastic they can make it without descending into the realm of Lain and Evangelion.

They're doing a very good job, although, since I decided early on that I was going to watch the series in 'Haruhi order' I'll admit that I'm missing most of that aspect.

Since I've avoided tying my brain in a chronological knot, I really don't have anything bad to say about the show - Haruhi's special flavor of insane is hilarious and, as you said, the animation and character designs are gorgeous.

See, I've written a long story (never to see the light of day, nor darken a publisher's doorstep!) that jumps around in time. A couple of my favourite books are like that, as well ("Slaughterhouse-Five" and "Naked Lunch"). But I don't begrudge people their opinions, because I know "Haruhi" can be a bit difficult at times, but I love it anyhow. Maybe because I just love Haruhi.
