=____= (GW fandom rant)

Sometimes I miss the GWA board. It was full of smart and interesting people with a variety of pairings and ideas, and stupid flame wars weren't tolerated. I wish something like that would exist for the Naruto fandom.

Sometimes I miss the GWA board. And then I go back, and I realize that lots of the oldbies have left (some have jumped ship with me XD), or they're not as deep in the "community" as I remember them being, and all that's left is the annoying brainless fantwits, spamming the board with all-important questions that have less to do with military grades in OZ, or cultural and sociological studies of the Colonies, or where exactly in Europe Sank could logically be located, than they have to do with "if Duo was a hairdresser, how would you rate his hairdressing abilities on a scale of one to ten?" "if Trowa was a diver." "if Wufei was a ninja." What. The. Fuck.

Why. WHY. is it that every time I come back half the messages on the first page are by that person, and they're almost ALL as pointless as the previous ones. WHY CAN'T SHE KEEP HER STUPID BRAIN GLITCHES IN ONE TOPIC. No actually no, I was never unable to sleep because I was tortured by the immortal question: Duo, little scythes or little skulls on his boxers? And it says something that most of her topics are even more inane, pointless and WTF-inducing than the boxers question. which is my own example. Hers hurt my brain too much for me to remember. The hairdresser and ninja stuff, though? Totally hers.

I'm never wandering back to the General forum ever again. I'll post my fics and leave, nostalgia be damned.

wandering back onto old forums is always depressing~ *remembers Pokemon AAML days and weeps*

I try very hard to forget that part of the fandom exists at all.

It was full of smart and interesting people with a variety of pairings and ideas, and stupid flame wars weren't tolerated. I wish something like that would exist for the Naruto fandom.

I also really, really wish there was a place matching that description in Naruto fandom. Especially the "variety of pairings and ideas" part.

I never went to the GWA Board because it has always scared me. I think I've only posted one fic there in the four years I've been writing GW. I was on MLs for a while (2 yrs?) but I've quit all of those now, too. I sort of found my little niche, have a few good friends, and I've given up on everything else. Sometimes I wish I could get my fics out to a wider audience, but I just can't stomach the imbeciles. ^^;

[identity profile] dirtyoldlady.livejournal.com 2006-01-15 10:10 pm (UTC)(link)
My inner Duo goes commando and is proud of it. Silk boxers are a waste of money he could use on important stuff. Like food and ammo. ;)

I have occasional bouts of nostalgia for the fandom, too, but you can never really go home again.

And, I would really love to see a GWA type of site for Naruto fandom. *_*

... hey, I did that sociological study of the Colonies thing! I came up with the idea of why there's old people and teenagers in GW, but very few middle-aged adults.

And, d00d. Everyone knows Duo sleeps naked.

This is Sera btw. I'm stealing teh internet from Aoi-chan's house.

Well, that's the problem of getting older together with a group of people and wandering back into the land of...er... fantwits and newbies. The good side is - I guess? - that you can always look back on the amazing discussions of the 'Golden Times' and... move on?

=_= Ah... nostalgia.

[identity profile] arcanetheorem.livejournal.com 2006-01-15 11:23 pm (UTC)(link)
Hm. I used to visit forums a long, long time ago (back when I was in my egotistical, preteen period) and I've learned one important thing from that experience: Never, ever go back again. LJ Communities have more well-rounded individuals and they generally lack the 'teen scene' -- as I like to call it.

I visited the GWA forums back then, as well, and I never really got into it like most people did. Back then, there were still flame wars on the forums and I didn't think it was worth it, getting involved in something that blase.

So, yes, I agree with you; post your fics, and run hell-for-leather. :)

We can always hope that the future will produce fewer idiots in the world, can't we? ;)

Yeah, I remember a Yuugiou forum that I used to adore and spend way too much time at... then the cool people started to drift and it got taken over by the fantwits. Sucks. So. Much. Wahhh...

[identity profile] nova-night.livejournal.com 2006-01-16 01:06 am (UTC)(link)
The sad thing is that this is happening to a lot of forums. Most of them have been taken over by "fantwits" and its been harder and harder to find a good place to have deep converation about things like that.

A long time ago I would go and talk to people about some really cool things. Notting like where Sank would really be (and where would that be anyway?), but some neat things like MS being named after constellations. And if someone don't like the show we talk to about that we thougth was important about the show without starting a frame war and there could get really deep at times.

Now when happen to find the post again all I see if "Duo is Hot <3<3<3" or "Deathscythe Rocks". And I miss the talks about the characters, the meaning of Gundam Wing and all the strange facts.

*Sigh* I use do miss the old days. The new fourms are so depressing.

[identity profile] rurounitriv.livejournal.com 2006-01-16 03:14 am (UTC)(link)
I know exactly who you're talking about. If they start the topic, I don't even bother to read the thread. And this is from someone who used to read every thread on the forums.

UGH fantwits

I don't even try to eke out a larger existence than my little niche in GW fandom any more. I haven't got the patience for that bullshit. :D

that's why it's more fun to stick with Naruto right now. there's hilarious pictures like this: http://www.yale.edu/anime/imgarchive/Naruto/sasuke_obsessed.jpg

*Lurker emerges*

That person had a whiny post about 6 months back about OHSOBSOB,I DON'T MEAN TO BE OFFENSIVE, BUT WHY DOES NO ONE COMMENT WHEN I POST? WHAHWHAHWHAH.

Several commented to her about why they're not posting. My beef had been that I couldn't figure out what the hell the post was about from the obscure headers, and that I'm also not really into these sort of polls she runs.

Yeah. She didn't get back to us, either. >_<

I've completely gotten out of the habit of going to GWA, especially since most of my fave authors are here, anyway! :D

PS Yay, for more cloneness!!

I missed the world building.

How the colonies were structured and could they actually be independent completely from earth, both politically and economically? The pysch profiles on all the boys and yeah they really aren't teenagers. How Relena become the huge political force she was and why wasn't there any real form of media or democraticly pissed off masses?

*goes off to design bloodline limit orgin myths*

[identity profile] luriko-ysabeth.livejournal.com 2006-01-20 11:55 pm (UTC)(link)
I miss that, too. RL bitchslapped me like a red-headed stepchild in 2004 and I had no time for most internettage, and whenever I poked my head back in since then there was... well... not much in the way of interesting discussionification. Not even stemming off of fic commentary (fondly remembers linguistics and social skills commentary discussions that evolved off of one person responding to an interesting fic).

And I never was much good at starting discussions, just at hopping in once they got going.
