GW observations...

I've been watching GW eps as I bike away on my apartment fitness bikethinger, two by two. It's a good motivator, even if half the time I end up cracking up because of some forgotten bout of cheesiness. It's too bad i can't take notes when i'm up there pedaling away to share my thoughts later on, usually by the time I get off the bike I've forgotten what I wanted to say.

Anyway right now I'm up to episode, uh, I forget the number, where Zechs and Heero have their pointless battle in the snow and Relena gets her airplane in the middle.

In this episode and the previous few, I have been getting so many trowa=♥=>heero I can not believe it.

It's not even just admiration either, not even that Trowa nursed his unconscious ass for a month and then promptly followed him around on his trip of atonement just because, idek, Heero can't drive with his hurt arm and needs a chauffeur, he keeps throwing little oneliners à la "what a guy" and "his every action/reaction/decision is perfect" (HAHAHA WHAT XD) and risking himself to draw enemies away from Heero (and then Heero brings him an apple in thanks ahahaha ♥ XD) and being all "of course you can use my mobile suit, my cherished baby, to fight some asshole that I personally think we should just snipe from afar and wash our hands off of".

It's... I don't know. Instant loyalty? Even as Trowa professes to not get any mindset but the mercenary/soldierly one, he's still folding himself in origami shapes to follow Heero on his harebrained atonement schemes and being admirative every time he does something that could be construed as noble. (even if his own training says it's pointless/risky/silly.)

Noin: Capt. Zechs wants to meet you.
Trowa: *aiming gun at her, SUSPICIOUUUS* Meet us? He thinks he can get information from us?
Noin: Don't misunderstand me. Capt. Zechs wants to meet you not as a pilot of OZ, but as a Mobile Suit pilot. He wants to fight with you again.
Trowa: He wants a duel? //__= Heh, What a great man this Zechs is! (you can tell he's thinking: they: couple of teens on their own being hunted, one of them injured. him: high ranked, healthy, adult soldier with tons of resources and subordinates to hunt them down. XD)
Noin: It's up to you to believe me or not.
Heero: *srs face* Where is he?
Trowa: You believe her?
Heero: He's not the kind of person who resorts to such tricks.
Trowa: I see. *immediately* You can use my mobile suit.

But there's also humor between them, which is hard to see because they're both so deadpan all the time and it's pretty low-key, but for example:
Heero: usually a pilot wouldn't let someone else touch his mobile suit. (._. ♥)
Trowa: //.u~ Then you'd better hurry up and learn how to handle it.
(n'aww waving it off with snark like it's so not even something he wants gratitude for.) And the next ep...
Heero: *gets shown to hangar with repaired Wing, goes around prodding through things*
Repairguy: You don't trust me, do you? :/
Trowa: That's not it. He doesn't like somebody else to touch his Mobile Suit.
(it's like their own private joke now! XD)

Later when the investigative group approaches to interrupt:
Noin: Trowa, how are you going to fight?
Trowa: //_> Heero can do something for me now.

(by which he means, 'I lent him my gundam, now I'm grabbing his. Banzai!' XD)

It's mostly in silences and charged looks, but they kinda rag on each other a bit. I like that. XD

Or how Trowa lets Heero work by himself (cause you know heero'd be like 'i can manage on my own!' if he tried to help) but when it gets too much he's like "go to bed" (and heero goes!) and finishes his repairs for him, all thoughtful about fixing the weight problem on his injured arm that Heero was set to grit his teeth and endure. ♥

Seriously half the time he's all *despairing sigh, shakes head* "what are you doing to yourself NOW should I laugh or cry" and the other half he's all "damn but I can't help but admire you like crazy, you magnificent man you."

book_people: Yeah. Heero is shiny! Also poorly thought out and socially inept. But impressive and singlemindedly brave and surprisingly earnest. And attractive.
book_people: And smart as a whip.
book_people: Poor Trowa. Didn't stand a chance.
Askerian: XD
Askerian: also he was half naked in trowa's bed for a month as trowa gave him spongebaths and tried not to fantasize
Askerian: spoiler he failed
book_people: Ahahaha
book_people: Yeeah...
book_people: In Trowa's defense, kid is built like a Greek god.
book_people: And one of the first things he says after he wakes up is this self-depreciating joke that basically translates to "okay, that could have gone better"
book_people: And in conclusion aaaaaah why have I not considered this before? *eyes them*

I seriously hope Heero is suitably grateful at some point! >:X He doesn't take it for granted, at least, he knows he's presuming on Trowa's good will, there's quite a few "sorry/forgive me" and "thank you" and for someone who can get rude and dismissive the way Heero can, it's worth a lot, but still.

