1) actually circumcision isn't so much about hygiene so much as a moral smackdown. "there, maybe now you won't have as many reasons to handle your penis, you little pervert." My brothers and all my cousins are ALL uncut and i've never heard of any of them having any hygiene problem whatsoever. It's not that hard to teach them to pull it back to wash underneath, you know. Which means if an author gives people from another world a tradition of circumcision, they have to give them the puritanism (or whatever background the Jews have for it) it came from. That won't work with all kinds of worlds.

2) seeing as his mum hated his guts, more than probably. But I got the feeling he blasted his way out of her, and anyway she was dead when he was born, so unless they did the operation in her belly... XD

XD most of the time, no, it's not even mentioned, but if you've ever looked at porny fangirl art, it's pretty obviously what the people who draw it are used to seeing -- which means cut. Apparently the author of the rant found graphic fics in which it was explicitely mentioned too.

... none of the graphic fics i read mention the foreskin, though. woe. XD

That may be part of the whole "everyone in the english-language fandoms are cut" thing- most american girls have never seen someone or talked to someone who isn't cut, and we tend to take it for granted unless we actually think about it.

... it's dumb, but one forgets.
