rargh.
Use an icon that I made from a screencap as a base? Fine, though i'd rather you asked me first. Add words on a wordless icon I drew? Same, though i'll be less miffed if you don't make the end result butt-ugly. (also, some icons are NOT for share, please respect that)
But. Icon or not.
EDIT MY PICTURES AND DIE.
I drew them. I DREW THEM. They're MINE. You're using them because I'm allowing you. They're still MINE. You want an icon that shows something I didn't draw? Then DRAW YOUR OWN. Clear? Thank you.
EDIT: Oh yeah, changing the icon, deleting my comment, and then not replying to me and pretending that since no one can tell now, nothing ever happened? That's classy. Very classy.
Sure, you deleted that butchered icon. But I think I'm gonna be petty and remember you for that anyway, dearest.

(Anonymous) 2006-03-29 05:17 pm (UTC)(link)when you commented about it and asked it to be taken down, i did. and i really did feel awful about it. i never thought about it that way- as YOUR art that you should have control over. in the world of fanfiction and fanart, those lines are sometimes hard to define.
and i'm sorry for the delay of this- but school started back monday and i've been a little preoccupied.
really- i don't want to have some sort of feud about this - i really am sorry.

As for the "lines are hard to define". If, for you, editing existing fanart is on par with writing fanfic, I wonder what you'd think of someone who would take your complete fic, do a search and replace for the names of the characters, and then post it with a "teehee! I liked that fic so much, but I like X better than Y, so I made my version with (other writer)'s. (oh and I can't
drawwrite, so it's going to look choppy, ugly and blindingly obvious, also X is going to end up OOC as hell, but it will still be better than (other writer)'s original idea."Now can you see see what's wrong with that? Because when people edit my pics in this way, that's exactly what I feel.
When people write or draw, they use the characters, their personalities/appearances, and the settings -- and then they put them in new situations. Doing something like that? Is plagiarism.
I'm not going to have a feud with you over an icon. I'm not actually all that angry. (and even if I was, I can defend myself and certainly wouldn't involve other people) But it's still mine, and I'm still annoyed.