Okay, let's leave off the 1x3 now. Another thing that made me snort was this exchange between Zechs and Heero:
Z: Heero Yuy! That's the same name as a leader who once unified the colonies. Is that your real name?
H: *immediately shooting back* Is that also your real name? (BAM.)
Z: u____u~ Forgive me. Names are worthless to people like us.

And i'm like "where do you see an 'us' for srs. They're soldiers with a mission, you're wasting their time with that weirdo request for a "fair rematch" and even *you* know it. Then again Heero does not shoot him and steal his gundam back so I figure he does feel some kinship.

... especially as expressed such... XD

Noin (?): Don't you want to show your appreciation to Capt. Zechs?
H: I'll show my appreciation in my own way. I'll kill Zechs. That's my way of thanking him.

Okay, and another thing I really roll my eyes about is how they try to represent Treize as some kind of... I dunno. Noble visionary. Like when he frees the budgies from their cage = he is so noble! and they come back to his hand = they are so loyal to his greatness! and/or even animals fall to his godlike charisma! when really they're going to DIE if they are released because 1) it's not their natural habitat and 2) even if it was they'd have no clue how to survive in it, and then it makes it seem like they love their captivity (if you want to be figurative which whoa unfortunate implications) or they're just tiny pet birds who don't get what's the difference between cage and notcage they want some birdseed already (if you want to be literal).

Especially since a couple eps before that he was aiming at a target with his hunting riflething and then a pheasant flies off and instead of shooting at the target he shoots the pheasant down, all poised like he wants to make people believe he knew the poor bird was hiding there all along lol. What'd the bird do to him?? Treize is just an asshole to animals okay.

But then I watched episode 16 and ... seriously what the fucking fuck. XD

So there's those two women on a pier with a crawling-stage baby as Treize walks by on the riverbank. And they get to chatting and they get distracted and the baby follows a butterfly to the end of the pier and whoops he's riiiight at the edge! and the mom is like shit my baby is gonna fall in the water from the end of the pier!

And then Treize is somehow right there smiling like a douche putting his arm in her way.

And she doesn't backhand him across the face or elbow him in the guts and dodge the fuck out of him to get at her baby. She just winces and closes her eyes like she cannot bear to watch the horrible clusterfuck of imminent diving.

And then the baby turns around and smiles at his mom (or probably at Treize's magnificent blue-and-gold self) and then he climbs up on his feet. Yay! Treize knew all along that if you didn't help him and make him overly dependent on mom he'd totes learn to walk today!

Then the mom throws herself at her baby and they HUUUUG and she sobs in sheer gratefulness that... a) he's walking omg timmy you are growing up so fast sob sob soon you will be a dashing OZ officer? b) he did not die right under her (closed) eyes ? c) Treize is amazing? or what the fuck ever that scene was supposed to show that couldn't have been cut in half aaa stop dragging on I am embarrassed by proxy. DX

Then again you have to wonder that the end of the pier somehow was recognized as a danger but the sides weren't. :/ Srsly mom, pay more attention before putting your crawly baby down in such a place, were you trying to drown his ass?

book_people: I think treize hires these people to put on a show
book_people: There's no other explanation.
Askerian: *giggles*
book_people: That baby is a professional actor baby

NO NO WAIT I KNOW WHAT TREIZE WAS THINKING. yesssssssssssssssssss baby smash the SHIT out of that butterfly if you fail you are not worthy to serve me anyway AHAHAHA DIE PRETTILY COLORED HAPPY-LOOKING INSECT DIE.

Yup. Dunno about you guys. This theory makes sense to me. As much sense as anything else, anyway.

someone call the SPCA already D:

HAHA oh man, I'm rewatching GW right now too and I TOTALLY SEE ALL THIS.

/has been shipping 313 since the beginning of time man it's so there
/at least as there as 343 is anyway
/313 is about as obvious as 212 also
/TOO MANY PEOPLE TO SHIP WITH HEERO

The baby scene with Treize always made me laugh. I always wondered why that mom was so negligent to let her kid wander off like that anyway YOU ARE NEAR A LAKE DON'T PUT THE BABY DOWN

xDDDD
It's been so long since I watched GW, I had forgotten all the many ways there are to laugh my ass off.

Despite all the evidence we have, I'm not sure I could realistically ship 1x3, probably because that would make a really boring story ;) They are way too quiet in their everyday lives to make a good fanfic :D

The bit with Zecks/Heero dialog? LOL! Seriously, that show had some really awesome dialogs xD

And yeah, Treize is one creepy character, right up here with Dorothy. I don't know what he's like in the original version, but the French was... I wanted to punch him so bad! :3

Three things:

First, kudos on the biking. Doing that myself. Results are generally good so far. How long have you been on it?

