WHAT THE FUCK.

[livejournal.com profile] joisbishmyoga just had her story removed from ffnet. Her huge HP/YYH crossover, with THOUSANDS of reviews, was removed -- and for what, it doesn't really say, but NONE of these claims work. if it's for INTERACTIVE CONTENT, because, I don't know -- because OMG she replied to a few reviews from time to time maybe? I'm sure of one thing, she never, ever fucking asked anyone to help with her plot, because she's been keeping it in her head right from the start and it's a fucking insult to say she's ever asked anyone to tell her what to do next. And she respects her readers and her own abilities as a writer too much to use chat/script format, and it's certainly neither a MST or a Real Person fic. It's an anime/Harry Potter crossover with ACTUAL PLOT, where the hell would there be real persons?! RARGHH.

Please, if you can, spare a minute to email ffnet about it? Maybe if we rant and moan enough they'll reupload it -- they did that with another HP fic earlier.

man, what the fuck's up with these morons? every big fic out here ends up being removed for no reason eventually. They don't even bother to check, do they. Fuckers.

JoIsBishMyoga,

Title: "The Best Defense"
Summary: "The Yu Yu Hakusho team goes undercover at Hogwarts to protect the student body from the fallout of the war with Voldemort. The question is- how undercover can a group like them stay in a school full of wizards? NOW COMPLETE."
Rating: "Fiction Rated: T"

Main reason for removal: "Not allowed: interactive, chat/script, real person, mst, and etc."

The above story has been removed because it violated the guideline detailed on the upload page.

I hate FF.net's stupid new rules. **snarly** I used tor ead there all the time, but now there are more crapfics than good ones, because all the DECENT writing is getting booted, and I'm sick of wading throught he crap trying to find the good.

I'll mail them.

Er....what's the addy for them?

[identity profile] joisbishmyoga.livejournal.com 2005-06-16 10:03 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm using abuse@fanfiction.net

I'm so sorry! I haven't read your fic because I don't know anything about Yuu Yuu Hakusho beyond the name and that Ogata Megumi is one of the voice actresses (sweatdrop), but you have my serious sympathy. A couple months ago FF.net pulled down several of my fics for the same "script or etc." reason, and I'm living in dread of whenever someone decides to report Side Effects even though I ripped the karaoke scene out of it with a dull fishknife. @_@

Good luck with getting your fics reinstated. I don't know if they'll correct their problem -- as they explained to me in

I didn't have the nerve to try, because the stories of mine that got taken down were older than the ban on screenplay format and I didn't want to draw any more attention to Side Effects, but hopefully an outraged populace will help your cause if they still care at all? I hope they care anyway, otherwise what are they doing running the site...

Good luck, seriously...

[identity profile] joisbishmyoga.livejournal.com 2005-06-17 02:12 am (UTC)(link)
I didn't mention the First Amendment. I went with prissy comments about lies, presumptions, offense, and suggested a policy change that requires actual evidence on the part of the accuser to be compared with the accused's work.

Then I began work to inspire an email-writing campaign, which will either get site policy changed or bother the admins as much as this policy has hurt me.

Then Dad offered money for a copy of the reviews, and more money to reinstate my fic from the server backup. I'm hoping the information actually gets to the site owners through the power of teh internets.

Oh, and it's okay that you haven't read my fic. ^^ I've read yours. *waves little KakaIru flag* Will wait patiently for updates.

[identity profile] kiyakotari.livejournal.com 2005-06-17 11:37 am (UTC)(link)
Okay, I mailed them. See:

Hello Dear Sir or Ma'am:

I would just like to state a complaint. I have been religiously following a story here on FF.net for some time, only to find that it suddenly disappeared! I asked the author why, and they told me their fic had been removed because, and I quote: "Not allowed: interactive, chat/script, real person, mst, and etc."

What does that even mean? The fic was not interactive in anyway - the author already has the storyline decided, and is simply writing it. I asked. She was not writing an MST, it was no a chat/script format AT ALL...and 'etc' isn't very informative.

Now, I understand that there are many fics on FF.net that are banned. And deserve it. But her story was well-written, enjoyable, not at all self-insert ridden...

I feel that she at least deserves to know why her fic was removed. In fact, I get the feeling that it wasn't even read or checked to see if it deserved the complaints that it got - I suspect it was simply taken off without ever being looked at.

I'm sure that, if the fic is actually looked at, the removal will be reconsidered, and request that this be done. The story, by the way, is "The Best Defense" by the author JoIsBishMyoga.

Thank you for your time,

Kiyakotari

...All right, so I...expanded the truth a bit. I've never read the fic. But FF.net pisses me off enought hat I don't really care.

