tinyyyyy tiny bit of fic. Part of the still-incomplete Oft Awry, sequel to Best Laid Plans. Scenelet with Sakura and Lee and boy do I suck at Lee and LeeSaku. Plz to tell me if i'm doing them OOC, it seems weird to me. i've never written them as an item before. ~___~

"... I... I can...?" Sakura stammered, staring at her husband with wide eyes.

"Of course you can," Lee repeated, nodding firmly.

She could see the fire of his determination burning in his eyes. Oh, god, help, she hadn't actually been seriously thinking he would okay her half-baked scheme. "What -- really?"

"My love, light of my life, never would I dream of mistrusting your love for me. Never would I dream of preventing you from virtuously assisting your comrades in their noble endeavor, for indeed the bond between teammates is the greatest of them all!"

"But. Won't you -- I mean -- be... jealous?"

"... second only to the bond of holy matrimony," Lee added with a sheepish grin.

Sakura giggled briefly, and then hugged her husband hard. "Don't worry. Never worry. I love them both very much, but I am not what either of them needs... and they aren't what I need either. And I love you."

He nodded gravely, returning the hug. "I understand, Sakura-san. They are your important people. Why, if Gai-sensei needed --"

Sakura slapped her hands on her husband's mouth. "Lee-san. Please think very carefully about this sentence."

Lee turned kind of greenish. "...Of course, Gai-sensei is an amazing person who wouldn't have any problem finding a loving wife if it was his wish to build a family."

Sakura nodded, smiling awkwardly. Yeurgh, bad mental picture. Very bad. "Of course. But he doesn't, because he already has the most perfect son he could wish for in you. Now you were saying something about eating out?" And then she dragged him toward the door despite his embarrassed and pleased stammering, hoping to leave the traumatizing image behind.

Also, in an entirely hypothetical case, if I were writing a furries AU with the Naruto characters (and provided that they are ALL mammals, shush, I know how to deal with Orochimaru ~~and Kisame~~ rly), and Naruto was a fox (duh), Sasuke and Neji cats, Kakashi a wolf, Lee a squirrel and Tenten a panda,

1) what the HELL would Gai be? (not a squirrel, but something that would vaguely resemble it? but not something that fears wolves all too much either?)
2) Sakura -- rabbit ? it would be cute, but does it fit her? I dunno. Too prey-ish for post-timeskip Sakura, maybe.
3) Chouji? Tsunade?

Jiraiya would totally be a fox/wolf mix. Yeah. Arctic. *loves on*

Most common species would be the foxes, followed by the cats and rabbits. (cats are usually common cats, though; Neji is more like a Persian/snow leopard and Sasuke would be a siamese/panther. Since they're human-sized and don't shapeshift, it doesn't matter much which, apart from the fur pattern) Cross-species children don't happen very often, though it's a lot easier to cross, say, a coyote and a wolf than it is a dog and a cat. Predator/predator or prey/prey works better than predator/prey. Foxes have a somewhat higher percent of success in cross-species behbies, whatever the species. The baby is usually (unless in special cases muahaha) more or less the mother's species but can take the coloring from the father; sometimes they also have a few mental and behavioral traits from the father.

... hrrrm. still setting things up, so if you see a hole in reasoning or something you're not sure you get, please to be pointing it out so I can fix/clarify. *^^*

edit: Tsunade = war horse; Sakura: Arabian (tiny and elegant and temperamental, and sometimes surprisingly sturdy for something so delicate-looking)

...someone suggested Gai as an otter, because then he could spazz with squirrel!Lee. XD opinions?

Naw, Lee is very IC in that, and I remain secretly as much a SakuLee adorer as for LeeGaara, and how I can hold both of those relationships in my head at the same time is utterly beyond me.

I'm sorry I know it isn't a real animal but I just had this image of Gai as a jackalope. As a more serious suggestion how about a platapus. Since Gai is supposedly such a strange shocking looking person. Dunno at a lose beyond the jackalope image that won't leave my mind -.-

As for sakura as a rabbit. Rabbits can rather be vicious. Thos back legs hurt if they can get a real good kick in. >.> Yeah I had a friend in elementary school with a mean rabbit and I had no clue how to pick up a rabbit. You can just imagine the rest.

For Choiji have you thought about a bear? Bears are constantly foarging to put on weight for the winter and they are omnivores. Plus in popular images they can be dangerous or cuddly.

