No, i'm not going, sadly.

theninjakitty wanted to get a table to sell her prettypretty pictures, but she missed registration by about a week. Is anyone willing to let her squeeze herself in a corner? Plz to go to her LJ to talk about eventual details if you can help her.
In other news, nothing makes me want to write ItaSasu more than people whining about "ZOMG DONT WRITE INCEST ITS SO SICK"

The thing with Itachi is that he seems so emotionally remote; yet, he smirks sometimes, so obviously he can still find enough feelings in him to be amused and care enough to mock. People can't balance that, the fact that the emotions he feels are probably there, but very weak (or at least some of them); badfic writers make him ... I dunno, always angry/mocking/evil(...) just because, or an oversexed maniac, and then people who have watched the show a little better go "zomg this is so so so very wrong" and write him the reverse, someone who never ever feels ANYTHING.
(not sure it entirely makes sense, I'm not finding the words I want, but hopefully you get the gist of it)
It's the same for Itachi as a sex-machine. Fantwits go "he's very sexy, so he must love sex"
and then write him romancing their Sues and having hawt sex against a wall twice in ten minutes.Other fans go: "noooo! He's not like that, he doesn't care about anything!"Fact is, we haven't seen him enough to judge if he's the kind to never ever touch someone else, or the kind who's willing to spend ten minutes with a prostitute when he isn't on mission or something like that. What he isn't, though, is someone who will let his libido distract him. His body is a weapon that he uses to get to his goals. Maybe he has sex when he's got the occasion and the time, but he would certainly never ever bother actively lusting after a random girl. (I can't even see him caring enough to go and rape a girl he finds attractive; either she falls into his lap or he shoves her out of his mind.) As for romance, HAHAHAHAHAHA. no. XD
But with ItaSasu, the connection is already here! And while Itachi cares and thinks about Sasuke a lot less than Sasuke thinks about Itachi, he still would be quite miffed if the center of Sasuke's world became something else.
... that reminds me I wrote a gen fic like that once. Sasuke was stopped from leaving Konoha, and then gradually started living like a normal kid again, and it was cute and bittersweet and hopeful -- and then Itachi came back and killed the rest of Team Seven. "Your hate is still not strong enough, little brother. We're going to fix that." ♥
... okay, enough babbling. I'm not even ranting straight. My mind's going in a bazilion different directions at once. XD

(Anonymous) 2006-03-04 04:52 pm (UTC)(link)Setting aside the rather massive problem of Orochimaru, one might see that as Sasuke taking a rather important step towards finally cutting the control Itachi still has over his life. And methinks Itachi wouldn't be very pleased about that.
Itachi may not care about Sasuke in a normal sense, but he'd probably be PISSED if he was taken off Sasuke's priorities list.
...That would actually make an interesting story - a grown-up Sasuke, presumably having parted ways with Orochimaru but not having returned to Konoha, and having come to realize that if he really wants revenge, he needs to stop caring about Itachi. Which might lead to a scene where Akatsuki's after Naruto, and Sasuke has the choice of helping his former teammate or facing down Itachi. A long, tense pause follows, and then Sasuke says flatly, "I have no business with you," and heads after Naruto. 'Course, he'd probably need to find a place to hide when he falls apart after the chaos is over, but it would still be a hell of a scene, if one could pull it off.
...No, I'm not getting a ficlet idea at all. Not a bit. Whatever gave you that idea...? (Of course, if someone else were to write this, I'd definitely cheer them on!)

Though. The fact that Sasuke decides to leave his village and cut all previous ties at all isn't a very positive point toward him entirely getting free of his brother. Deciding to spare Naruto was a very important step, but he still has a long road to go; he's still defining himself around his brother, be it for or against him.
In order to be free from Itachi, he would have to finish mourning for the brother he thought he had; then he won't feel that distracting amount of betrayal and bitterness. He needs to realize that he should go against Itachi, not because he hates/misses him and everything, but because Itachi was, and still is, a menace to him and everything he holds dear -- his village and friends, but even also other people.
(I think that Sasuke could care about random strangers if he let himself, if he wasn't so wrapped up in his personal tragedy. I can't see him, for example, let a civilian die just because he was too lazy to reach out and pull him back from the falling rocks or whatever. (of course orochimaru might have taught him that, but that's not something that's inherent to him; it's something he would have twisted his real self into) Which means I could see him caring about not letting public enemies kill people undisturbed, even if he had no personal connection to them.)
Really, if Sasuke wants to free himself from Itachi, killing him won't be enough. He has to change the very reason WHY he's killing him, otherwise he'll always have his shadow over him. So your little story idea definitely has some potential. Also, mmm Sasuke actually getting IC character growth. X3

He HAD to go, in order to maintain the balance of power within Team Seven. Really, Naruto being taken under Jiraiya's wing was the final nail in the coffin. Cool as Kakashi is, he's no sennin. Once Naruto got his uber-cool sensei, it was basically a given that Sasuke would end up going toOrochimaru and Sakura would somehow apprentice under Tsunade. :-P
Not that training under Jiraiya did much for Naruto... *trails off muttering, then promptly throttles the impending rant, because A: she has strong opinions on the matter and it's off-topic, and B: it has a lot to do with recent manga chapters, and she doesn't know who has read them nor how to put up a spoiler shield, if indeed an Anonymous can even do that...*
*coughs* Getting back on topic... I really do agree that Sasuke needs to change the way he THINKS about Itachi in order to really free himself. And, oddly, it would be by freeing himself from Itachi that Sasuke would REALLY get the revenge he wants. Hence why, in my opinion, the real climax of the whole revenge arc would not be Sasuke defeating Itachi, but being faced with the chance to defeat Itachi (or at least give it a damn good shot) and rejecting it in favor of someone more important to him.
Makes me wonder how ITACHI would react to that scene.
...I'm glad you think it's IC. The only drawback being that, in order for the scene to work, it would have to be at the end of an epic. No ficlet would be able to give enough background. Though dammit, now I'm tempted to try...

To me, it's clear that Itachi is not emotionless, he's just really good at keeping them under wraps. He's taken the shinobi saying to heart: "A shinobi must keep his emotions on the inside, no matter what the situation. You must make the mission top priority, and you must possess a heart that never shows tears."
The scene where the Konoha police officers all but accused him of killing Shisui, and he beat the crap out of them, demonstrates pretty well that he can at least feel anger. He caught himself and apologized, but not before he showed how he really felt.
I don't think he's asexual. Of course, I'm biased because I love to imagine him boning the living daylights out of his squirming otouto, but my guess is that he wraps up his lust with all his other emotions for the sake of missions, and evacuates the urge with masturbation. I do think he would have sex if he had the occasion and time. I can also see him raping a random attractive person, if he wasn't on a mission. But he wouldn't go very far out of his way. And I agree with you 100% that he would never do romance.
And if having sex with Sasuke would help him achieve his goal of fighting a worthy opponent, so much the better.
That sounds like a good fic. Tragic, but the good kind.

On the other hand -- yes, when he was younger, i want to believe that it wasn't all pretend. And he did betray himself by getting angry, which proves that he wasn't entirely cold and empty of feelings. mmmmh. Though by now, five years later, he does seem to have gotten good at stopping feeling on command. u_u;;;