[identity profile] hitori-toshiro.livejournal.com 2005-06-16 10:30 pm (UTC)(link)
Wow. J'essaierai d'envoyer un mail. Dès la fin de mon bac. Quand j'arriverai à penser normalement.

... C'est con, en lisant le résumé, j'ai envie de lire la fic x_x. A mort ff.net.

[identity profile] malika.livejournal.com 2005-06-16 11:14 pm (UTC)(link)
man, i'd love to email them, but i doubt ffnet will do anything about it. this new rules fucking blow. :\ i miss the NC17-allowing norules ff.net. ;_;

[identity profile] artimusdin.livejournal.com 2005-06-17 03:13 am (UTC)(link)
Actually, they've restored at least one fic before after it had been removed so it is possible for it to happen if enough people bitch about it.

[identity profile] dragynville.livejournal.com 2005-06-17 12:10 am (UTC)(link)
WTF is and etc. supposed to mean? Anything they get a wild hair up their @sses over? -_-

[identity profile] stripedpetunia.livejournal.com 2005-06-17 12:39 am (UTC)(link)
Pretty much, based on their behaviour the past few years.

[identity profile] flyby.livejournal.com 2005-06-17 01:13 am (UTC)(link)
I think they remove stuff if they get one complaint about it. Then they make up a lame reason afterwards so they can pretend they aren't just dumbass reactionaries who are scared of anything remotely resembling bad press. They don't seem to get that there are idiots out there who think that the stupidest little things are perfect grounds to complain because OMG someone disagreed with their interpretation!

::kicks ffn:: I keep meaning to make an account purely for linking all the good fics that are left there, actually. I'm going to stick up one of my fics as a taster, link to my website, and link to zillions of good fics because it's way more trouble than it's worth to actually go looking over there.

[identity profile] hentai-satsuki.livejournal.com 2005-06-17 01:18 am (UTC)(link)
I think there is only a tiny group (or even ONE person) who is managing FF.net. That being said, if you notice someone is plagarizing your fic, don't report it until plagarism, because they have to actually investigate it to ban the person. Report it under something else because then they'll remove it almost immediately without investigating.

Too many people report fics because they simply don't like it, or they don't like the author, etc. The same thing happened to my friend ( because she had song lyrics in there, even though they are hers, and that's a no-no now).

Do you know if your friend has it uploaded anywhere else?
ext_49: (GaaraLee - Let's kick ass by zeniconage)

[identity profile] kylara.livejournal.com 2005-06-17 02:24 am (UTC)(link)
That was my interpretation, too. It's the only thing that really makes any sense for some of the stuff they've taken down. One person complains and off it goes. I get the impression that ff.net is seriously understaffed for the amount of fiction archived there -- and for the amount of complaints the probably get.

[identity profile] toki-usagi.livejournal.com 2005-06-17 01:47 am (UTC)(link)
The bastards remove what they fee like removing. There's a bunch of crap on ffn..blatant plagerizations of other authors' work...that doesn't get removed. They have so many users now that they've started playing favorites. However, I do believe that there's a new rule about crossovers, in that they had to be moved or some such nonsense. ffn didn't even give a warning. They just slapped the rule on.

So I think it's time to give them a good sound thrashing. Where's my whip?

[identity profile] kodalai.livejournal.com 2005-06-17 02:13 am (UTC)(link)
They don't check. If they get a complaint, they just remove right away.

[identity profile] purple-alicorn.livejournal.com 2005-06-17 05:38 am (UTC)(link)
*huggles joisbishmyoga* that is so unfair - I kept up with story and loved it.

You can tell it is arbitraryand unfair - if 'The Best Defense' was removed, shouldn't the sequal have been removed too??

Definitelythe quality of fiction on FF.net has decreased - I use it only for a few authors, and get the majority of my fiction elsewhere, it's not worth it try and wade through the badly written Mary-Sue crap that is 99% of the fiction.

I wonder how long before they ban slash stories or threesomes for hurting the poor little people who can't cope when they ignore warnings???

gah! I haven't finished reading that yet, stupid ff.net. I don't think emailing them is going to help, they'll just think it's a bunch of her friends sticking up for her or something. That sucks so bad since staff or whatever just deletes the story whenever they get an abuse email and not check up on it. On one hand, yeah lots of emails and they can't really read all the stories reported, but on the other, they should at least require a link and where in the story is violating the rules.
ext_134830: (Default)

[identity profile] reiichi.livejournal.com 2005-06-17 11:01 am (UTC)(link)
The problem with having to read before deleting is : what if it's in a language no one in the staff speaks ? FFnet in French is full of NC-17 stuff that's marked R. The other day a couple of my friends reported someone who posted some very extreme, tasteless NC-17 fics (I would never think of reporting a fic just because it has some sex in it ; this girl's were *really* shocking). Her account was deleted the day after, and it was a good thing I guess.

