muahaha, Cloneness sidefic again
Update from work!! OMG, i'm so bad. XD
More puppy cuteness, typed up as I went because i don't have my notes and didn't know what needed writing.
Lena liked cute things. Dachi the puppy was cute. Ergo, Lena liked Dachi.
Sadly, it wasn’t reciprocal.
Lena was on a mission: make Dachi change her mind. So she stalked the puppy all around the place to offer her food and pettings. The puppy only ate Heero’s food, though, and didn’t want to be petted.
The puppy walked, on Heero’s heels all day. Lena did not; Duo carried her half the time, and the rest of the time she could convince Otto to give her a piggyback ride, or get Milly to convince him for her. The puppy was tired at the end of the day. Lena was not, or not enough to slow her down, at any rate.
Dachi usually ended up hiding under Heero’s coat. Heero usually stared at her. She liked Heero more than the puppy, though getting Heero AND the puppy only doubled the appeal. So she usually tackled Heero. He never picked her up right away; getting him to pick her up was more important than getting the puppy to stop running away, seeing as half the appeal of the puppy was the opportunity to chase it. So she whined at Heero and held out her arms until he lifted her up -- Dachi usually escaped then, but she would chase her down later.
At first Heero didn’t know how to carry her; Duo had to explain how to sit her on his hip and let her wind her arms around his neck. And Heero was always stiff. But Lena didn’t mind, because he never got tired carrying her, and never said anything when she played with his hair and the big boys laughed at his pigtails. She liked making pigtails, even if Heero’s hair was short and shaggy and never wanted to lay flat. She tried a braid once; Heero didn’t even say anything, just cut the big knot off. It didn’t even make that big a hole, because his hair was all weird and bushy in the first place. Duo loved her very very much, but he would have screamed if she had tangled his hair that badly. Duo rarely let anyone play with his hair. It wasn’t fair. One day she would be a big girl and have pretty hair like Duo. But Heero’s hair was still funny. Shtoiing, shtoiiing.
People always watched her when she styled Heero’s hair. She liked it. They smiled and looked happier. She liked making people happy. Even Mei and Fei laughed when she styled Heero’s hair, and usually they only laughed at their own jokes.
The puppy let Fei pet her. It was unfair. But she didn’t let Mei, which made it a little better. Dachi was right not to like Mei, though, because Mei was a bully and she was loud and mean and ugly, so it was normal that she scared the puppy away. Lena would never be so mean to the puppy. She would pet it and cuddle it and dress it up in her pretty baby dress with frills. It was too bad that Dachi had short hair, because Lena couldn’t even comb it, but at least she could put a pretty bow on her ear, or her tail maybe.
But when Fei sat under a tree to eat, away from everyone like a big not-funny meanie, Dachi went and sat and watched him, and Fei petted her head sneakily and she didn’t say anything. It wasn’t fair. He never did anything funny, he just sat in his corner and didn’t even tell stories to the puppy or anything. Lena didn’t understand how Dachi could like someone who was so quiet and mean.
Maybe Dachi liked quiet people, that was all, but maybe not. The puppy had sniffed Sylvia once, and Sylvia had jumped and hidden behind Hildie, so now Dachi didn’t go toward Sylvia. Hildie was loud and she laughed and waved her arms and legs and never watched who was in the way, so Dachi didn’t like Hilde either. Once Hildie had kicked Lena by accident, so she understood.
Dachi avoided Quat, because he’d stepped on her paw once by accident. Dachi liked Nash, but Nash was magical; all animals liked him, even those he wanted to eat. Once he’d even managed to get a bird to land on his shoulder. He’d said he was sorry before catching it and giving it to Duo; they’d been very hungry back then.
Milly was a big boy, or almost a big boy; he didn’t care to play with the puppy, and so Dachi and him avoided each other. Cathy had caught Dachi trying to steal food once, so she always chased Dachi off and huffed and grumbled at her. Alex and Mueller always seemed more interested by how fat the puppy was than by her prettiness; Lena suspected them of wanting to eat her. And Otto was always helping Duo and Heero, and scouting and herding the little kids, so he never had time to try to pet the puppy.
Lena didn’t mind that Dachi wanted to be friends with Nash. Nash was nice, even though he almost never spoke; he never told Lena to shut up and he listened to her stories. But she didn’t understand why Dachi wanted to be friends with Fei, and not with Lena. So she chased her again and again, and it was fun.
Maybe the puppy liked to play tag just as much as Lena did. Yes, that was it! Dachi already was her friend. Because she liked the puppy and the puppy liked to play with her. It had to be.
Giggling with glee, Lena squirmed out of Heero’s arms and gave chase again.