Second, "I'll kill Zechs. That's my way of thanking him." Nah. I'm pretty sure that's all just talk. Heero's real way of showing appreciation for someone is threatening to kill them over and over again, building up the fact that they're going to die, and then inexplicably leaving them alive when the time comes. Either that or he really does show appreciation for someone by killing them and by extension must really hate Zechs, Relena, and the other G-boys by refusing to murder them.

Third, two possibilities occur to me. Either Treize has a very Darwinian approach to parenting (e.g. "Is this kid smart enough not to suffer an immediate and terrible death? YES! Guess he got all his smarts from dad, since mom seems too distracted by shiny thing to help him avoid this situation in the first place."). Or he just hates butterflies that much, and he needs to cultivate that hatred in the next generation. After all, in chaos theory what do we say flaps its wings and causes hurricanes? Butterflies. That kind of power either needs to be harnessed for his cause or destroyed before it can truly threaten him.

I have three suggestions for your biking:

1. Do you have Netfliks in France? That would solve your problem right there- neigh unto infinite series to download at your whim.

2. Speaking of the internet, could you connects your television screen to your computer? That way you could use Hulu or youtube or what have you to watch whatever series is available (naruto, for instance).

3. if you have the sort of bike that allows your hands to be free, try video games. Turn based RPGs are remarkably easy to play while exercising....something about level grinding and calorie grinding just go hand in hand, I guess.

I just happen to have rewatched that segment last week and have been happily contemplating thoughts about Trowa and Heero ever since. And looking for fics... *.*

[identity profile] luvsanime02.livejournal.com 2012-04-11 07:03 pm (UTC)(link)
OMG, it's been so long since I've watched the series, but I have not forgotten about Trowa's interest in Heero at all! XD Your observations and comments made me giggle X3

Treize is the most arrogant character on the show, that's for sure, lol :D OMG, I forgot about how totally WTF?! that scene was XD

[identity profile] mika-kun.livejournal.com 2012-04-11 09:42 pm (UTC)(link)
The Zechs and Heero fight in the snow bothered me so much when I was watching. Because what the hell was Zechs doing? Doesn't he have some sort of job he should be doing? Absolutely anything other than beating on injured fugitive teenagers?

[identity profile] mika-kun.livejournal.com 2012-04-11 10:55 pm (UTC)(link)
Ugg yes.

I also don't see why their fight would be all that meaningful at that point in their ...er... relationship. Instead of the battle seaming important (which epic battles between rivals can be if the tension is set up FIRST) it just comes across as Zechs having a tantrum because he can't cope with having a rival.

[identity profile] mika-kun.livejournal.com 2012-04-12 03:16 am (UTC)(link)
This. That early in the series the big rivals should only be fighting when appropriate for the situation.

Having them set up a match themselves in order to "finally see which one of us is best" and/or "express the bond of our weird rival/friendship thing via fighting for shits and giggles without the pressure of our various causes distracting us from the joy of the fight!" only works at/near the end of a season if not the whole series.

You know, when they would reasonably be able to not think about their various causes.

Heero at that point was pretty much at a loss for what to do with his life, so him agreeing to the match sorta makes sense, but Zechs? Not even a little bit.

This is great. I first cut my anime teeth on GW (and then Ranma), so ... man, you are hitting my nostalgia button so hard right now.

I definitely want to start rewatching (do I even still have those VHS tapes anymore?) see all this Trowa and Heero action I (too) didn't pick up the first time around. 1x2, psh- that's EASY. 1x3 is where it's at.

YOU HAVE TO TAKE A NOTEBOOK AND PEN WITH YOU. Then you can scribble in terrible handwriting about what you thought, and afterwards you just have to translate and elaborate!

because this post? was great. ♥

As much as I hate to admit it, getting away from my 3x4 obsessions, I can see pretty much all the Pilots with Heero. I think they all Love him a bit like that at one point or another.

Trowa Follows him round like a loyal Puppy
Quatre gets all emotional that they share the bond that is Zero
Duo.... well we know where that goes.
Im pretty sure Wu Fei would find some way to idolize him if he could stop ranting about how unworthy he is.

[identity profile] windandwater.livejournal.com 2012-04-12 08:59 pm (UTC)(link)
I love your observations. When I did my re-watch of the series (aaahh I can't find my big pad of notes I took anymore D:), I noticed all those things you said. Heero is endlessly shippable, and Trieze is kiiiiiiiiiind of a creep. I mean, seriously? "I'll make a war so horrible that no one will ever fight wars again!"

I don't think so, buddy. It didn't even work in Escaflowne.

Ahh. D: Why did I not finish watching GW, worst decision ever. ;; I need to get to that. ;w; Even if it's full of misplaced symbolism and brooding and really weird unexplained decisions... wait, what.