One thing they could do would be : recruiting people for the purpose of reading everything that's reported, at least a couple for every language they feature. I'm sure they'd have volunteers for this, and if the users know that reporting a story will just get the staff to read it, and not necessary having it deleted, there will be less reports from people who just want to bother the author.

[identity profile] muffytaj.livejournal.com 2005-06-17 10:50 am (UTC)(link)
Unfortunately, once it's gone, it's gone. ff.net is infamous for not responding to emails.

[identity profile] celinafairy.livejournal.com 2005-06-17 01:50 pm (UTC)(link)
You know what. I got the same mail for one of my fics, and I was so mad I didn't update for weeks after that. But then I thought what the hell, I can't just punish people who want to read it only because there are some idiots there that don't like it. Argh. Something like that makes me furious.

[identity profile] rianax.livejournal.com 2005-06-17 09:03 pm (UTC)(link)
the fucking bastards.

[identity profile] kill-kirin.livejournal.com 2005-06-17 09:15 pm (UTC)(link)
THEY WHAT ?!?
Oh god ... And I thought ffnet had hit rock bottom ...
That mightily sucks . I was so enjoying this crossover .
And I don't buy the "interactive, chat/script, whatever-the-fuck" excuse . If they were so keen on that, half the crap posted on ffnet (if not more) would be deleted (and good riddance too)
The "let's email them in protest" is a good idea though I don't think it will work . Didn't when, along with some friends and others authors, we tried to get a Captain Tsubasa section opened . They only did it when someone required it for one (one damnit) fic in English (up to this time, there were only fics in French, Spanish, Portuguese and Italian, didn't matter there were 'round 50 fics, not in English, not worth opening a section) .
Then again they just might if all the reviewers ganged up on them ... Maybe ...

[identity profile] naturalcyber.livejournal.com 2005-06-17 11:57 pm (UTC)(link)
That's sad. I hadn't finished reading The Best Defense yet. . . anywhere else I can find it?

And to join in on the ranting. . . my account got deleted a while ago... no idea why. They never even sent me an email about it. I just tried to sign in one day and got told the account no longer existed. Maybe it was the poemfics(nevermind that the poems were mine). . . or the really ancient(as in some of my first fics) Vampire Hunter D fics that were probably hard R due to the vampire stuff(lots of blood and folks dropping dead like flies and a little sex but I've read legitimate R rated stuff that was more explicit). I kept/keep all the really bad stuff posted elsewhere. Meh, I probably broke a rule in there somewhere. I only post PG drabbles and first chapters of fics on my new account.

I let other people search FF.net and reccomend stuff to me now. Never go there anymore, too much ick.

I'm really depressed about The Best Defense though. It was really, really good and I want to see how it ended.

Where to find BD

You can also find it here (http://foreverfandom.net/viewstory.php?sid=44) in it's completion.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! *crys*
Why did they do that!!! Your story was one of the best, well thought out crossover for both series!! Why did they remove it!!! I didn't even get to finish it!! *cries even harder*

Your story is one of the best crossover of any kind!! You have taken two very different series and you created a a story that I love. You made the crossover work. It made sense!!! Dangit!!! *very mad right now* I am so sorry for what fanfiction.net did to you and your story.
Where can I go to tell them to get your story back on fanfiction.net?

I hope this get all work out soon.

But where can i read the story because I really want to finish your amazing story.

[identity profile] lady-lefaye.livejournal.com 2005-06-19 08:38 am (UTC)(link)
I swear, with the crap ff.net pulls, I don't even know why I bother to go there anymore. I actually had an account there before, and I had my ENTIRE ACCOUNT deleted without warning and without explanation. And the people there refused to respond to my emails. Now I have a whole mess of fic on my computer and I don't even know where to put it.

I think what ff.net really needs is a good competitor. I think they'd stop treating their users like sh*t if there was someplace out just like them that didn't abuse the people who use the site.

You wouldn't happen to know of a good place to post fic that *isn't* ff.net, would you?

(Anonymous) 2005-06-23 05:15 pm (UTC)(link)
Hey, dunno if you will read this (as in it's posted really late) but I haven't read your fic (am going to.. now actually... right after I finnish this review). I assume it is wonderful. It is so hard to find good crossovers and ff.net is digging itself into a hole. It was my first major fanfiction site and now I hardly ever go there. Keep writing, they're stupid and don't know good writing.

Well you already know my opinion of FFN: they suck rancid donkey cock. JoIsBishMyoga, I have all KINDS of sympathy for you, honey. They did this to two of my fics and the reasons were just as asinine. What's more, the admin email address they have posted on the site DOES NOT WORK so how the fuck are we supposed to communicate with them.... *rawrfoamflail*
Can I kill them, Mistress? Can I pleeeeeaaaase? *clings to leg*
