You raise a lot of good points with this. It's a subject I've been thinking about in the back of my head (though not nearly as detailed as this), because I've been worried about falling into it. In KH, there's one pair of the Destiny Trio I ship about thirty times more than any of the other angles, and it's gotten to the point that I've had to rip out chunks of chapters and practically write them again from whole cloth to avoid skewing what's supposed to be a universe with a threesome into a twosome with a mutual intense friendship with a third.
