Things Itachi actually told Sasuke, in non-confusing, non-cryptic words, face to face:
¤ I used to arrogantly believe, like Kabuto, that I had obtained everything and everything was possible to me. (ARROGANTLY BELIEVING YOURSELF EPIC AND SUPERIOR BECAUSE YOU HAVE MORE SPECIAL JUTSU (OR AT ALL) IS WRONG SASUKE.)
¤ To deceive myself, I stopped trusting other people's strength. (TRUST OTHER PEOPLE TO BE STRONG FOR YOU/AROUND YOU SASUKE IT DOES NOT MAKE YOU WEAK.)
¤ We were both fucked over by this shinobi thing and we can't forgive ourselves and accept we do have good things going on for us. (MY LIFE SUCKED AND I GO STUCK UNABLE TO MOVE ON)
¤ "You were perfect!" "uh no lil' bro. I really wasn't. really really wasn't." (♥)
¤ I went as far as using (trying to use? since in the end he used the crow on himself) an eye technique on you to control you. (MANIPULATING YOU EMOTIONALLY WAS NOT ENOUGH, I WAS PLANNING TO MINDFUCK YOU "FOR YOUR OWN GOOD", SEE WHAT A HIGH HANDED ASSHOLE I WAS.) I treated you like a child more than anything else. I only saw you as someone to protect. And I didn't trust your strength. (YOU WERE IMPORTANT TO ME BUT I NEVER COUNTED ON YOU TO/ALLOWED YOU TO PROVE YOU'D GROWN AND HELP ME BACK AND BUILD MUTUAL BONDS.)
¤ Perfection doesn't exist. (I *REALLY* WASN'T IT, IDEALIZING ME IS NOT HEALTHY.)
¤ We need to look to each other for example and help each other. (STANDING ALONE ALLOWING NO ONE TO ADVISE OR HELP IS BAD FOR YOU.)

(HINT HINT SASUKE YOUR BROTHER REALLY MISSES HAVING COMRADES HE COULD TRUST AT HIS BACK. team seeeeveeeeeeeeeeeeeeen. teeeam heeeeebiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii.)
Things I loved:

Okay, I loved extrapolating on all the meanings his words could have had, too, but even without the Asuka-vision interpretations it was still full of AWWW ;___;
¤ I admit I also liked that Kabuto's adoptive brother from the orphanage is 1) still alive and 2) still thinking of him & hoping to see him again. Do I care more about Kabuto himself? No, but for his brother's sake I have decided I shall be alright with Kabuto dodging death and having a happy ending. At the very least it does something different from all other big bad boss fights that other characters have been in! Even those who are only bad by circumstances end up dying from a convenient worse villain or as redemption or whatevs. Though when you think of all the horrors Kabuto was likely responsible for re: experiments... hm. :X
¤ Also if Kabuto gets to live then all those SASUKE CAN ONLY FIND REDEMPTION IN DEATH NOTHING ELSE MAKES SENSE arguments can stfu.
¤ Better explanations for Izanagi and Izanami... pff those ~godlike~ Uchihas. :X :X :X If they really could spam reality-fixing jutsu like it sounds in Itachi's explanation, looks like all that arrogance was justified. Dude, the horror potential.
¤ Sasuke had a lot of cute faces!, also half-blind Itachi prrt. I am easy to please.
All in one, less action, and Sasuke didn't get to actually *answer* his brother* or react much apart from pretty staringfaces, but still prrrt.
I hope that when Itachi dezombifies and dies for good Sasuke will cry again. :333 ALSO A HUG YES PLEASE THANK YOU???

I would be perfecly happy if Kabuto made it (back to his brother) in the end. The matter of who's "good" and who's "bad" in this story has lost its meaning for me a long time ago already.

On a more worldbuilding note, it's kind of interesting how souls/the afterlife work in Naruto. There is a god of death, but you can summon him and also rip souls back into the land of the living and shove them into bodies. And since Naruto kind of...had his parents trapped in his seal, did that make them ineligible for zombification? And shit, could the Kyuubi use that kind of soul sucking technique to escape? Or just get rid of Naruto and take over his body for his own demony purposes? Would Naruto's parents remained trapped in the seal/remnents anyway? I wonder how the ninja abilities with souls and death effected the religions especially the ninja vs, civillian. *thinky*

It's interesting there doesn't seem to be a true sense of immrtals in an undying/aging way, but coming back from the dead isn't impossible. (Oh my. Zombiefic could fit into canon. Yeees. Maybe the jutsu done sliiightly wrong and they are now ravenous brain hungry but still retaining memories and unkillable...heh.)
If that's not actually souls but memories wound in their chakra then...What about how the genjutsu's work? How would it be any different than what happens in a genjutsu mindfuck, or does that raise the level of reality in the genjutsu happenings? And if that's just an echo of them in the seal, then they could be raised as well, or possibly all the zombies are the/also echoes of their souls?
I definitely think that the death diety deals with real souls and not fakey fake echoes. Unless maybe he was bargained with...I mean he had to talk to the ninjas at some point to get a summononing contract. Which means he either wants to help or maybe he...keeps...the souls that sign the summoning contract? -_- urp.
It feels like there is a genuine immortality schtick in there. Somewhere.