Tsunade... Sloth? *ducks and hides* Slothes can actually move really fast if attacked and with those huge claws pack a big whoolup

Ohh! How about a hare for Sakura? ~~They always kicked ass in Redwall.~~

Gai: Dog? A big dog. A big hyper, happy go lucky dog, competive, the sort that always strains on the leash to be about two steps ahead, loyal to the end. Intelligent but slightly slow (would be more likely to take a wolf as another dog), ~~And is secreetly a woobie.~~

Tsunade: Horse? Glamourous, got one hell of a kick and massive inbuilt strength, certain breeds tend to be tempremental. Bit of a prey like creature, so can explain blood phobia etc. But.... Warhorse. GOt the training and the guts to over come and kick the hell out of any fox/wolves that would like to bother her.

Hmm, Gai would be a bear. I can imagine him giving "bear hugs" to all. Also he is strong and family-oriented as bears often are. They are also quick and clever although they sometimes don't look like it. So: Gai = bear.

And Tsunade could be one too. Probably a grizzly bear. They are the strongest and most dangerous ones, from what I gathered.

And how about dogs? Kakashi is often featured as having a wolf-type -personality, but his summons are the dogs. Imagine him being a lazy Afghan hound, for instance. If the shoe fits...

I'm probably missing/forgetting something here (I don't remember when I last looked at Oft Awry and I'm busy :p), but why are Lee and Sakura calling each other -san? Okay, I could see Lee still doing it as a reflex, but why would Sakura do it, too? Now I kinda wanna go back and read the other stuff to see if you already explained it, but I don't have time right now. :/

I like Tsunade as a horse. Y'know, sometimes they have that little diamond on their foreheads.... And Chouji is totally a bear. I think you're on your own with Gai. XD

Choji could be a brown bear, they eat every thing. A Syrian Brown Bear would be good.

I can see Tsunade as a lion, or a Cougar.

Gai could be a skunk, or a kangaroo! Or a platapus. A Japanese Wolf would be cool.

Sakura could be a Flat-headed Cat, heh. Or a red-panda. She's pretty hard.

Just some ideas for you ^_^

How about Sakura as some kind of bird? Maybe an owl? Or, wait, owl equals wise, so that would be good for Tsunade, maybe? But Sakura could be...a sparrowhawk, maybe? Not vicious, but can be dangerous when provoked.

You could make Sakura into an Otter or something. She seems kind of aquatic with her eye colour and all, and those things are quick and intelligent. Or maybe a bobcat or something.

And your Lee characterization was fine, from what I saw. Although when he makes speeches starting with "my love, light of my life" I would expect him to be posing dramatically in some way. ^_^

...Randomly! Sakura as a mare would also be interesting. Draw ties between her and Tsunade if Tsunade also were. It could explan a need/want to keep her people safe and together.

Chouji, I agree with prior suggestions, as a bear. Maybe even a panda.

Gai? Bush-baby. ;D Kidding. I say maned wolf. Mostly because it's really a fox, but. Uh. Is lanky and amuses me.

I don't think a rabbit is too weak. They're bigger and stronger than gerbils, and as someone who used to have pet gerbils, I can tell you that gerbils have TEETH.

I go with the consensus that the Akimichi clan should be bears.

I like the idea of Tsunade as a cougar. I also have a voice in my head (a voice which I will smack momentarily) telling me she should be a cow. Udders, you know.

what about an anteater? or an opposum or sloth? Those might be interesting to see...

OH~! I had an idea a lot like that a while back, but the plotbunny for it died. XD;; I like your idea better than mine, though--I was using lizards, insects, fish, and cetaceans as well as mammals, and it was hard to figure out all the biological stuff involved with it. (I got it eventually, but by that time I think I'd written too many detailed notes and didn't have a story anymore, just a few pretty scenes. *sad sigh* I liked that bunny, too. ;-; Yours is so much shinier!)

Also, I love how you write Lee, he makes such a sweet hubby. ♥~

Too bad you specified mammals, because Gai would so be a peacock. Hmm, I think you need an animal who preens a lot. And who makes a lotta noise. Yeah, some monkeys would do (howler monkey, snerk) but it still gives the wrong mental image. When a story describes a character as similar to a monkey, we immediately get an image that is almost the opposite of what Gai is. Hmm, maybe one of those excitable lizards who unfurl their capes and prance up and down to impress- wait, no, not a mammal. Too bad, 'cause they're green :D

I kinda think that Lee and Gai could be Kangaroo's.. [[spell check on that]] i like the idea of a Chouji-bear and Tsunade could be a primate of some-sort? Because they have good knowledge and stuff and because they have sorta the closest things to human boobs [[which is the first thing that comes to mind about Tsunade]] Butwhat about Shino? Would he be a sadistic Anteater? Or Asuma. Kinda scruffy.. Beaver? Could chew on sticks instead of cig's.

Mongoose! Predator-type but can supplement diet with nuts and berries so wouldn't be too threatening. Amusingly, also attacks cobras. Plus, mongoose sounds so silly that it'd be perfect for Gai.
